Rain's orb will probably be some kind of water orb that splashes on the enemy and gives Rain control of the person's movements until the water dries off.

I wouldn't. The first definitely had laughable moments (some intended, some not) but it was still a fun kick-ass film. The second was laughable when it wasn't trying to be. It's the best unintentional comedy EvORZ.
I actually wasn't a big Rain fan in the original trilogy, and I didn't really want another ninja, but I gotta say he looks badass in that pic. I'm definitely interested. 
I just want a pack with all the characters/costumes. $5 for each new character, especially with the horrendous online I've experienced, isn't something I support.

True but Ermac is far more effective in this game than he's ever been..one would argue that has something to do w/that. Kinda annoys me considering I've always ran Ermac since umk

Real interested to see if they give him back his super roundhouse kick. I looooved doing that when I use to play as him back in the day. Just rewatching some old gameplay of him. I am getting wet over rain!

In MKA they explored more his water powers.
He missed the orb and the roundhouse kick (thank god silly move)
And he had 4 very cool moves:
Water blast: A waterblast similar to SZ's Ice Beam in MK9 but of water and that pushed back the opponent.
Windy Feet: He impulsed forward with water and kicked the opponent.
Mystic Vapors: A teleport, he sumerged in a water puddle and reappeared behind the opponent.
Lightning: The old lightning from UMK3 and MKT.
I hope he doesnt have the orb and the roundhouse kick in MK9, his orb with psychic powers ermac like makes no sense, it should be just a waterball that pushes back the opponent or maybe that pop ups him like reptile's forceballs, and the roundhouse kick just makes no sense in the actuality, hope it doesnt come back, would look silly in MK9.
I hope he has his MKA powers + the waterball from UMK3 but without the psychic properties.

Why does it annoy you? Rain/Ermac/Mileena were my favorites since they were first released, and I loved when they both were fleshed out and hugely popular after Deception and I'm happy Rain is starting to be taken more seriously and has a huge fanbase. The fact that they are popular means NRS is doing something right with them.
I'm actually hoping the same thing will happen to characters I love that aren't exactly popular like Drahmin, Kai, Hotaru and Meat. My hope is that all characters will get enough attention that the whole "All post UMK3 characters suck" mentality is erased.
In terms of moveset, I do want the roundhouse kick back, just because that's Rain's signature move. If it's part of his X-Ray, that's fine, but he definitely needs it. I'm not a fan of his teleport or Water Blast, since neither were very creative. Windy Feet was a fun move that I wouldn't mind seeing return though. I love how they made the same Cookie Cutter moveset (Teleport + Projective + Charge) on Skarlet seem fresh and unique. Hopefully they do that for Rain as well.

Interesting thought for a Rain X-Ray:
Rain super roundhouses the opponent, it connects and the X-ray begins. When they come back 'round, Rain grabs them by the face and begins pumping water into their mouth with the force of his hydro blast from MKA, and in the x-ray you see the opponent's lungs fill with water. I really want Rain to drown somebody in this game.

I'm starting to really wonder what Rain's fatalities will be like in this game.

Since MK9 has done slightly altered versions of a number of classic fatalities (Jax, Johnny Cage, and Mileena are examples) they could alter his old Lightning fatality. He blasts them with a constant stream of water for a second, knocking them backward and then suddenly calls down a bolt of lightning (I want an intense flash of light and a loud crack of thunder lol) which burns a massive whole in their chest. A rough idea, but it could be pretty sick...
