Batman: Arkham City

If they really decide to do a Green Lantern game, the other question is; Which Green Lantern are they gonna use?

There's 4 modern Green Lanterns from Earth (not really sure) or they gonna use all of them:

Hal Jordan
Brett Gardner
Kyle Raymer
John Stewart

Gameplay system should be like, if you ran out of powers, you can use your portable lantern to fullt charge your ring, up to 3 times. The save point would be a huge latnern that can also recharge the ring and reset the count on the portable lantern. As you level up, stronger and more long range attacks and defense will be available, as well as increasing the number of times, the amount of times of the portable lantern.

Hal Jordan of course. But it might be cool to let you play as others in the GLC not just the GL's from earth. And boss ideas on the gameplay system!

I would much prefer a Green Lantern game to a Superman game. Still, it could be interesting to see where Rocksteady would go with the Superman game.

My only question with the Green Lantern game is, how do you handle the infinite construct idea of the power ring? You can allow customization to basic constructs, but you can't have players making them from scratch, which a lot of people(including myself) would want to do.

I could deal with modding basic contstructs, however. It's just that I would greatly prefer more freedom in terms of the creation engine.

I saw commercials for both the Joker Carnival Challenge map and the Robin pre-order content. Both looked great, but I have to say the Joker map one was better. The Robin one was two screenshots of him with a second of gameplay, maybe less. Meanwhile, the other had Harley narrating it with Batman beating the crap out of some prisoners.

I also saw the Green Lantern Blu-ray commercial, which if course, had the Sinestro Corps Batman costume, which was only a picture.

If WB/Rocksteady want to promote the pre-order DLC, they should make some gameplay trailers for them. I thought of one which was awesome for the Batman: TAS skin. My friends thought it was pretty good. Anyway, they really should promote the DLC a little more with specific trailers for some if not all of them.

This just in, the pre-order DLC has been dated for release and priced! According to examiner.com, Gamestop has listed details on the pre-order DLC. The Batman: Arkham City Skins pack has a scheduled release date of December 6th and will be priced at $4.99; Gamestop has not listed whether all the skins would be included, bt for 5 dollars, I would expect all of them. The Robin Bundle which includes the Robin character and his two exclusive Challenge maps (along with his two skins) is scheduled for a November 22nd release date with a price of $6.99. Nightwing has no release date or price at this point; technically, he was never officially announced, so it makes sense.

I'm definitely picking up all the DLC for this game when it releases. The one thing that concerns me is that the exclusive maps, such as the Joker Carnival Challenge map and the Iceberg lounge map(CE), were not included. Does this mean that they are truly exclusive and will not release, or that they will be given a release date later on?

When the game hits retail, I'll be rocking it with my Batman:TAS skin and Joker carnival map, but when the others release, I'll definitely be trying out the Batman Beyond skin and the Dark Knight Returns skin. What about you all? Do you have any pre-order DLC with retailers, or will you be waiting to buy them as DLC later on?

PLEASE DON'T DOUBLE POST, USE THE EDIT BUTTON, THANKS =)

Update Edit: Nightwing has officially been announced as a character! Along woth the character comes two challenge maps: Main Hall and Wayne Manor. Also, the character comes with one extra costume: the Nightwing Batman:TAS skin (however, if I wanted to be nitpicky, the correct term would be The New Batman Adventures Nightwing, but I digress as that show was a continuation of Batman:TAS). It is releasing on November 1st for XBL and PSN for a price of $6.99 and 560 Microsoft points.

No pictures of the TAS costume or any actual gameplay of Nightwing. Are you excited for this offical announcement?

Edit #2 Update- 10/14/11

More reviews are in, and they are looking great. A new trailer was also released by WB to no doubt promote the game right before it's release. Here it is:

Oh, and this was pretty funny as well:

Lol, "I thought I heard a marshmallow hit my house." What do you think of both trailers?

4 DAYS LEFT!!! :) :) :)

Kyle you are a rabid "Dark Knight" fan.
A man after my own heart.

There have been so many awesome announcments this past week.

So excited for "NightWing" on the 1st of November. Kinda wish they would have released everything on the same date.

Though Nightwing and the game itself should keep us busy until all the pre-order DLC is released.

