I get it now, NRS now HATES Liu Kang.

Clearly, they do. This craps been going on since Tobias left.

First, he dies in Deadly alliance and becomes a zombie for the next 2 games. Then, he dies in MK9, gets revived as a revenant and is now evil...the Jason Vorhees ending is really the icing on the salty cake here. I really miss the days when he was the hero of the franchise and not the arrogant womp that keeps getting shafted like he does now.

Would DC do sh** like this to Superman? I get it, Boon hates Liu Kang and loves Scorpion, but he shouldn't let his biases take over the story line.

Anyways, I can't wait for the day Ed steps down from the franchise and the next guy to take over intentionally sh**s all over Scorpion in every single game.
 
Liu Kang is all used up. Making him a revenant is the most interesting thing that has happened to him since the beginning.
 
Did you want to have Liu Kang save the day in every game?
I didn't like him as a Zombie but him becoming the Netherrealm ruler is a great development. You may like or dislike his new assholish personality, but in earlier games he had no personality at all. Also, who gives a shit about a guest character's ending?
I don't see the hate at all, they turned a dull, always-follows-Raiden dude who was ALWAYS there to beat the bad guy into a character with his own motives. And the best thing is we actually saw why he changed and why he questions Raiden and the Elder Gods. Again, that's great character development.

Also, they "sh**ed all over Scorpion" in MK9 more than (almost) any character
 
He's now the ruler of an entire realm, he has one of the most unique variations that allows him to change between light and dark powers, and even when he's dead the whole game he was added to the roster over some characters that are indeed alive throughout the story.

Please tell me how does NRS hate him? Because evidence says otherwise.

I never actually left. I just don't have much forum time as of late. I'll keep popping up here and there... Especially if there's an interesting topic. Which there aren't any of at the moment. lol
 
NRS isn't a collective mind. I'm sure there are a lot of people in the studio that love Liu Kang, or else he wouldn't be in the game.

He's a full-blown villain now, with a guaranteed spot in the next game. Taking him in a different direction is good since he's become stale as the hero.
 
I've played MK since the first one and this is the first time I've actually liked Liu Kang.

I didn't dislike him, apart form zombie Liu Kang (just didn't like the look and things, can't really remember his dialog to be honest)

This game I actually like him enough to main, which I never thought would happen before release.

They have made a bog standard hero in to a character with attitude now. He knows he is badass and doesn't shy away from the fact on MKX
 
In Erron Black’s ending all the Special Forces kids die. Clearly, this can only mean that the people at NRS secretly hate half of their new characters. :mrgreen:

If you create a game series with an on-going story line you need progress and character development. Otherwise your story gets stale very soon. Turning the former hero Liu Kang into a ruthless emperor and sworn enemy of Raiden was a bold choice but it’s could lead to some great stories in the future of the franchise.

C'mon guys dafuq, have you even played against any kang players? Lmao hes hard to get real good with im saying 45% combos mid screen etc.
Im not a Kang player but I think its cool they gave him some old school costumes etc etc, yeah he resembles Bruce Lee, but so what? Would you rather have bland characters like Frost, sareena, Shao Casual, or even Mavado or tanya take his place?????

NRS doesn't hate Liu Kang enough. He's still in the game, his role in the story is awesome and his gameplay and Variations are really cool and fitting. If NRS truly hated Liu Kang, he wouldn't even be in the game. Just ask Hsu Hao, Mokap and Drahmin. Oh right, you can't, because they don't exist anymore.

And yes, Superman has died, turned evil and been screwed over PLENTY of times in the comics.
 
The OP most definitely does not speak on behalf of the Cage family.

I am sure that if the Cage family could be reached for comment, they would say "Liu Kang is a dumb hero and needs to not be that again for a long, long time, so thank you to whoever at NRS is responsible for that appropriately not happening, and also he will be a fantastic villain. P.S. we make better protagonists, suck it."
 
I think that becoming Netherrealm Emperor is pretty cool actually. And Revenant/Dark Emperor are a hundred miles better design than Zombie Kang.

Kitana becoming a Dark Empress gives me hope that instead of being under control of dark forces (like 80% of the time) she will be the one in control now.

NRS does not hate kang I don't think, Otherwise, he would not have this much significance in the franchise.

However, though 'Bad Liu' is interesting, IMO, I think that's just a cheap way out of spending more time to try and make him an interesting hero, which NRS can't really seem to do...

Or, maybe thats exactly what they are trying to do this time around?

They seem to be taking the similar approach with Liu Kang, as G. Lucas did with Anakin Skywalker in SW. From being Raiden's most loyal student and "yes man"(much like padawan Anakin and Master Obi Wan), to the epic clash between them, now Anakin/Liu becomes as villain and hates the master and has dark evil plans...

Revenant Liu = Dark Anakin(pre 'TRUE' D Vader), Dark Emperor Kang=possibly Darth Vader?

So for Liu to have gone from this GOODY Good hero, to the Ruler of HELL?? That is some kind of development there!!

But, I have no doubt Liu will be back good again, but probably not the goody good like before, because he would have a kind of 'Dark past' and the consequences of living with such, which could make his character alot less 1 dimensional...IF NRS does it right...

or like some are pondering, MK takes the "DC crisis" route...and something unforeseen happens that joins two timelines etc.

So If I were you, I wouldnt jump the gun on NRS hating kang, just yet...

Lets see where this 'Dark Emperor of Netherrealm' era goes for Kang... AND he's not alone...He still has Maleficen--*cough*--I mean Dark Empress Kitana at his side through Life...and apparently Death. Good...and Evil. She is another who is getting some drastic and much needed changes.
