MK movie update/MK Legacy discussion

Surely, but I still stand by my point that a less-violent Mortal Kombat is the exception, not the rule. And we've had two films that go the safe route. I want at least one that attempts to do both: Tell a good story, and give me that good Rikki-Oh feeling of excessive, over the top violence. Like the game series I so love.

My point is all they did was polish a turd. No matter how many times you polish it.
Its still a peice of crap.

It's not saying much when you tell me that a crappy game was atleast less crappy than this other game.

The ones before it had gore and they were shit as well.

Thats really a matter of opinion

No need for the language either, nor do i care for an in depth analysis when you get home why those games suck. Im not a massive fan either but they were playable.

No it's not opinion. It was a laughing stock of all fighters. Brawl was probably more competitive.

I never said you can't like the game.

But you can't deny it's unpleasant crap gameplay in a competitive sense.

I dislike street fighter but you don't see me bashing that game and that's because I know it's not a crap game.

Re: MK movie update is apparently on the horizon

So I guess he's saying it is just a rumor? Can't really tell with that sarcasm cause tnmt are aliens in the new movie lol the idea of kang having to choose sides is cool but being a grocery worker, I gotta say sounds pretty awful.

he's more than likely saying it's a BS rumor since he's poking fun at rumors of the apocalypse happening in 2012 but regarding Bay's cancelled(for now) TMNT film, the people involved besides seem to want to imply that it's more than likely that the ooze from the TCRI canisters that mutate the turtles is alien like in the original comics....but that could just be damage control on Bay's part.

Anyway, I'm not sure he'd be making fun of it if it wasn't BS.

Re: MK movie update is apparently on the horizon

This concerns me about the movie already!!! Employee of a supermarket? I'd rather have a female student nurse have this kind of role. Then, I'd relate to it more.

It could also be Sub-Zero working as a butcher in the frozen meat section.
No one said that Liu Kang had to be the star this time around.

I could just see it now..... *Kevin Tanchoreon goes into Michael Bay turn everything into shit mode*

Bi-Han is a happy go lucky butcher at the supermarket, when one day his boss asks him to stay late to clean the frozen meat locker.
While cleaning up the meat locker, someone locks the door from the outside.
His arch nemesis, Hanzo Hasashi, the Deli meat carver, finally has his revenge on Bi-Han and has locked the door from the other side.
Bi-Han dies in the freezer, at the hands of Hanzo Hasashi (Ironic, huh?).
Upon the news of his brother's death, Kuai-Liang, a freezer repairman, vows his revenge on the killer of his brother.
Little does he know that he can form ice cubes from his hands. ;-)

I don't understand. What's the argument you're making? I'm not arguing the quality/playability of Mortal Kombat 1-8. I'm saying that an accurate adaptation of Mortal Kombat should be gory. I'm sorry if that got confused.

Re: MK movie update is apparently on the horizon

MK9 story mode was fine but it wasn't reminiscent of Silent Hill, Resident Evil, SAW or any other horror film that's out there now.
When I played MK9's Story Mode, I didn't sit through it going "Hmmm ... This reminds me of that last horror film that I saw."
With some of these ideas that have been said, it seems like people want Kevin Tanchoreon to rip the pages off the horror film genre, and apply it to Mortal Kombat.
I've said it before and I'll say it again;
The Mortal Kombat film should have gore, but it should have a Lord Of The Rings feel to it, in the sense that it's a real-world setting with fantasy elements to it.

I can agree with that more or less, yeah. I didn't mean to side with the people who would compare it to the horror genre necessarily. I think folks go that route for the same reason you reached to Lord of the Rings, which is that there aren't many contemporary films with similar elements to Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat is more or less a mashing of Rikki-Oh, The Golden Child, Big Trouble In Little China, Blood Sport and Enter The Dragon (none of which are horror films), which are all from the 70s and 80s, mostly made before the audience for the games was even born. By the way, if you haven't seen Rikki-Oh, it's the closest thing to MK by way of graphic violence in a martial arts film, and even goes beyond the violence in the games. Still manages to be a pretty decent flick despite it's excess.

I'm guessing people have automatically disregarded that KT has debunked this on twitter with sarcasm

I think it's Liu Kang working in a Chinese supermarket such as "Ranch 99". He'd probably burn up ducks and hang them for sale.

You were trying to depict that lack of gore made mkvsdc fail when it wasn't which doesn't help your argument

I think it should also have gore. I was just showing your error in using that game as an example of why we need gore.

I'm guessing that some people just don't understand the meaning of comedy or sarcasm.
Come on.
Did you really take any of what I said seriously?

Looks like I'm going to have to put a ;) or :) or  or  at the end of each of my posts for people to realize that it's a joke.
*Sigh*

Yay.
SOMEBODY gets it, that I was joking around.

Love the idea of Liu Kang selling ducks in a Chinese supermarket.
Reminded me of this.

Re: MK movie update is apparently on the horizon

Honestly, I think anyone can agree if you take the movie 'the Raid:Redemption' with its brutal coreography and level of gore and just incorporate the mortal kombat fantasy setting, you'll have a winner. By fanatsy setting, I'm kinda refering to how the first movie did things. If it got anything right, it was showing mostly real world characters and settings and then introducing these other characters from outworld who are something more. Make it feel strange and shocking when someone normal like sonya comes across characters like subzero for the first time using his freezing abilities. It'll make the earth realm warriors more relatable and capture how hard this tournament is going to be for them. Hopefully, depending on where the story goes, they can add iconic stages from the game in there too. I would love to see 'the dead pool' on the big screen! Keep it mostly serious with dark humor and for the love of god, don't make i cheesy. That's how I would love to do the movie. Can't wait to see what they do with Goro too. Hopefully he doesn't look too CG.

Glad we're in agreement. If there was another, better example of a non-gory Mortal Kombat, I promise I would have used that instead.

Re: MK movie update is apparently on the horizon

I do not believe that shitty rumor at all. There is no source. And it is a very dumb rumor at that.

But if it just so happens to be true.. F-M-L. *facepalm* Well actually.. F-Their-Lives. We dun got trolled.

Kevin Tancharoen mentioned somewhere already that Liu Kang won't be the protagonist in this movie. He said something like he realises that Liu Kang is not a typical hero of present.

I think he will put Scorpion or/and Sub-Zero in the center. Tancharoen is not stupid! He knows that this two characters are most popular!

Don't just dismiss Liu Kang for another non-popular character, either.
Even though Sub Zero and Scorpion are the most popular, the 4 most recognized characters in the MK series are probably Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang and Raiden.
