Its more to a cross over than having certain similarities. You have to think about the storyline, How exactly would they cross over? A new realm? Did they appear out of nowhere?... Characters interacting with each other.. What would Raiden say to Zues? or vise versa.

Not just the blood and gore the reason I think it would work is because they're both more or less myth based games. The greek gods have more in commin with the elder gods then anything else. Lol many games we have now are myth/fantasy based games, still does not mean they will mesh together or fit well. Skyrim is myth/fantasy based, so is Mass Effect, does that mean they will fit well together? Similarly, GOW and MK are set in different timelines and different settings. As iVital said, its not just the small number of similarities, there needs to be a robust way to bring the two worlds together or else the game will simply fall apart. Considering the vast differences I think it is near impossible a game such as this would be developed.
The only thing that the greek gods have in common to the Elder Gods are the fact that they both are higher beings, overseeing the activities of mortals and thats it. Plus so far we have not known or seen any individual Elder God other than Shinnok. Perhaps a different game can be developed for War of the Gods involving greek gods and titans, just keep MK characters out of it.
I too can go on and on about it, since 99 % of my posts are through phone.

Its mainly set in the present time zone, just that it has got many realms whose people are following different lifestyles since they are more adept at using magic and depend on technology less etc, thus sometimes giving a false impression that they are set in the past.

I agree they should just be straight forward with us, im sure they are working on MK10 i wouldnt doubt it why wouldnt they want to Capitalize on a game that sold Warner Bros and NRS 3 Million Copies and was ranked as the #1 fighting game of 2011? Thats how it always is with big companies like WB or Sony if something sells big, they want to try to make it bigger.

Just because GOW and MK has blood and gore, doesn't mean that they will fit. It would appeal to perhaps casual MK players, who will probably abandon the game once they had enough of 'blood and gore' but for people who have been fans right from the 1st game and love the series for its story and original characters, it would be nothing but a slap on their faces.
