Boon is considering klassic stages DLC

Earthrealm, Outworld, and the Netherrealm being the primary settings in MK are a defining characteristic of MK. Edenia would be included in that group if that realm were actually alive in this timeline. But it's not. It's physical form is merged with Outworld, and the only legitimate successors to that realm's throne are ruling the Netherrealm instead.

Orderrealm and Chaosrealm are supporting cast type of realms.

And that can change in future installments, if NRS wills it.

I care...
I would only probably really enjoy it IF the story mode chapters would be from characters that didn't have one in the Main Story and filled in the blanks!

I care too! I'm not talking about people on this forum, I'm talking about the casual players. The trophy stats on PS4 say that something like half of people haven't even touched story mode.

If they do in MK11 the same thing with the realms as they did with the characters in MKX it will be perfect. MKX is proof a MK game doesn't need a Trilogy roster with the same characters and arenas to succeed. If you cleverly mix things up, maintaining a balance between the old and new, it can work.

There's no need to get rid of Earthrealm, Netherrealm and Outworld. Of course they will and should be included in some way in the next game. They just won't be the main focus. Now it's the PS2 era's time to shine.

The PS2 Era was the worst era of MK. MK was absent at tournaments during that era for a very good reason.

In a way you're right. But what is the correlation? Are you worried that if NRS revisits the PS2 characters/arenas/realms/story in the next game, which they will because it's the next logical step and there is nothing left of classic MK to explore, that the game will be a broken failure much like Armageddon?

I think they prooved with MKX that these worries are pointless. A huge step up from MK9 and previous games. Just look at the characters. Flawless updated designs. Amazing gameplay. Much more casual/tournament oriented. The Krypt.

I would be only worried if they decided to bring back mini games (Puzzle/Chess/Motor) and Konquest, cause those are tricky. But in terms of everything else you can relax. I think they learned and WB is putting pressure on them, which during the PS2 era they lacked, not to screw up. But I do agree that topping MKX will be hard, if not impossible, as people will have even bigger expectations. That's also sadly why I think MK11 won't come anytime soon. Maybe in 4-6 years.

Kenshi was one of the things that was right during the 3D Era, but you are sadly mistaken if the fanbase at large wants to see a repeat of Kira, Kobra, Hsu Hao, Taven, and Daegon.

If you haven't noticed, MK9 wasn't an exact repeat of MK1-3 and MKX isn't an exact repeat of MK4/MSZ/SF/DA. More like a re-visit, re-imagination, retelling, remake.

With a limited roster and time, we certainly won't be seeing all of PS2 characters/stages/events and likely some of those we will be seeing will be altered. Not trying to sound like a smartass, but it's fairly certain MK11 will have playable only the more popular ones, along with returning ones, a few new ones and one or two wild cards. They're listening. They know people want only Kenshi, Havik, Frost, Li Mei, Bo Rai Cho, Hotaru, Nitara, Shujinko, Onaga and Daegon with the rest left pretty much forgotten. That's just 10, more like 7/8 since some could be a boss, PS2 era characters in the roster. Those that are either popular, important or have potential. Sadly out of those Kenshi probably won't make it, because he'll be too old; same goes for Sonya and Johnny and Jax. Minus also Baraka and probably Kano and Mileena. Then add the remaining MKX roster with 2-4 new characters and that's your MK11 roster. Happy?

The logical move frankly is to pretend the PS2 era never happened and take advantage of the reboot to do an entirely new story with new characters. I like some of the PS2 chars a lot -- Ashrah comes to mind -- but those games were the critical nadir of the main series and the new MKX characters have been extremely well-received. Why go backward? I doubt they will.

Just want to go out and say why is it that everyone acts like we'll get the exact same PS2 era games if NRS were to revisit that era? Like things will be polished up, they'll be reimagined. We aren't going to get the exact same game thrown at us from around 10 years ago. NRS is in a better position to make that era work now. We shouldn't just write it off because it sucked all those years ago and we think it's irredeemable.

I don't think it's irredeemable, I just think unlike the Trilogy games where there's a huge casual nostalgia factor there isn't a ton for them to gain from revisiting that era.

Very true. Some people just don't believe in second chances. Look at Shinnok for example: Most write him off after that atrocious battle on MK4 and for his moveset as nothing but a lesser Shang Tsung. But in this game, NRS did him very justice. Not only made him an actual legitimate threat story-wise, but also revamp him drastically and his boss form was good appearance-wise, although gameplay-wise is a bit annoying.

Can we all be a bit open-minded about 2nd chances revamp please?

It was absent from tournies because the gameplay was atrocious, not because it was the worst era. It was one of the best for the story of MK, and those games were great besides the broken gameplay.

And the gameplay made the 3D era the worst era.

I'm glad they went back to the 2D era. MKD, MKDA, and MKA got on my nerves.
MK4 was the only 3D gameplay I fell in love with.
I still count MK4 as pre-3D. It really wasn't 3D. The graphics were 3D, but the gameplay was virtually identical to the 2D games.

I always count it as the 3D fighter guinea pig for MK. It was technically 3D fighting but it was still in the transitioning stage.
As MKDA-MKA moves were mainly 3D oriented, MK4 moves were all about the 2D plane. [besides Reiko's awkward teleport]
