"It's with a very heavy heart that I must report some bad news. I'm sure you're all aware that Nintendo is tightening it's policies around uses of it's IP by 3rd parties. We have just been informed by their legal department that we do not have permission to stream SSBM. We will, of course, honor both the letter and the intent of their request. All broadcasts of SSBM, both official and unofficial, will be forbidden at Evo 2013. Though I understand everyone is disappointed, please do not setup bootleg SSBM streams on your phones. Doing so would put the entire tournament in jeopardy. Anyone at Evo who broadcasts SSBM will be immediately disqualified from the tournament, their passes will be revoked, and you will be asked to leave the premises. You are, of course, free to take whatever pictures or videos you like for your own personal enjoyment at the event.

Since it cannot be broadcast, we will be moving the SSBM finals to Saturday immediately following the Semi Finals (est: 2:00 PM).

You guys worked very hard to get to Evo, and you should be proud of what you've done for your community and the millions of victims of Breast Cancer around the world. Even though there will be no stream, we think Smash is going to be one of the highlights of Evo this year, and we're proud to have you guys be a part of it! "

this reminds me of the lets plays on youtube nintendo tried to stop but they changed there minds in the end about a week or 2 ago.

there just ruining it for themselves

I don't understand why Nintendo is being so petty. The game is from a previous generation console and it's unlikely that Nintendo is going to distribute new copies anytime soon. If anything, tournament streams will actually bring more interest to the series. About half the games I bought came from after watching some streaming videos of the game in action. If Capcom, whose reputation has been shaky in recent years, can recognize the free publicity they can get from video game footage, why can't Nintendo?

now that i think of it after reading the policy for comic cons it states that people who attend wave all rights to not complain if they are featured in a video without consent so i wonder does evo have a similar policy?

and should that also exclude companies like nintendo?

It's been streamed in the past @ EVO.

Nintendo. Selling my Wii, and not buying a Wii-U. I'm a huge fan of Metroid series. Not anymore I'm not.

i think its more about 2 consoles they put out were duds.

lets be realistic here and all fanboyism and console wars aside when you have a company as greedy as electronic arts who are notorious for milking games come out and say wiiu is garbage we wont make anything for it tells people its game over..

also if you go and think to the first wii it wasnt a success in regards to games. it only sold well because it was the cheapest on the market

i admit im guilty for buying one but i sold it 1 month later

Yeah it sucks that SSBM isn't there now. What equally sucks is that there may not be any penalty for this against Nintendo
 
from what i understand the new ssb isnt a fighter but more of a party game so if true why even be at evo when the tournament itself is only for fighters?
 
The new Smash is more tailored as a fighter than Brawl was. They took out tripping and made conscious competitive decisions like changing the speed of the game and reworking Bowser completely so he is more viable
 
They even made a public announcement that they were aiming for somewhere inbetween brawl/melee.

They even once acknowledged melee as their "for the hardcore gamers"

and brawl for the "casual" gamers.


So they know wtf is happening.

apparently Sakurai claims he didn't know it was gonna be at EVO until 1 month ago. considering how big EVO is I call BS.

3 day warning is also BS.


Just so you know I have 4 Wii's 6 Gamecubes. 10 copies of melee. with soem project M.

my roomate has 2 wii's and a Wii U and a cube.

we combined have 14 TV's.

Never again. I'm SOOOOOO pissed.

Get your head out of your ass nintendo and listen to the fans and farking THINK. Do you know why 3rd parties don't want to make games for Wii-U? because BOTH of your competitors are leveling up on their platforms capabilities while you still stumble in the back. you prevent third parties from fully utilizing PS4/XboxOne if they want to have it on all 3 consoles.

They can't grasp that it's possible to make a game both casual/hardcore. Melee is a perfect example, I mean how many people here even knew melee had a tournament scene, and played melee back in the day anyways.

omfg, and they miss out on a chance to get good publicity because of the breast cancer research being promoted by smash. Making it back to EVO cuz it's a GOOD GAME 12 YEARS AFTER THE FACT.
