How YOU feel about guests in MK

spider man doesnt fit at all, and I find it funny someone who openly says they hate guests on every thread possible and relplies "EPIC FAIL" on people opinions, would want him in. Hypocrisy is not a good trait.

Venom or carnage would work better, but even they would be pushing it

I'm a Venom freak, but even still so, I'd stand by my opinion that "guest characters" don't belong in MK, AT ALL.

Shit, Metal Gear Solid is my FAVORITE game series OF ALL TIME (Yes, including over MK), but anyone from that universe would feel stupid in MK (including Vamp and Gray Fox).

There's just something about it that feels "OFF".

Its the evolution of the series.

MK stood on violence.
Now that the shock has warn off, they need to rely on competitive gameplay and guest gimmicks for extra cash.

Most fighting games have a way to get into our wallets.

Street Fighter re-release and port their games all the time.

Soul Calibur is guest heavy.

Tekken has Armor King who is your god.

And Super Smash Bros. uses familiar faces.

pretty much every fighter series has guests now, its just how it is.

I dont know why some people think MK would not conform to this and are outraged because of it. It brings NRS extra cash and fans. Anything to keep them making more games is fine with me

More characters are more characters. Judging a character just from his looks and background are bad. You actually have to play the character. So far, Freddy looks good. I'm looking forward to see who's coming next.

Yeah, I know b, b, b, b, lp.

I know it's the evolution of fighters, but maybe it's just me.
I'm stuck in an era where MK stood on its own 2 legs, without the need of outside help.

MK can stand on its on now.

But WB doesn't just want it to stand, they want it to ****ing fly.
So they toss in cash cows to harvest their flesh.

I wish Freddy wasn't in MK, but since he is, I wont try to fight it, just more stress if I do.

I dont like guests, but I'd accept a guest with decent powers, from the trailer I saw, Freddy's moves seem boring and out of imagination IMO, that's why I dont like him in MK, I dont like guests, but more important I dont like how he plays. Other guests would fit better than Freddy IMO and would have cooler moves, like Venom but if you let me choose, I prefer no guests at all.

I just can't see how having a single guest character (2 if you count Kratos) means that it needs outside help to stand. Smash bros, brawl had Sonic and Snake, and I don't think that any less of a game. I still think that you might see some of the characters you actually wanted in later DLCs, so I wouldn't go return the game just because of a single character you don't like. I don't like Shang tsung, I'm still playing the game...

I mean, I get what you mean about having guest characters, but can't you just ignore it?

the dissapointing thing about freddy is, he could have had the most unique moves in the game due his powers being dream related, but they went and made his moves just simple hack and slash stuff, the enlarged ground claw is the only fitting attack because it looks surreal like he should be.

According to this logic, Freddy would have a crap-load of fatalities. >.<

I know the fatalities are related to the movies but his geyser fatality is just lame, and the oven fatality is too random just because he summons an oven from nowhere, I dont care it was in a movie, it looks weird and lame, it would be cool as an stage fatality though, maybe in a Freddy stage but we know we are not getting new stages.

What I meant by "needing outside help to stand," is that if WB / NRS felt that MK was a strong enough brand, this wouldn't even be a topic of conversation.
Obviously, they felt that Mortal Kombat "NEEDED" these characters, in order to ensure their longevity and strengthen their brand.

I can understand WHY they did it, and it's a GOOD plan, from a business point-of-view.
As an old-school fan, I just don't agree with it. :-(

I agree with you there. I do think the oven should be a stage fatality. He's the only one who summons something to kill his opponent. (Unless you want to count Skarlet's second fatality.)

Alright, fair enough. However, I don't think they did it as a gimmick, to get extra money. Maybe they did, I don't know, but it seems to me like maybe someone on the dev team liked Nightmare on Elm street a lot, or like, I dunno, looked up to Freddy, or something stupid like that. I think the very fact that they have DLC means that they feel like they NEED to strengthen the brand. Honestly, I see Freddy as just another character, maybe that's why I don't understand your point of view.

Not really.

I can't find the exact threads, at the moment, but if you look at all the DLC character polls (on TRMK and the amount of people that harassed ED Boon on Twitter), the most popular MK requested DLC characters have always been:

- Cyber-Smoke (UMK 3)
- Rain (which should have been on the MAIN roster to begin with, so people demand his inclusion due to UMK 3 birth-right)
- Tanya (MK 4)
- Rieko (MK 4)
- Fujin (MK 4)
- Kenshi (MK: DA)
- Shinnok (MK 4)
- Tremor (MK: Special Forces)

MK has enough of it's OWN UMK 3 and post-UMK 3 characters that are anticipated for DLC, by popular demand, that it never NEEDED outside DLC.

MK has strength for DLC, in it's own brand.
Just ask the fans.
This is what they've demanded.

So, my question to NRS is simply: "Why not sell these other TOP REQUESTED DLC characters, instead?"

Well, if they are having another batch of DLCs or two, they are probably going to hold off on the requested characters.

It's just business. They'll probably have one of the most requested characters be the first DLC character, so people will buy the season pass, thinking the rest will be the same. Then they'll have less requested characters too, maybe even another guest.

EDIT: Also, what b b b lp said. They can't give us all the characters, they need to save some for the next game, and I think they should too. That way, they can think long and hard about what they're going to do to make that character the best possible.

They are only top requested because that is all we have to work with.
Its like "Pick your favorite smelling shit"

With Rain being in, Cyber-Smoke being confirmed and Tremor having no chance, guests are next best thing.

I would honestly rather have Jason than any post UMK3 character.
Save them for MK10 where they can properly be reintroduced and fleshed out.
