Mortal Fantasy Football Kombat 2013

I don't really pay much attention to the start em/sit em articles. I'll give them a peek, but I usually just go with my guts and what I know of the team. Perfect example, this week; they said to bench both the Panthers and Rams defense and start Tennessee (start of the week) and the Colts D. The Rams scored almost 30 pts (to be fair that was probably a fluke) and the Panthers had 19 points while Tennessee and Indianapolis barely reached 5 points combined.

Also, even though I won, Yung's team is playing a lot better now; he's probably gonna start winning some games; that Philly offense is looking real stronk right now. I'm scared for next week though; KC's defense looking real scary.

Yep, the article said to bench Matthews. He did pretty well this week, so, yeah, the articles can be very misleading. Football can be tough to predict sometimes. Always better to go with what you THINK is the best choice....which I failed in my work one, starting Locker and having the Titans as my D because I assumed they would smoke the Jags. Fail.

They are interesting to read, just to see what they say and have a feeling of joy when you see your guys in the start 'em side of things, but, never go by it.

Even the points projections can be pretty screwy. Marques Colston was projected to be shut out this week, although to be fair, the basis for such a projection was primarily based on injury. As I mentioned before, he missed last week's game, and was listed as Questionable on this week's injury report. He gets 16+ points on the bench. And speaking of blanked players, SOMEBODY in this league left an injured player on his roster...especially one whose team played on Thursday Night after he got injured 4 days prior...

And by the way, Yung...here's a textbook reason of why you should never load your roster with players on the same team...Week 12 is Philly's Bye week. Last time I checked, NONE of us fantasy players get a bye week...

Np Yung :)

I will say this, I do use the Genius Community thing though when I can't decide between a couple of players. It's probably not the most efficient method but it does feel better when multiple people agree with who you thought was the better start for the week lol.

I don't even pay attention to projections at all anymore; I couldn't take them seriously after seeing players having actual negative points projected, especially defenses, even when it's not a bad matchup.

I had that same problem last week TT and I got extremely lucky; wouldn't want to put myself in that position again; funny because it happened a week after you mentioned that to me.

I'm so proud of Nick Foles though :-D.
So glad I didn't drop.

Now I got a Titan End problem. Next week is Jason Witten's bye week and the only Titan end I have is Brent Celek who has not done jack shit this year :(. Should I get another one and drop Brent or grown man the situation. *sigh*

Watch him get benched when Mike Vick comes back

I was in a similar situation but my backup TE sucked too so I don't know what to say. Free agent pool for TEs isn't the greatest either lol. Now that I think about it, Davis got a concussion, so I might end up being in the same position....

Is it just me, or are ALL of this week's matchups rematches from Week 1? I notice that's the case with 3 of them (Jade/Coach Ripka, mkray/Yung, Sek's/myself)...

It's not just you. In fact, all matchups from now to the end of our regular season are rematches from weeks 1-5 respectively. It's our division matchups (plus the one non-division matchup I had to throw in there because we have odd numbered divisions and can't have everyone playing a division game at the same time)

Jeez why do TE's have to be so... eh.

Unless you've got Rob Gronkowski or Jimmy Graham, tight end just isn't a big-play position. Granted, it is more than it used to be, but still a lot of tight ends don't do much.

My TE situation had some strange developments. Week 1, I benched Jermichael Finley (at the time my #1 TE) due to matchups, and plugged in Jermaine Gresham. That one backfired on me, but it had the silver lining in bumping me up in the waiver order, and I got Julius Thomas (who, as I recall, got picked up VERY quickly in almost every league after his season opening performance). I kept Finley on my bench, thinking he was going to be there for me on the Broncos' bye week, right? Except he gets hurt so bad that he's spending nights in the hospital. Rumors of the possibility of IR (which later became fact) led me to dump him in favor of the exact same TE I originally dumped to get Julius Thomas in the first place, Jermaine Gresham.

Squirrel you stinker.

With all due respect to squirrelpion's performance against Camu-San (by the way, this exact same result happened back in Week 1), Jade had a stronger case for the lead story. She overcame a 0-3 start and has now taken over the lead in the Outworld Division.

