E3 2010 Day 1: Mortal Kombat Unveiled

Holy crap does that ever look brutal.
Almost brings a tear to my eyes.

I actually like the sound of the new meter. I don't want SF style supers, but that sounds like a cool new element. Perhaps they'll implement the button codes to remove it as desired.

I still want to see longer game play videos! Aside from that, all of the new details sound excellent. With Reptile's vomit fatality, I can see why Boon was thinking they might've crossed a line.

Now we can go back to speculating who the other 12 18 characters will (not) be.

Oh YES!!!!!! This game will have special meters to to make the characters stronger. Now how cool is that? Now, I want to see who the next set of characters will be and I still want to see Mileena's fatality. Kung Lao's fatalities are my favorites so far in the game based on what I saw. I hope Mileena and other of my favorite characters can pull off fatalities that are as nasty as that. I definitely need to start playing as Kung Lao. :)

@Fayte: I'm crossing my fingers for Mileena's fatality too.

yea mileena's should be gruesome, im lovin reptiles acid fatality

Oh yeah! Mileena's fatality should be sexy too. Reptile's is also COOOOOOL!!! I's want Khameleon to do something similar to that but she should French Kiss the victim while puking out acid.

Are you... actually starting to like it? Haha.

Well, I never said that I wouldn't like the actual game; I am very interested in the Konquest, tag Kombat, online play and the downloadable content. Sure, I really hate the poor excuse for a story, and I hate that we're getting a boring rehash of the same 'ol characters (did we really need Nightwolf again?). But, the graphics and game play looks pretty amazing. If team MK keeps up with it, and provides DLC on a regular basis, then it should definitely keep me interested a lot longer than MK vs. DCU.

About that.... I'm not feeling the story at all, either. It's obviously just an excuse to ignore characters from the last 6 games.

But for me, that's fine as long as the gameplay kicks ass.

As much of a stickler for story as I always was with MK, I actually like this idea. I like it better than an all out reboot that just ignores all the other games altogether but I guess it depends how you look at it.

Then again, maybe it's the nostagia-seeking part of me that really likes a return to the MK1-3 time frame (or MKT remake), so I'm probably just rationalizing that.

"The select screen features 26 slots in a 4 x 7 arrangement, with 8 characters displayed. The bottom row is made up of a Random Select square, two characters and one Downloadable Content placeholder. Therefore, the minimum number of characters will be 26 + DLC Characters."

Konfirmed Characters
1. Johnny Cage
2. Kung Lao
3. Mileena
4. Nightwolf
5. Reptile
6. Scorpion
7. Sektor
8. Sub-Zero

Unkonfirmed Characters from Mortal Kombat Trilogy or the 1-3
(in my opinion from most likely to unlikely)
9. Raiden
10. Liu Kang
11. Shang Tsung
12. Baraka
13. Jax
14. Sonya
15. Kitana
16. Kano
17. Cyrax
18. Kabal
19. Sindel
20. Jade
21. Ermac
22. Noob Saibot
23. Sheeva
24. Stryker
25. Smoke
26. Rain

That puts at the 26 but I say the bottom 2 slots could be bosses
27. Goro
28. Shao Kahn
29. Kintaro
30. Motaro

And although they said the first 3 I wouldn't rule out Quan Chi
Thats all of them but I think some of the top 26 wont make it
Maybe some new characters?

I doubt new characters based on Ed's description of the storyline. Unless, by Raiden altering the old timeline, it causes new people to get involved. One thing whtillnvrb said got me to thinking about DLC... I definitely rule out Quan Chi as a main character on the 26 person roster, but remember when Ed and team released pics of Quan Chi as DLC for MK vs DC? They didn't release/complete that DLC due to the legal issues surrounding Midway's demise, but it certainly opens the door for potentially releasing him as DLC for this game considering they already have some rendering/design work done for that character.