I have watched 2 Reviews on the game fromIGN and Machinima, both gave Arkham City a stellar 9.5 out of 10 review.

Here's the Machinima review which was a little longer and more thoughtful as to why they didn't give it a perfect score.

Haven't been looking for any info regarding story or plot because I really don't want to spoil any of the many surprises that are in the game.

I couldve sworn I saw DeathStroke in the new launch trailer for a split second but it couldve just been DeadShot.

All the reviews are saying that there are a few surprise villains though, so I am very anxious to see who pops up.

And the CatWoman DLC is intergrated into the story seamlessly and I'm hoping Robin gets treated in the same fashion. Its Saturday so only 3 days left now!
I'm currently running through Arkham Asylum again trying to 100% it, challenge maps and all!

I'll post a pic when I have my copy.
Think everyone should do the same just for fun.
@Kyle My fav part of that funny trailer is where dude says, "Your face is like Two-Face's except both sides are ugly".
****in Hilarious

Tuesday The Dark Knight Returns!!!

Yes, I am. I always liked him, and it was about time we got a good Batman game, and AA seemed good. Then when it released, I was blown away. I can't count how many times I played thtough it, but I just loved that game so much, and I have high hopes for AC.

So many announcements this past week, like you noticed, that's its hard to focus on all of them. Between the on-disc content and DLC, I truly believe we'll be occupied for months to come.

I check the reviews for final statements and points, and read nothing else to avoid plot lines, lol. Can't spoil anything mere days before release.

I did not see Deathstroke, but who knows. Rocksteady has lots of side missions, so its possible. I already got spoiled on a surprise villian, which I won't mention, but his inclusion is pretty awesome.

I hope Robin or Nightwing have some sort of appearance in the SP, maybe not playable, but as a partner in battle, IE 40 guys show up and outnumber Batman, and Nightwing and/ or Robin swing in to help. That would be really cool!

As for Nightwing, I hope he gets his original costume (I'm not a fan of it, but it's not terrible) since he has only one bonus costume.

The only thing I feel that this game should try is co-op, especially with all of these playable characters. How cool would it be to have Batman with Nightwing fighting back to back for a MP mode? I think they should give it a shot.

Anyway, three days left!!! WOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTT!!!!

On a side note, I especially look forward to my Batman:TAS skin. I think I'm going to try and re-enact the title sequence from TAS, LOL!

Multiplayer would be so bad-ass! Wish they couldve included atleast a small co-op mode with a few missions.
Have fun recreating the title sequence from TAS I too will be perching batman on a rooftop ledge and moving the camera dramatically and nerding out about how awesome it looks.

I personally wouldve liked to see this game get 10 out of 10 because in both reviews I've seen the complaints were so miniscule it shouldn't have affected the games overall score.

I'm currently about 65% through AA and it still impresses me. And I've played it through about 4 or 5 times. So I'm sure AC will blow me away.

And I'm sure if the dlc is a sucess we'll see more costumes and what not.

I'm excited to fight solomon grundy the clips that I've seen of him look so awesome. And 400 riddler challenges! This game will surely keep me busy for a long time!

I'm officially hyped up for this game. well I was hyped before. But since i didn't pre-order. I'm gonna wake up at midnight and camp wal-mart even though I got work the next day at 4a.m.

We finished ponying up the rest of our Collector's Edition pre-order balance. There shall be delicious unboxing photos shortly after Midnight, Monday-into-Tuesday.

And I will dance.

If the game is really good, the dance will be scantily clad.

Ive done this many times. sadly.lol. Wall Mart usually put the games up by 10 AM. AT least the Wall Marts where I am from.

I think the reason reviewers are avoiding perfect scores for this is because usually it looks suspicious, as in, it is so rare to find a game that is perfect. Not to mention, it also makes the reviewer look biased and that he or she isn't taking a subjective point of view of the game. It all boils down to what the reviewer feels is appropriate.

I'm really considering making a video which emulates TAS opening in Arkham City. Except that I'm probably going to be so busy with all the content in AC to actually do anything else, lol.

ONLY 2 DAYS LEFT, BAT-FANS!!!

what games got perfect scores?

because I bet I could take any game that has a perfect score and point out a flaw or make it better.

