Today NetherRealm Studios unveiled two new characters and stages for Mortal Kombat (2011) at Gamescom 2010 in Germany. The two new characters are Kitana and Cyrax, who look great as they are very recongizable yet also have some new distinct stylings. Along with the new Kombatants, they unveiled updated versions of the Jade's Desert and the Belltower stages from Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Word is that the sand in Jade's Desert swirls around you in a very amazing way. NetherRealm Studios was kind enough to send along a few screenshots to show our readers as well, enjoy!

Update 2:20pm CST: IGN has a great writeup on the game from GamesCom. Included in that write up is a description of Cyrax's fatalities.

Johnny Cage's fatality is a throwback to the original Mortal Kombat where he'll uppercut the loser's head clean off, and then rip the torso right off the waist. Or robot Cyrax takes his saw blades and sheers the opponent's body into five pieces that stay together, finishing him up with a body-shattering kick.

Holy crap. How did you get the Ultra high resolution images, let alone resolutions over 1080p?

Part of the press kit naturally. Common practice among some publishers going back to the PS2/Xbox days to release outrageously high res pics, often called bullshots.

Anyway, really loving the background detail.

He said it perfectly:

Press kit from NetherRealm Studios. We didn't scale them down to 1080p as they would be better at full size for better Wallpaper uses. We did compress the JPGs a bit just to reduce the full file size.

Good stuff, Pat. :)

Not a fan of Cyrax's look. Its odd. but i'll get used to it, especially if he is as fun to use as he is in MK3/UMK3

You know what... For some reason I really don't care for the designs of the cyberninjas. Its one of those things, that I just care for the fact their "there" simply because their outfits tend to be one of the more generic ones. With the flesh and blood characters, outfits change dramatically sometimes, however the cyberninjas only really vary slightly...

Noob-Smoke design taken note of, I never drew up a thought on that.

lol at Cage getting his ass beat in every picture... and they look amazing.. The chain caught me off guard too, but then I was like "It's cool"

Overall, awesome, I love hearing about the for sure characters

Something nobody has noted yet I don't think: Blood from each fighter gets on both of them. Kitana has bits of both her own and Cyrax's blood on her outfit! It's obviously more noticeable facing Reptile or the Cybers.

I for one am not fond of Cyrax's new look, but I enjoy that it's different from Sektor's enough that they're distinguishable. Kitana on the other hand....wow. I think I'm in love.

I agree Kitana looks stunning

Ya know what's weird about Cyrax? He looks kind of skeletal...but not in a kickass way, more in an emaciated african child way.

Does anyone here remember the fake I did a long way back with Cyrax killing his opponent with the large buzz saw? Probably should have copyrighted it.

BTW, what happened to the really old posts, Admins?

I FOUND IT!

Pretty neat! Good thing Cyrax is officially using his saw as his finisher (which is written in the first message of this forum).