I did think of that, but Jade was just the lead story fairly recently and she does partially owe her first-place status to Camu-san's loss, which was also a much more shocking result than Jade's victory over RIP at this point. That was my thought process. I definitely do not mean to take anything away from the impressive run Jade is currently on.

i lost to last place then won over the leader of our division, that is a pretty massive turn around but, jade is my master, she needs the glory. does this please you, master mistress jade? (zips up gimp mask mouth hole)

You know, Jade and I are facing each other in a week in which BOTH of us have 4-game winning streaks coming in. To the victor go the spoils...

And am I the only one who thinks RIP jinxed himself with his whole Coach Ripka persona?

I've had one story, that is good enough for me, lol.

I have to say, I actually had time to hop on the computer before work and I was legit surprised when I saw squirrel had won. bravo, honestly did not see that one coming....

Oh yeah, to RIP, don't feel bad about your situation. I wont lie, I was pretty rattled at my team in the beginning of the season and I was literally dying for at least one win. I don't know what happened along the way, I guess my guys just decided to start playing, lol, but, I hope it doesn't take away the fun of things. I learned my lesson, I was disappointed in my team and didn't really show all smiles in this thread, but, I thought, well, kinda worthless to be mad at a fantasy team and then be a jerk, so, I just figured I would have a good time, no matter what happens. Didn't expect the good streak at all. This is why I always just assume my team will lose, because getting even one win feels great, lol.

Like I said before, football can be so unpredictable....In my work league, I thought I had a solid team this week....and only 1 guy got double digit points (Brees). That league, you can change your team each week and everyone can pick the same guys (it's a gridiron league). Since week 2, I had been in first place. I am in second now, co-worker is about 30 points ahead of me. Locker got out and the rest of my team that wasn't named Drew Brees did absolutely nothing, it was sickening, lol, plus, I had the Titans as my D, and we all know how that ended.....

@Jade: Gridiron League? Isn't that something like a Gridiron Challenge? I remember hearing something about that through this NFL comedy podcast I listen to called Bang Radio Hour. Never tried it myself, though. Also Jade, if you think an underperforming roster pisses you off, that's nothing compared to your players getting IR'ed due to cheap shots...like what happened to me with Randall Cobb, and I'm STILL pissed off over that. I believe I was playing Camu-San that week. I'm sure fantasy owners who drafted Brady in 2008 still hate Bernard Pollard to this day.

Since I'm feeling a LOT better about my team this year than I did last year, I think I'm gonna try doing a Suicide League next year....just to see how long I last. I remember a family friend telling me about one of those, and most players don't even make it past Week 5. I do remember doing this playoff league thing back during the 2009 season. I don't remember how my roster was assembled, but I do remember that the big catch was that you could not change your roster AT ALL after the AFC/NFC Championship round, meaning you basically had to pick your roster in that round based solely on your Super Bowl picks. I completely forgot to read the fine print during that round, so needless to say, I was effed in the Super Bowl...

yep, it's a gridiron challenge. we just call it our gridiron league. I finished 3rd last year. the only thing I don't like about it is that everyone can pick the same player, and that is kinda cheap to me....these guys kept looking at my team each week and started to pick the same players that I rotated through. I would rather have it like our league, where your guys are your guys, no one else's. it is still fun, but, yeah, when people start to copy you....ehhhh, kinda takes the fun out of it, I find.

cheap shot are garbage, I hate that stuff, and agreed when they get your guys on IR, especially when it's good players.

I am a little on the fence about percy this weekend. I want to start him because part of me thinks he will have an amazing return game, but, the other part of me fears an injury or just hardly any play because they want to be careful with him.

one of my leagues, I have Romo on bye this weekend and obviously Rodgers is out so I went QB hunting and no one had picked up Foles....I was surprised...I mean, sure, last game, he didn't blow anyone out like his first game, but, he still did well. honestly didn't think he'd be available. now that he is on my team, he will do nothing, lol. usually how it works.

This isn't the only league you have both Romo and Rodgers in? Interesting. You're playing Keenum in our league this week right?
