So let me get this straight.

With this DLC compatibility pack coming out with Skarlett, we get Sektor and Cyrax's klassic costumes for free? I'm trying to clear this up in my head. Getting two free klassic costumes sounds to good to be true.

Yes, indeed. I'm quite glad NRS managed to get some free DLC comin' our way after that s--t with the first Klassic Pack.

Yea, its a good move on their part. Hopefully in the future, we can expect klassic Noob and Smoke coming with Kenshi or Rain.

My thoughts exactly. Seems like the perfect freebie to give away. They don't have to put in any more effort, they're already made lol.

Of course. There's just one thing, what other characters could we get free DLC for? Possibly Cyborg Smoke and a Cyber Sub-Zero alt?

So its 4 characters for this summer or just these 4 characters and thats it?... Im kinda lost on the DLC plan thingy.

I'm pretty sure there will be more characters in the future but the four we know of right now are coming this Summer. There will be more characters to come. I think that's safe to say lol.

The impression I've been under is that they only have the four planned out. It seems like they'll put more out if these sell well and they see that it will help further the game's longevity and grow the fanbase. Mind you, this is just speculation based on what has been announced and what feels right to me. Considering the hype Skarlet's received, the badass alterations Kenshi is rumored to be getting, the sudden buzz over the mysterious fourth character, and the inevitably huge sales Rain will draw I cannot imagine NRS not keeping the DLC train chugging along. We may not see 40 DLC characters, but I could see a couple more after the fourth and some costumes, fatalities, etc.

if they handle the dlc the right way and make or try to make every one happy, this game could see updates for up to 2 years, and that would be awesome to get that kinda support for 1 game.

Especially a game that so fantastically brings me back to the golden days of MK, ya know, when it was ridiculously good lol. I don't hate the 3D MK's like some people do, but MKII and UMK3 were by far the best before this one came out. The more love this game gets, the happier I'll be. =)

I mean all they need is Rain and itll be like MKT right? Hopefully DLC will be a few MK4 characters. All the characters after that (besides Kenshi obviously and maybe Frost or a few others) should wait until the next game.

That's debatable since Smoke is in this game, but not the same way he was back then. Just a passing thought lol.

Yeah, I'd like to see some characters like Reiko or Fujin make an appearance as DLC, but if MK10 is in the works (seems ridiculously likely lol) then NRS should definitely make sure they've got some aces left in their sleeves...

I think that MK10 is definitely in works since the most difficult part of a game (the engine) is ready for use but since they always release a game after 2-3 years i don't think they will destroy any anticipation for Reiko, Shinnok or Fujin if they release them now as dlc and also have them in MK10.

Here is my thread on what I think is going to happen for the future of DLC content for MK9.

For those of you too lazy to read, I would surmise that they are releasing 4 characters for the summer, and probably 4 more (hopefully with more costumes, fatalities, and some new levels/content) so there will be no real need to make an MK10. All the characters are here, or will be here, so whats the point of making a sequel when you can just add DLC to everything. Besides, I highly doubt NRS is out to get our money like the CoD franchise. Just keep following Ed Boon's tweets. That just explain everything.

Wrong mate, i follow Boon and i remember he reply in a twitter question about Fujin (If I am not mistaken) that he will not be in this "game", mean he will be in MK10.

Sorry, I just don't see the need to make a new game anytime soon, and by having all these DLC characters come out now, evidence seems to point to the contrary. He also said that Bo'Rai Cho wasn't going to be in the game either....that doesn't mean there is going to be a sequel with him in it. If they did release a new MK, I forsee it being on a next gen console, or at least a few years from now. No need to fix what isn't broken. Besides, if you did take 'this game' into the literal sense, they could make an iphone app adventure game staring Fujin and Bo'Rai Cho....not saying it will happen, but you opened the door. ^ _ ^

I've been intrigued by similar ideas ever since talks of DLC started up, but I just don't see it playing out that way. It's a pretty solid departure from standard operating procedures.
It's got some major upsides:
- They don't necessarily have to worry about securing retail space to get their product out since it's a digital release
- All that DLC could very well end up costing more to buy than buying a copy of MK10
- Builds off an already successful game rather than having to take a chance with a different game
- It could be very easy for them to bring out an Ultimate Mortal Kombat 9 as new retail release with all the new content for $40-60

But there are some pretty solid downsides too:
- Digital releases would need to be followed up by hard copies put out in stores or they'd miss a certain demographic
- They'd have to be really confident that this game will age well and remain supported by the fanbase for since a sequel wouldn't hit shelves anytime soon
- The hype for DLC releases wouldn't hit the casual audience as hard as news of a sequel would
- (Relating to above) the casual players will probably have drifted away from the game by the time they start releasing a lot of DLC and won't be looking for more MK until a sequel is announced

Again, it's got a lot of potential and I'd probably support the idea if NRS really made me feel like they knew what they're doing with it, but it seems a bit out there.