Perfect score to me is like... "It's so good everyone will enjoy it"

I mean I love Starcraft, and I will try to preach how perfect of a game it was, but that's because it fills my competitive needs. A game that can fill the needs of a casual/pro/average gamer all at the same time drawing in people out of genre. like someone who doesn't like say.. first person shooter but brings them in.

a game that can do all that is very close to achieving a perfect 10.

for example...

a fighting game needs the right level of tech skill and easy of play, to draw in a perfect score. When I worked at gamestop you wouldn't believe how many people asked me for a fighting game that's easy to play and doesn't require ridiculously hard inputs for combos.

but if you make the combos too easy... then the professionals sort of get annoyed because they feel like everyone can execute what they can execute. I think a pro would be fine with this as long as the level of mindgames is extremely deep.

For instance I hated Starcraft 2 when if first came out, because I thought they made it too noob friendly. But then I realized... who cares about tech skill as long as the game allows people to worry about strategies/scouting. Why should they have to worry about how fast they push buttons, before they learn strategy.

I do dances whenever I get a game as well except completely nude and if the game was terrible its naked punch dancing time! What! Don't judge me yo! Its good stress relief!

Its midnight here in TN so it tickles my ****les to be able to say!!!
One Day Left Til Arkham City!!!

I've been replaying Arkham Asylum just as a refresher and decided to try and platinum it as well. Beat story mode on hard just for fun and still doing challenges and I'm only 5 trophies away from Platinum!
Needless to say I played so much last night that when I fell asleep I dreamed about Batman grappling around constantly. It was very vivid and very strange!
I'm so stoked! After I get this game I will probably be absent from the boards for a grip!
The Dark Knight FTW!!!

What do you guy's think of CatWoman being Online Pass Only DLC? If you buy a used copy you have to pay 10.00 for this DLC. Do you think this is a good or bad trend for game developers and publishers? I for one support all the online passes. Its a smart move for publishers and developers. A way to make profit from used copies that are sold and they never see a dime for. I myself never buy used games for this very reason. A huge amount of money is never seen by developers and publishers because a single copy of their game can be bought and resold over and over at gamestop and other used game dealers. This is especially a problem with smaller independent developers that lose tons of money because their under the radar game gets resold over and over and they never see anything but profit from the initial sale. And then have to close up shop due to lackluster sales. So support the franchises you love by buying new copies of their games. Look at it this way, Arkham City 60.00 new and it includes CatWoman DLC buy it used for 55.00 and pay 10.00 for the DLC, 65.00 so you lose 5 bucks and gamestop gets all the profit from the used copy, not Rocksteady or WBIE who should be getting paid for their art. Used games rob the creators of the games you play and love. Support the creators of these great games so they will keep making them! Boycott used games!

I think there's a fine line. Obviously, the tactic is designed to encourage sales of new copies. But the reality is that the used business will always, always be around. So long as people have unwanted games. The only long term impact I see it having is reducing the margins stores will make on used games because they'll be forced into reducing the prices of used games if they have online passes for the new copies. I'm sure it'd be better incentive for people to buy the game new if developers made sure their online content and service was pretty solid (are you listening, NRS?).

That said, this sort of 'Sell-it-Again-Sam' gimmick is very transparent and one I'm sure consumers will eventually get wise to, and hopefully protest with their wallets. It isn't enough already that you have to pay more for stuff that's already on the disc to begin with, but now they want even more from people who decided to save some money buying used? Trust me, if it weren't for used, I wouldn't have purchased a LOT of games. If I didn't have that option, I might not even bother owning a 7th gen console. Too expensive.

