Huh. I downloaded this before I read all the fuss on other forums so I thought I'd come to TRMK to see what you guys thought. I personally don't feel like I wasted $10, but maybe my expectations are different.
COLORS - Yeah they seem a bit washed out. Easy fix would be if they let us change the brightness/contrast in a menu, like so many other games offer. Maybe they'll patch that in. It is arcade perfect, just too bright. They need to compensate for the fact that it's being played on HDTVs instead of CRTs. Most noticeable when the screen doesn't get as dark as it should for fatalities, etc, but it also impacts the graphics overall. I'm also noticing some screen tearing issues, especially on MK1 when Raiden flies across the screen.
DIFFICULTY - Uh yeah the games are designed to steal your quarters, so they're arcade accurate in that way. Play any of the MKs in the arcade with the "very easy" dispswitch clicked and you'll have the same results. I'd gone through all 3 before MK9 came out to hype myself and so maybe that's why I'm aware of the series' cheapness. Anyway, today I played through MK1 and MK2 and it's about how I remembered it before. Goro in MK1 gave me a tougher time, but for some reason in MK2 Kintaro and Shao Kahn I had an easy time with and Tsung was cake in each. I'll call it dumb luck, as the rest of the MK2 ladder was schoolin' me HARD.
SOUNDS - I'm hearing the same things you guys are with UMK3's music being too low. MK1's sound effects sometimes sound a bit crackly as well. I wouldn't have noticed the claps in MK1 unless I'd read about it here, though.
ACHIEVEMENTS - Well, I haven't tried to beat UMK3 yet, but I got them for beating MK1 and MK2. Did others let the full credits roll? Someone suggested that earlier, I noticed, and I realized that I let the game go to the "Game Over" screen on it's own. So maybe that's it? But I seem to remember the achievement popping up right away (during the Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn defeat screens) on my Xbox version, so maybe not.
LAG - I didn't really explore this much but I'm sure it's as bad as everyone says. I played MK1 online briefly and actually had a pretty good experience though. I played 2 matches, and on the second one I got the flawless victory trophy and win a match trophy (which is all I was trying for before leaving). Of course MK1 is a slow game, so maybe that's why the lag didn't seem bad.
All in all, it does feel a bit rushed out, yes. But for $3.33 per game, I don't regret the purchase, and I'm glad to hear that they're working on the issues they know about for a patch. Probably the best thing we could do is itemize everything that needs to get fixed like the OP had started doing, and then send it to Neverrealm.
