I think this trend started from MK9. In the earlier games, Sub Zero owned scorpion in the Mk shaolin monks intro and he seemed to be owning scorpion in MK:A intro.

In MKM:SZ Sub Zero kicks his ass, rips his spine out, Scorpion comes back to life, and Sub Zero kicks his ass again lol
 
As much as I love to say it Scorpion is the face of MK. He's awesome, beats up (and kills) Sub Zero and he's on the NRS logo to boot. Hell the statue next to me has him killing Sub Zero as we speak. :)
 
NRS made Scorpion the face of MK (biased), but he is not the face of MK for me, maybe because I come from the classic period when Liu Kang really was the hero and the main character in the games.

This is true. Even though I love Ermac (close 2nd favorite) he is the easiest guy to learn (save scorpion)

All I'm gonna say is that's like asking is Ryu/Ken the faces of SF. Agree or disagree if you like but to me they are. As far as MK I always found because of Scorps and Subz rivalry. They're both the face of the MK franchise. But if I had to single out .. yes my boy Scorp is the face of the Franchise :hail:

or maybe its a coincidence I have a wicked statue of Scorpion killing Sub Zero... ugghh I love how I'm the only Scorpion fan out of my friends :)

As much as I like Sub-Zero almost as much as Scorpion I will say that Scorpion is the poster boy for NRS and the game. As to people commenting on which characters are easiest to use. Scorpion is a noob friendly character which means he is simple to use right out of the box so to speak just like Noob Saibot, Ermac, Mileena, and Raiden. But to use him as a character in high level skilled playing takes practice just as much as any other character. Any character is easy to use once you learn and master thier moves set. So after you become a skilled player(not a spammer) there is no such thing as cheesiness any more. Some players are always trying to make themselves feel better and feed their ego by saying that they use a character that is difficult to learn or use lol. Funny thing is that once they learn that character and he/she is no longer "hard to use" they have to find any character to beef up their ego lol.
 
Kano is really "newbie friendly". Easy to use and annoying for opponent. Even noob with Kano can be painful :)

Scorpion wants to be a face of franchise. NRS surely intended to focus on Scorpion from the begining of MK9.
Being voiced by Ed Boon, who received Guiness record for voicing the video game character for longest time, I am sure they consider Scorpion cool.
Who is the face of whole MK? Hard to tell, everyone has his personal opinion and feeling. Raiden? Shao Kahn? Scorpion? Sub-Zero? Liu Kang? Maybe even Johnny Cage.
Sub-Zero did not miss in any MK game.
Raiden appeared in Unreal Championship 2 as "guest star". Being a clone of sorcerer Lightning from Big Trouble in Little China movie, Raiden is usually recognised by MK moodles. And also is a major role of Christopher Lambert.
 
Sub-Zero appeared in MK3, while Scorpion did not. + points for Sub Zero
He also got his own spinoff game with his name in the title. more + points


but all this is irrelevant now, cause they have whored out Scorpion so much in MK9. I still say they are equal though.

You seem to be almost ashamed by the way you are stating how Ermac is easy to use and by associating him with macaroni and cheese lol. You should be happy if your favorite character is easy to use. That means you'll only have to spend 2 months mastering that character than using a different character that will take you 3-4 months to master. Regardless no matter how much longer it takes you to master a ceratin character over another, once you've mastered the "difficult" character what excuse are you going to use when you get beat over and over again? lol

No, I'm not ashamed by how easy he is to use.
It's just alot ppl hate on the 'Mac because he kicks ass and makes it look easy.
He was my first (instant) main.

But these days these two go hand in hand. Developers are aware of the most popular characters and in turn make them a bit easier to play as. In SF games there's no arguing that Ryu is one of the easier characters for new players to play well as. In Mario games this is the reason that Mario himself always has balanced stats.
 
Both Sub and Scorpion seeing how at least one of them has been in every Mortal Kombat, except Special Forces. I would lean toward Scorp now, but back in the day I think it would have been Sub. He did have his own game. But it's both of them.
 
It goes without saying, cuz he's Ed Boon's favorite. Even tho Sub has been in just as many mk's and had his own title.
