I'm New and I need help!!

sorry i don't know where it's appropriate to post this but i really need some help...My cousin bought me MK9 as a Christmas gift...I used to play MK1-MKTrilogy and then after that i switch to King of Fighters. I haven't been keeping track of the MK series for a while now...For the last two weeks, i've been playing MK9 nonstop and i was getting pretty good with Johnny Cage so far...He's combos are easy to use and he's one of the faster character as far as i can tell...

I fought my cousin a few times and i think i actually did very well...until i was up against Noob Saibot..There's nothing i can do in this match up..usually i can just block my way through the projectiles..but with Noob, the shadow just push me back a little every time i block..and if i jump, i kick the shadow upkick...Is there a way i can get around this? I'm getting very frustrated and i don't wanna throw my PS controller at the screen lol...

I want to add another character but i don't know who's good..i just want someone easier to use as a starter...thank you everyone...
 
Scorpion is always a good warm up character for new players until you move up to someone else.

Scorpion's teleport can get you around the shadows but if you still like to use Johnny just try to move quick in between his shadows until you get close, then beat the crap out of him and don't let him throw more lol
 
I would have to say Sub zero man, you need more knowledge than the average player to use scorpion to his full potential.

Why sub you may ask.

Fast normals

Decent mixing game

High damaging combos

Read the Sub zero thread bro 8)
 
I find it funny people use examples of characters they probably loose against alot, as been beginners characters. I agree with the statement someone made dont worry about you character, but getting good with your chosen character

Johnny has one of the fastest dashes in the game. Just keep dash blocking. Also if you have meter try the EX shadow kick. It has armor and will go through projectiles.
 
Find a character that you're comfortable with and spend a good chunk of time in Practice mode. Watch some combo videos on Youtube to see if you can copy them. If not, alter the combo to fit your style of play. Practice wakeups with your character so you can learn to take the heat off if you're getting dropped repeatedly. Practice moves to see what kind of popups you have, what kind of pushbacks, and you definitely want to learn what moves can get through blocking. That should be a really good start for you.
 
I've explained how to beat noob with characters like Johnny cage before. I'm having problems finding it though as it's a long post and I loath typing on my iphone4, for more than a single paragraph.
 
thank you everyone...you guys are so nice in here...I feel more comfortable now so i went online and play a little against other people....I've met some of the biggest douche-bag in there...i was playing against a player who uses Scorpion..we went to the third round and it was a very very close match but he beat me and didn't get me a rematch..then he wrote "i'm done fukking with you, now pull your pants up." i was like dude wtf, you know that i can beat you if you rematch me..he didn't rematch me...but thanks everyone..and thanks to those who put a lot of effort into the Character threads..i've been reading them and i realized that some of the first few combos/strategies may not work anymore because the game is being nerf so many times...

Yeah they have not been updated to post patch for a while the best you can do with those is read any posts in with a post patch date.

Tell you what, ask me what problems you're having and I will type an essay on my iPhone for you. bbblp if you remember that thread where you told me you were trying to avoid a critical lecture my post to you should help this guy out a bit.

The key is to not always jump when you're midscreen. You can attack him when he whiffs his upknee. Learn the distance you can stand from him minimum without getting hit so you can dash in and punish. Probably need a friend to spam upknee so you can practice. When they wise on to your trick though they will start back walking or coming in with a JiP themselves. adapt accordingly (anti air) ect ect.