Its understandable people wanting to get rid of games that they're done with. I'm not really that type though. I'd rather always have a game and rediscover it later, rather than get 20-30% of what I paid for it from Gamestop. And yes a lot of gamers see these online passes as a slight against them, or companies being money hungry. But game development is a pricey thing now a days and its a neccessary evil. Yes some companies charge for on disc content but in this situation its an incentive to buy it new and not Rocksteady and WB milking fans of their hard earned money. Plus DLC is always optional, on disc or not you aren't pressured into buying it. I don't see that as a problem its sort of a safety net for developers so if sales aren't great they can recoup losses without having to spend money on development. I love games, and I've seen great games suffer because of the used games trend. When in reality all people really save is five dollars. If you took Arkham City the day after release you would get 20-25 cash 30-35 trade in. Then they would turn around and sell it for 55 dollars. Its shady business and people keep selling games to these *******s even though they're making a 25-30 dollar profit off a transaction like that. It's ******** plain and simple. I just like to see a developer paid for their artistic endeavors so that they will keep making the games I and so many others love and appreciate. I'm sure Rocksteady will be just fine and sell millions of copies of Arkham City. But smaller developers suffer from this trend. People have to stop this trend sometime so why not start now. Its only a five dollar difference between a new game and a used game. And by all means if you want to sell your games go for it just put that money towards the purchase of a new game and not a used one.

Explain to me how reselling used games at a vendor like Gamestop is a 'shady business', please. If they can make a profit, they will. Your argument isn't self-consistent if you say that Gamestop (or whomever) shouldn't be allowed to sell a game for a nice markup if the market will sustain the price, but think that game developers and publishers should charge you additional money to get access to content on a CD/BD/DVD etc you already paid for. Tell me, which of those is 'shadier'. I can return a game I vehemently hate within 7 days at most places, if I bought used. If I buy that game new for $60, guess what? I'm ****ed.

You've also overlooked the overall depreciation in game price. There are plenty of recent, but not just-released games I can get for a good $20 off new price. Maybe those games are just waiting to go into GOTY or Greatest Hits status, but until they do, they're at a significant premium over a used copy. If you don't think you're getting a good deal trading in a game for credit, then don't. Nobody's forcing you to. But saying their business is shady because you can't deal with it being an inherently losing proposition is ********.

I don't sell my games or trade them. I never put myself in a lose/lose situation like that. Yes there are pro's to trading in your games. Like being able to return them. That's why when I buy a game its not on a whim, I make sure I'm buying something that is worth the money, I read reviews and make sure that I will enjoy it so I'm not stuck with a shitty game. If you don't believe reselling a game and getting 20% of what you paid right after buying it isn't shady then your perspective is different than mine. Gamestop rips people off pure and simple. Yes they'll make a profit and continue doing it because people keep buying and selling but that doesn't make it okay. My problem isn't about gamestops business practices in general. Its about developers not getting money that they rightfully should when one copy of a game can be bought and sold 10 times over with gamestop making all the profit. Does that not seem shady to you? If you like being screwed then sell your games for a drastic loss, if that's your perogative. I choose not to. And as far as games depreciating in value yes the price of a used game will drop faster but a new copy will usually follow suit and drop as well. And yes on disc DLC isn't right either but in this situation its the lesser of two evils. And besides capcom, I don't see on disc DLC as a huge problem. Online passes are becoming prevalent but how is that shady? These companies have to make back a little off what they're losing to gamestop, so they get 10 bucks from the 60 they should rightfully get. That's a shitty deal for them. And gamestop thrives on this kind of back handed ********. Atleast the people that created it are getting that small profit and benefitting from it and will put it into making another game. Most DLC is created during initial development. And like I said the cost of making games rivals the costs of making movies, from a business perspective it would be ignorant not to create DLC during initial development. That's cost productive. Some companies ignorantly put it on disc. But trust that when you buy a game DLC is done and ready to be released even if it isn't on disc. But you don't have to have it either. And in most scenarios developers don't have DLC on disc. But that isn't developers being money hungry that's battling rising development costs. A company like gamestop that doesn't develop games yet reaps the rewards of games. And that could stop a sequel to a great game or a new IP from a great developer from being made is shady. If you dont think so I respectfully disagree. And the fact of the matter is most gamers that are younger or the parents of teenage gamers only see saving a few dollars and not the effect that buying used has on the companies that create these games. Their ignorance to this isn't their fault. But it is a damn shame and more gamers need to speak out against it. Listen I'm not telling anyone they shouldn't buy or sell used games. I'm just saying if you can spare the few extra dollars buy new games so profits go to who rightfully deserve them. A lot of people don't understand the effect this could have on the games industry and I'm just spreading the message.
