My brother and I have saved so we can go to Europe in a couple months for a one-week trip. He wants to go to Amsterdam, for obvious reasons. I want to go to Greece, because the weather is gorgeous and because there's a lot of history to check out. Don't have a problem with going to Amsterdam, but I think that anyone can go there to smoke weed and check out the clubs, whereas Greece is like a trip of a lifetime.
Has anyone been to Amsterdam or Greece? What are some good things about both, and what are some bad things?
I'm from Greece too but I won't vote. I'll just give you all the info you may find useful for Greece so you can decide if someone tells you stuff about amsterdam which is better.
a) it's important where you'll choose to go. the weather right now is amazing for you to be on the beach all day long, hence, going to Athens or Thessaloniki which are the two major cities here is bad

Athens is worth visiting for you to see the Akropolis, the museums, but that's all tourist stuff. if you wanna go to the beach, you should try greek islands instead. I'd recommend either Crete (Chania, in particular) or for you guys to find a place in Chalkidiki (most beaches there are famous for having good and clear water, sand and not rocks and the sea is not deep for some distance, it doesn't get deep 'roughly')
b) if you worry about riots and violence and such, don't. due to our politicians being morons and the people here voting for them for so long even worse morons, now the latter complain about the financial stuff. there was violence yeah, but it was originated from specific groups of people who WANTED there to be violence, the rest of the people were there to complain in peace and basically tell the government hey, I already barely live with what I have, you can't take more away from me
c) you should also decide if you want a kind of family-place to be or a place for clubbers and such. f.e. the most famous island here for clubbers is Mykonos while others can provide a calmer vacation for you, depends on your taste really.
d) no idea if you like / have tasted greek food. now , the downside is that in most islands you won't get the food at its best. the tourists basically love all the food here no matter what, most of them anyway. but, the REAL food imo, for EVERY country is best found in the little alleys of small streets, in the home of a classic housewife for each country. you'll enjoy the food but if you were to visit my city Thessaloniki f.e., you'd find the same stuff you tried elsewhere better than there.
e) prices can be *****y but due to the latest financial stuff, people try to make the best of things so they'll lower prices and treat you better than they used to as a tourist. you'll most likely find reasonable prices now both for your accomodation and food/nightlife
f) do a good research for your hotel, just because one is more expensive it doesn't always mean it's better. try and find pics of the hotel you want and see what it provides, you may find a cheaper one than a lux one that provides better things or its location is closer to where you wanna be and have fast access and so on.
that's all that comes to mind atm, if anything else rings a bell I'll edit or repost. if you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll answer you if I know
