Re: Reptiles human concept...

yeah i wouldnt be suprised if they used the design for rain except in purple. then again i notice the silhoutte of rain appears to have a headband of somesort on it

Re: Reptiles human concept...

I did really like that design for Reptile. It feels like they didn't end up using it because then the classic costume for Reptile wouldn't be as unique. They held back on that to hype their future DLC, maybe. Conspiratorial thoughts aside, I'd love to see that design released as an alternate in the future.

I would actually be a bit surpised by that, but in a good way lol. It's a really cool design and I'm really hoping they pull through with Rain's new look.

Re: Reptiles human concept...

That would have been really bad ass. He could also lose that stupid fighting stance for when he's human.

Yeah, that was the first thing I noticed when I saw Reptile rocking his classic costume. He looked really cool, but the movement felt really weird with his human guise. It looks solid when he's more reptilian, but as a human assassin it just looks...off lol.

Re: Reptiles human concept...

haters gonna hate.

i love this reptile. best reptile (non human) form ever. and if you want him human just go klassic

Klassic isn't that great, though. It looks kinda silly (for him, at least). But I do prefer it to his primary. Ugh... What a horrid design. His alt is no better, either.

Re: Reptiles human concept...

I think the whole reptile look for Reptile stems from not only trying to differentiate him from the other palette-swapped ninjas, but also they are aiming to make his look correspond to him being the archetype of the "unhappy underling" and the punching bag of the MKverse. Many fans prefer his klassic look because the design for his newer looks are poor, but it also fits Reptile's well-known status as the very first secret fighter in Mortal Kombat. I can empathize with this feeling; it didn't feel right seeing Reptile out in the open with his true reptilian features exposed, and him being the first character you fight in the Story Mode. But they were (unsuccessfully) trying to tell a story with Reptile's reptilian look from Mortal Kombat 4 on, while also trying to keep his hidden persona intact by giving him more of a humanoid look, which is something I personally can't get mad at.

Re: Reptiles human concept...

opinions are like butts, everyone has one and they all stink.

sums up this thread pretty well imo.

i enjoy reptiles primary and secondary constumes. glad to see him more then a human that spits acid

Re: Reptiles human concept...

my opinion on reptile is basically he is cold and calculating, not a flailing limb aggressor. He moves with precision and strikes hard, rather that quick and 'slithery"

Re: Reptiles human concept...

I know nobody is gonna agree with me on this, but I think they should have made reptile have more of a retilian snout in this game. Because when he removes his mask he looks like a green wrinkly old grampa with no teeth.

I like lizard reptile, but they just can never seem to get him right. They were close in this game, but
because of the stupid battle damage, you end up seeing his goofy face all the time.

Re: Reptiles human concept...

I was hoping we'd see the Cyber-Reptile, but this is even better.

All great points.

Re: Reptiles human concept...

Yea all points on character presentation are well taken. Just saying with characters having retros, multiple iterations etc. apparently being released w/every dlc character, a tasteful concept costume won't hurt anyone...possible exception being anyone who actually thinks all opinions "stink".

In which case the remark doesn't bother me as much as the actual mindset that births it...breeding ground for ignorance. No flame intended, it's just a silly thing to believe.

Re: Reptiles human concept...

That costume is really cool, though I love Reptile's main but I hate his alt and his classic, but this costume would be cool just to switch it with his main.

Cyber Smoke Idea

Idea for gameplay style:

Cyrax is a faster rushdown/mixup character, while human Sub-Zero is a slower zoning character. Cyber Sub-Zero plays like a Cyrax (faster & rushdown/mixup), but with Sub-Zero specials.

NRS should utilize the same principle with Sektor and Cyber Smoke, but in reverse.

Sektor is a slower zoning character, while human Smoke is a faster rushdown/mixup character. Cyber Smoke should play like a Sektor (slower & zoning), but with Smoke specials.

Idea for a movelist:

Ditch Human Smoke's Smoke Towards, Smoke Away, Smoke Bomb, Teleport, and Air Throw.

Teleport Uppercut
Straight Frag
Up Frag (above)
Up Frag (behind)
Up Frag (in front)
Invisibility
Shake

If he used some of Sektor's moves like Cyber Sub-Zero does with Cyrax, that would mark the return of Cyber Smoke's teleport punch. ^_^

The frags would have the same properties as human Smoke's Smoke Bombs, but they would travel similar to Sektor's missiles. They'd make a noise like this when launched. And a noise like this when they hit. That would be so awesome. He would feel like a walking artillery tank.

The frags would make Smoke a true zoner. The shake would still keep Smoke as a counter-zoner. Which would mark the first true zoning and counter-zoning character in MK9. Slow Cyber Smoke down a little and you have a pretty balanced character that pays homage to the chracters he is based off of, but still has an original gameplay style.

Edit: additional ideas from Sky Valley

Unlike the other cyborgs who are more high-tech and swift, Cyborg Smoke is a primitive model. He is heavier due to more contents and a denser material, explaining his slower gameplay style. He runs on fuel, giving off endless smog and pollution from his infernal core, explaining the smoke effects.

What does everyone think?

Yeah i agree with the above post, a spear is a must to be truly cyber smoke, they should have given human smoke a spear also just like in his hidden fight.

Re: Cyber Smoke Idea

Gotta have harpoon and tele-uppercut to truly be cyber smoke. spam city!
Cool moveset, you forgot the spear though.

Appreciate the comment, Fox17!

You guys really think Cyber Smoke should have the harpoon in MK9?

Cyber Smoke only had the harpoon because human Smoke had it in MKII. And human Smoke only had it in MKII because he was a palette swap of Scorpion. I feel this game should mark a return to originality in MK. Not pay homage to palette swaps. Human Smoke doesn't have Scorpion's spear in MK9. Why should his cyber form have it?
