Okay, so, look.
I grew up playing MK in the arcades as a kid. Since it first came out, not much has changed. New characters (good and bad) and the graphics are heaps better. But the best, and, also the worst, is the near on absolute psychotic rage that this game can bring about.
Back in the 90's, when I was 'round 10 playing MK in the arcades. I seriously used to love beating people, not so much for the pride in victory, but just so I could see them flip out. Then I got Sega Mastersystem and brought Mortal Kombat home, and I no shit, lost count of the amount of physical fights my brothers and I had because of this game. Not to mention broken controllers & shit. And I kid you not, 20 years hence, and Mortal Kombat hasn't changed in that regard. Pretty much all that's changed is graphics and characters. It still has this innate ability to bring out peoples inner cro magnon. Seriously.
Was just talking to one of my room house mates, and he agree's. All it take's is one too many losses in Mortal Kombat and people turn into the Hulk. It's great.
For instance; mid-game comments like "I'm going to f**in' stomp Sonya's ovaries mate!" to "Okay, then, di**-head, put $50 on it. Best out of 3, 3 round fights, no time limit!", "Dude, of course you're gonna go Johnny f**kin' Cage. He's Mortal Kombats gay icon. YAHTZEE!".
I've seen one of my mates, who's been to jail, sitting next to my other mate who's an MMA fighter, both of whom are leaning forward, transfixed, with a look of grim intent and 110% focus on beating each other in Mortal Kombat, while simultaneously, and constantly talking shit to each other the whole time.
I don't see that kinda shit with Street Fighter.
Mortal Kombat for the win!
