MK movie update/MK Legacy discussion

Horror?
Did you shit your pants from seeing Reptile? Or was it Baraka that made you feel so scared?
The movie wasn't going to be horror, it was going to be an ultra gritty rendition of Mortal Kombat where the characters were shown in a more realistic way. It even had a unique story of Scorpion working for Jax to find Sub Daddy.


Scorpion fighting in an underground death tournament against the likes of Cannibal Reptile and Dr. Raka? Hell yeah.


But nah, fans like you get too butthurt when change is made. You want to see the same exact story arc every single time.
 
Horror =/= scared.
Horror = SAW-like over the top grittyness and WAY overdone.
SAW isn't scary, unless you're a 2 year old, or just a puss.
Realistic doesn't have to = over the top gritty and Reptile having a stupid disease.
Realistic can also = LOTR type of cinematography, with monsters existing in the real world.
Scorpion working for anyone = bullshit, especially working for Jax and Sonya.

Scorpion fighting against Reptile who was born with a disease and a guy who went through a SAW-like procedure to put blades into his arms is lame.

Fans like me get annoyed when "fans" like you want to see Mortal Kombat being turned to garbage, by making it something that it's not.

The fantasy world in which MK exists in, which you and other people like you shit on, is what makes MK MK, in the first place.
I'm sorry that I don't agree with your vision of turning MK to shit.
 
I'd never want the games to be like Rebirth, but for a movie it was a great idea.
You just need to wipe the tears from your eyes to see it clearly.

It's one of the main elements of the series that distinguishes it from every other fighting series.
 
And it is represented beautifully in the games, AKA the franchise's main media outlet.
But I wanted to see something new, and Rebirth was just that. I've always loved seeing realistic takes on fantasy stories. Then in 2010 I saw just that with my favorite video game series.

Magic and supernatural elements are some of the MAIN the distinguishing factors that make MK MK, but no, let's just take that all away and just lazily slap the name Mortal Kombat on there, for Rebirth.

lol, wanting or not wanting rebirth is entirely subjective.

I'm tired of seeing my favorite franchises get butchered on the main screen to the point where it's not even remotely close to the material it claims to be.


If they took MK to the rebirth direction, I wouldn't even watch it. Not even for free. It would to me, be no different than the shitty direction they took the Resident Evil movies.

Sadly I think I could've enjoyed Rebirth, or the Resident Evil movies.

the problem is they put the name of something I recognize onto the movie, and I can't un-see it.

It's a decent idea, under the mask of something I recognize, which in turn makes it annoying for me.

lol Tarkatan, we're the ones that want things to remain true to the source.

We are by definition more close minded.

But my reaction isn't just out of no where, it's based on my history of viewing re-imaginings from a different source.
 
IMO, Rebirth would've been a better concept without the MK name attached to it.

MK's story is elaborate enough to make a big screen adaptation true to the source material. Til now, there hasn't been any movie that has been completely true to the source. Don't get me wrong, the first MK movie was freaking awesome, but Sub-Zero and Scorpion being Shang Tsung's slaves, as an example? Come on...

As far as I'm concerned, make a movie that's true to the story first, then if it's successful, do your spinoffs and other stuff like rebirth to reach out wider and wider.

It just seems that no one can get MK correctly, or WB doesn't think too highly of the series that the name itself won't sell, when it most likely actually will.
 
MK will never look good on the silver screen because Scorpion and Sub Zero look completely retarded in their ninja costumes.
In every adaptation they look like Power Ranger villains.
 
As far as the MK story through MK1 to MK3 is concerned, I doubt we would get anything better than MK9's story mode. No matter how much I think I can't see any future MK movie being anything better than a passable pop corn flick given how the movie would be made to appease casuals. Plus this story arc has been revisited so many times already, in both games and movies and the Legacy series. Considering this it wouldn't be a bad idea going for a different alternative, perhaps the Rebirth clip was an attempt at that, it did garner lots of support from both fans and casuals alike.

Like I said, the casuals can eat shot and die! They have contributed far less money to MK than the dedicated fans have; how are the casuals more entitled than true dedicated fans again?!

Cuz the casuals unfortunately are what makes the studio earn big bucks, not just the die hards.

Who knows the source material better than true dedicated fans? That is why they are superior to casuals! Casuals deserve to share a jail cell with Jerry Sandusky!
