No MK 10 for PS3/360

Everyone has different opinions, so that means its okay for me to think your ideas are the ass end of horrible. With a spoonful of terrible glued on.

I'm glad they're taking this route, and I completely agree with Boon. I doubt the next-gen tech would greatly change the experience in the way he's implying it would, but I really don't see a point in releasing another game using the same engine.

In the case of the 3D MK trio, I looked forward to a new release every year or two, but only because I felt each game was lacking something that needed to be addressed. With MK9, it's completely different; they've given me a badass fighting engine, every character I could ever pretend to give a shit about and every move I've ever wanted to see recreated in 3D. Aside from some extraneous stuff like costumes and arenas, I can't think of anything I really want or need to be added to it.

I believe Boon and his team will do a good job creating the next game and I hope he includes Juliet Starling and Rayne as guest characters and make them be wonderful gameplay wise especially with nasty fatalities that split victims vertically in half.

I'm gonna be waiting for a LONG TIME till I found out what happens next in the story. SCREW NRS FOR THAT CLIFF HANGER!

I think if NRS will have one MK game in the current consoles, he shouldn't have a cliff hanger so we won't be waiting this much for MK10. Instead, most people can think that is it. But for me, I didn't mind the cliff hanger at all because it shows that it isn't the end of MK. I do like guessing what will happen next anyways. ;-)

By the time MK10 and the next Gen consoles are released I'll have a job so money isn't a problem and I'm making the Mileena gameplay thread Goddammit, F*** everyone else.

I want a more self-contained story myself for MK10, but I don't see how the cliffhanger was all that bad, lol

I mean, pretty much all of us here know that Shinnok will almost certainly be the main villain in MK10

It's safe to assume that we already know what the conflict of the story will be like, we obviously just don't know how NRS'll resolve it and won't know that until the game releases or the story leaks out

"If you introduce another edition of your game on the same console, you cannot provide a radically different experience," Boon said.

"I'm sure, if we were to do a new Mortal Kombat game on next generation systems, I think we would be able to provide dramatically different experiences."

Bringing the series to a new console isn't going to magically change the game's experience. It's up to the development team to come up with new concepts for designing their game, the available technology determines the limits that can be pushed. Ed Boon is on record for boasting about how MK keeps changing (even if it's not always for better), yet their games appeared on multiple times on the same consoles.

Boon said that the biggest enemy to the next Mortal Kombat game is NetherRealm resting on its laurels.

"I'm a big fan of fighting games, but some of them I've seen are just a re-skin of the same game with much prettier graphics and new characters," he said.

"Effectively it just delivers the same experience, and over the course of time these games sell less and less and less and less. I think you need to offer something that hasn't been done before. Like with Injustice, no one has done what we're doing with the game's backgrounds, and I think that's a big part of why it will appeal to fans."

The irony in that statement is MK9 is the most successful game in a long time...a game that more or less reverted to something close to the classic 2D games. It's a great game, but not groundbreaking by any means.

Well, they obviously need several years to make next game better then MK9 by many reasons, and the main of them is the roster. While i personally liked when NRS get the balls to kill some major characters, i fear that they will return too many of them in MK10 with some stupid explanations. On the other side, most post UMK3 characters are not that good and need alot of development to become something that worth to replace dead MK9 guys.
Plus, previous MK games proved that change is not always a good thing, so they need to be carefull with innovations.

Hopefully it comes out on the Wii U. They could put add new features with the touch screen.

I was saying this when I heard about it not coming out for Current Gen consoles. Like, aiming Scorpion's spear or something would be cool.

Anyway, with the ending they had in MK9, I think it would take them a while to think up the next chapter in the story in an effective way. It's great to see them take their time and not rush into a new MK game every other year like they used to do. Gives them more time to add new features and characters.

Also, who knows, maybe we'll see some cool stuff in Injustice that will be featured in the next MK game (like the background interaction)

Hmmm. Very interesting indeed. I'm very glad that NRS is taking their time on the game so it can be released in between 2014-2016 on the new generation consoles (Playstation 4; X-Box 720 or whatever they gonna be called). That should give them a hell lot more time to work on a good storyline, features, character artwork on the majority of the returning kombatants, and a chance to do a Kreate-a-Fighter since Earthrealm and Outworld are in major peril, Raiden and the remaining kombatants are gonna need some serious help to take down Shinnok and his Netherrealm demonic army.

I agree with this!

MK Deception and MKA say hello. And partially even MK 2 and 3...and 4 being just MK 3 with added weapon attacks , 3d backgrounds but more or less similar gameplay as in MK3

I'm not liking the fact that he's talking about adding new experiences. That almost always results in a feature that's just a gimmick. Fighting games aren't all about the technology behind the game, but the balance and fluidity of the system.

I doubt that the game will actually change radically from what we've seen before, a lot of game devs say that the next game will "be different" from the previous games of the series yet I've rarely actually seen the core gameplay of the game change much aside from a few tweaks and additions

MK9 brought new life to the series, it wouldn't be very smart of NRS to throw out the formula that helped them to succeed so quickly

I partially disagree with the gimmick part, anyway

A new feature only becomes a gimmick if it feels tacked on or unnecessary

A new idea or concept introduced because of the fact that it is new for the series

If thought and care is put into the feature, however, and it's implemented in a way that corresponds with the game's design philosophy and adds to the overall experience that you get from the game, then that wouldn't be a gimmick
