People are still talking about the first topic at hand which was why people are overly passionate about characters, which we have already addressed. I acknowledged that the reasoning that many people have given makes sense.
Now, we are talking about entitlement. Please stick to the topic everyone. So far, our discussion points to maturity and mental sanity.
But in regards to the first topic, I want to add this final thought:
Personally, I feel that I don't need to get into specifics when it comes to enjoying a product. A lot of you are pointing out that characters make MK, and Critical-Limit made a really good point in regards to if a certain game stops being made, people may stop gaming altogether. I think I'm the kind of person in which once I get into something, I'll never stop liking it, regardless of the changes made.
So for example, this is a hypothetical situation, we have the umbrella of gaming. There are people, who won't play MK because of a certain character. Then let's go up one level. There are people, who won't play fighting games anymore because MK is cancelled as a series. Then there are people who won't game at all anymore because the fighting genre is abolished.
Do you see the pattern I'm trying to make? I think I fit in to the category in which I don't need something as specific as the first situation I mentioned, which is not playing MK because of the omission of a character (which happens to be the topic at hand). I honestly don't know the limit in which I'd get up in arms because I'm an adventurous person. If gaming as a whole gets abolished, so be it, I'll find a new activity.
So I guess the conclusion I'm trying to make here is the tolerance factor of people varies differently. I hope what I've said makes sense.
I agree, and I hold the same position as you. I think there is enough diversity in games, that I can find something I like.
And I'm not close minded to giving new characters a chance in a medium I generally enjoy.
In fact I'm also surprised when a single character made someone like an entire game/story.
But I TRY to put myself in their shoes by basically imagining a scenario with something I love today, if it were gone. I'd probably drop it.
And I have a relation example, While it's not a character, I'm applying GAMEPLAY as the reason I loved a game. Crazy right?
In Super Smash Brothers Melee, the mechanics are so DEEP, and have SO many layers, That it's the closest thing to a sandbox fighting game. The way your opponent can manipulate their trajectory, makes every combo unique. You never know where the combo is going, or how the pressure is going to go down.
I was someone who FELL absolutely in love with these mechanics. When Brawl came out. It was a slow piece of shit, and it had tripping. I know people loved Brawl, I'm not bashing them. I'm bashing the game, I'm fine with people liking brawl. That's their opinion.
However the dropping of those mechanics, were 100% enough for me to drop the series. I still play Melee today, and I would easily fall asleep to Smash4WiiU. It's a camp fest, every other competitive match goes to time-out.
So I just tried to imagine Melee's mechanics, as a character. So I could try to relate to the people who would quit the series over it.
Only you Taj, can find something in your hobbies that would make you quit if it disappeared and try to relate to those people like I tried to.
I have never had a single character make/break a game for me. But because I applied another medium to the idea. I think I can imagine it.
