Kenshi - 8.5

People think his zoning capabilities are godlike...and truth be told they are the best in the game i think but one thing i haven't seen pointed out is that i think he is the least mobile character in the game along side shang tsung. He has no dash or teleport moves. It can be very difficult to get past his zoning fury but if you play careful at a close range you will completely have your way with him. Now he also has some good combo potential and not terrible mix up. Especially with the quick mid attacks and low combo starters. I think he is really good but not perfect. Just how a character should be!
 
Great zoning tools. Tele flurry can be a pain against a character with no anti zone tools and his tele slash kills turtles
Good overall damage
Useful specials
High, medium and low combo starters
Safe strings

His rush down is not the best, the low starter is kinda slow and his overhead starter is quite predictable
EX version of his specials is not that great
Not real anti air tools. You can use his rising karma and even spirit charge, but you need to anticipate your opponent jumping. You cannot use them on reaction.
Strict timing for blade reflect.

Kenshi = 7.8 Solid character but far from being the best.

Smoke 9

He has a great pop up and fast projectile, fast moves, the fastest offensive teleport of the game, an awesome projectile parry and his enhanced version parry almost everything (all except sweeps and low kicks), he's stuck in 9 because of the lack of mixups but other than that he's an awesome character.
 
Smoke's a 8.75.

He has the tools to counter against his opponents attack. Although he doesn't have any low kombos, or good low-high mixups, he's like one of the strongest anti-zoners in the game.
 
Wow, Smoke getting 9s? Online maybe but offline it's a different story. The character is more like mid-tier imo. Sure, he has the fastest teleport in the game and shake is a great counter to projectiles but that's all very gimmicky and good players that know the matchup won't throw random projectiles at Smoke. So then he can't rely on his counter tools anymore, suddenly he has to start offense and can't rely on teleport or shake to do so. So then all he got is smoke bomb and pokes. Let's be real here, the guy has no mixups up close. He's not a rushdown character.

Aris proved that Smoke has pretty good footsies though. And watching Aris play as Smoke is probably the only thing that keeps me from not putting Smoke lower on the tierlist. But to me, he's just an average mid-range character that has smoke bomb to start offense and shake to stop zoning. There's no way he deserves a higher score than Mileena, Kenshi or Nightwolf.

That's why I give him 7/10
 
6/10 mostly what Hades said, and the fact that his smoke bomb is no longer otg, and his teleport is very punishable, and he does not have very good mixups/combos up close.

Quick character with good arsenal of special moves, but, lacks more developed mix up game ..... and his teleport can be predictable and punishable if abused, what, at least online, occurs constantly .....

Mostly this. While Smoke can intentionally whiff on his Teleport to close distance, that's a gimmick that won't work consistently against a well-adjusted player. He's got a number of tricks, but a lot of them can be taken away by a patient player. I've talked about my thoughts on Smoke a number of times before and thus far they haven't been monumentally altered (though Circus does have a couple tricks I'm sure he'll mention here lol). I give him a 7.5, personally.
 
Smoke - 8.5

Smoke has a lot of really nice tools and i think he really does have good mix up, i just never see people use it right. It almost always is the same game plan. Throw the smoke ball on wake up and start some mean combos. I think in the proper hands people could be really deadly with him, i just havent seen it yet.
 
smoke: 8.5. he probably has the best keep away in the game and the best overall specials. projectile pary, fastest offenseive teleport. the only thing he lacks is good combos.
 
Smoke has a decent rush down, but definitely far from being the best, which makes him rely on more tools, like his teleport, shake and smoke bomb. These things become useless against a decent player. No competitive player will throw a random projectile. Also, his teleport is very predictable and extremely punishable, not to mention the smoke bomb doesn't even inflict chip damage and can be avoided by either blocking or dashing.

Of course, when he manages to land a combo or his smoke bomb, he can be deadly. And also he can whiff his teleport to surprise the opponent.
He has good medium mix ups, which works against turtles, but the lacks of low mix ups. He has one of the fastest sweeps in the game, though.
His EX powers are not a great thing. EX bomb can be used to make air combos easier, but the only true difference is that it inflicts chip damage, unlikely the normal version. EX shake can counter almost anything, but it is not good when you compare it to Cyber Sub-Zero and Liu Kang's EX parries. They let you begin a combo.
