Roster screen not final

Yall don't think that last spot is the DLC menu? Like it'll be Goro in the spot and when you highlight it, a side menu pops out with the DLC characters just like cyber sub in MK9

I said the same thing about the MK9 and IGAU select screens (that they were unchanged at release) but it's already irrelevant since MKX's select screen has already changed: there were 24 roster spots at E3 and there were 26 in the latest stream. Since Ed Boon said that roster size would be about the same as MK9, I think we'll have 27 fighters+Goro at launch.

What they mean is this isnt everyone filled in. They aren't talking about the size of the select screen. They are just saying it isnt finished and this what you will not see. Meaning when you get the game on april 14th, eight of the slots wont be just blanked out. All the slots will be filled.

That's exactly what I've been saying for a while now. Thanks.

I think the third row is just wishful thinking... But would be epic of NRS if they hit us with that on release day!

My ONLY reason why I think there's a slim SLIM chance is the characters missing. Fujin and reiko seem to have big parts unless they're finished off in the comics. Fujin and Rain shown in story with new costumes. Those three seem like they should be playable characters given the current (emphasis on current, that could all change in the comics before launch day) circumstances.

ALSO... Didn't Boon do a blatantly obvious tweet about Mustard and Ketchup? Someone look that up, it was a pic of yellow and red condiments in front of an arcade system. I know that's the names of those twins that test the game (I think?) but they're known for testing cyrax and sektor. Seems like an odd tweet if those two aren't involved in the game at all?

I'm personally not fussed about Cyrax and Sektor, but I realize they're popular and I can definitely see the argument for their inclusion.

- Currently we only have one playable member of the Lin Kuei faction: Sub-Zero.
- Currently we have no playable cyborgs.

Fujin and Rain? Lord, that would be something. :)

I really want to see Fujin leaked or announced, but I am skeptical about Rain on the basis that we've only seen a 1 second glimpse of him in story mode and he apparently doesn't have a very prominent role in the comics. As for them dying, well, they're both gods (well, Rain is a demi-god) and so I think it would be much more difficult to finally kill them off -- as opposed to 'normal' mortals like Kabal, Stryker, Liu Kang, etc.

Unless NRS pull the rug out from under all of us and reveal new character slots, I think the only remaining hope for an extra character is Goro not being on the main roster at launch; if that's the case, however, I think perhaps Baraka is in with a good chance as a final reveal... but he's in the same boat as the cyborgs (i.e. I'd play him every so often, but I don't really care) and I'd be very disappointed to see him over a much more interesting character like Fujin or Havik (of course, we can't entirely rule either of those out due to the comics/story mode, and the possibility of further unlockables.)

EDIT: Glad to see another Joe Rogan fan also. Great podcasts.

Yeah definitely! Or in all honesty they could be saving some popular characters for the next game to keep things fresh. All in all I really like the roster already but I'm never opposed to more characters and choices

And yeah man JRE is where it's at - favorite podcast hands down!

Edit: how do you give thanks to posts? I can't figure it out lol

Also here's that Boon tweet

Boon is a troll. Thats what the ketchup mustard tweets are about. And you need 100 posts to give thanks.

I disagree, being able to cause a storm that blocks out Kotal's sunlight is a pretty important plot tool, while he doesn't seem to be given any sort of ambition or motivation. He has a very important tool set against Kotal.

raiden/Rain are probably the 2 strongest people to hinder kotal khan.

I agree, however as far as we know, Raiden is not capable of casting storms, he has the power of lightning but not the power to create clouds, Rain does because clouds are just vaporized water. And as Yellow Ledbetter once said, I'm sure Rain's lightning powers are an extention of his water powers, where lightning is a secondary product of the friction between water molecules.

This is just speculation though mixed with the biochemist in me that tries to explain it in a scientific way

Rain is not important because NRS doesn't even try to integrate him to the story by giving him an important role.

when he approached scorpion in the comic... "the thunder clouds" got closer to Scorpion.

I think Raiden has the ability to cause a thunderstorm.

you're trying to apply reason and science, to a magical realm with sorcery lol

Hey, magic is just science we don't understand lol.

It's ok, I thought Raiden wasn't capable of casting clouds, guess I was wrong :P

can someone show the trophies picture of baraka?
not sure i understand what that even means or how much it means conformation wise., but i hope hes in the game, i agree with whoever said theres not enough evil looking characters in the roster

Thanks for the mention! Hahaha

But look, I think Raiden is an unique character.

He is not a god of thunder, he is a THUNDER GOD.

So I think he could cast the storms, because he is lightning itself. It's like he does the inverse process, you know?

Raiden is pure lighting. It's like the Elder Gods gave life to the phenomenon, and it has chosen that form.

His body is just a creation, IMO.

The theory that NRS / Boon means the roster slots are not filled so that's why the roster is not final would make seem like they think we're stupid and let us run around in circles..cause that's obvious, we're not stupid!

Updated Select Screenn.jpg

If there were to be a third row here is how I think it would be fesible. Cut the row length down to 12 from 13. Would need at least 3 secret characters in the game (and there have been many hints to plausible hidden characters, Reiko, Cyrax, Sektor, Fujin, Baraka). Because after the next Kombat Pack I don't think there would be more than 3 more DLC. MK9 had 4, Injustice had 6.

So yeah, a third row might be likely, I don't think they'll hide the kombat pack, secret characters and future DLC characters behind one select button/slot. Especially as injustice they worked it into the overall select screen.

I love the sheer optimism in this thread.

As much as I'd love to be wrong, the inner games industry vet in me does nothing but tell me you're getting your hopes up for nothing. In terms of DLC, they very well may not have a hardcoded amount of tiles for the select screen (which would allow new tiles for DLC), but there's absolutely no way I can bring myself to believe that the on-disc roster is anything other than what we saw in today's build.
