Batman: Arkham City

MW3 will probably be huge sales wise. A lot of the diehard CoD fans aren't really hyped for it as they now realize it is a carbon copy of MW2 plus new guns and story. I expect that game to be average at best, considering how much a blow IW as a company took in April of last year. Skyrim will definitely be great, probably a top contender. Rage, although good, doesn't appear to be getting great reviews, which isn't bad for a new IP. Rage might be up there. Uncharted will be, just knowing Naughty Dog. Battlefield 3 will likely tople MW3 in the long run as many of the CoD fans are checking that out and of course it's DICE, so it would be a shocker if BF3 sucked.

To be honest, I think GOTY is going to be a contest between Batman: Arkham City, Skyrim and Uncharted 3. I think MW3 will be average at best, Rage, although good, wasn't perfect, and Battlefield could be in the top, but who knows. Maybe even AC:R could be in the top, but I fear Ubisoft is going to run that series into the ground with its yearly releases, but at this point, it's too early to tell; should still be good.

All I know is that AC is going to be awesome and will likely be of the best games to come out this fall. My only concern is, how will Rocksteady top this game? They've done the Arkham based story twice now, even though AC is more like a regular Gotham, but still. Unless they pull something completely in left field, I don't see where they can go at this point. I trust them to make the right decision, but I don't know. The one place I think they could go is into the future with a Batman Beyond themed Gotham, which would be pretty cool, but might not do as well because only a certain group of people are aware of that Batman continuation.

Where do you think Rocksteady can/should go with their Batman series of games after this one?

Storywise I'd love to see them do Frank Miller's Dark knight returns or a variation on that. An older more grizzled Batmans last battles with the joker. But it might not translate as well as a game. The only logical next step would be full on Batman: Gotham City. The scope of that would be huge. Getting to drive the Batmobile and fly the Batwing through a fully realized gotham would be ridiculously awesome. When Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly took over Batman and Robin after Bruce Wayne died in Final Crisis they introduced some new villains and Dick Grayson as Batman Damian Wayne as robin. There's a million places they could go storywise but gameplay wise Gotham seems to be the next plateau.

Story wise, they could go with the comic story lines, but they are trying to avoid that. Rocksteady likes to craft their own story lines from the characters, which is much more flexible and original than the comic lines. At best, if they were to adapt a comic line, it would likely be as DLC in this game and not a sequel.

I'm sure Rocksteady has plans for a third game already as most studios have a plan for the next game once they hit the sequel. My hope is that this game feels complete at the end, and isn't a cliffhanger like some sequels. It just doesn't workout and I feel dissapointed that the game isn't finished with a cliffhanger, as if you just started the adventure and have to finish it in 2 years. Sort of like a lack of closure.

I don't know about vehicles. It's harder to do because you sacrifice the finer details which this game established, and then you would usually just be zipping from point A to point B rather than exploring and taking in all the details.

They're going to have to keep the free roam as they introduced it here, but I think that the full Gotham expansion in the next sequel is their next step.

You make a good point about the vehicles. Perhaps if they were mission based excursions rather than a means of transportation. A Batmobile escape mission similar to the big car chase in Batman: Begins would be epic! Rockstar does craft their own storyline but Arkham Asylum borrowed liberally from the graphic novel Arkham: A serious place, on serious earth. The whole Amadeus Arkham storyline and history of Arkham came from that. And the Asylum being taken over by the patients is borrowed from KnightFall. But I'm glad they do their own storylines and mainly draw inspiration from the comics and still respect the characters and mythos like they do. A lot of developers would just do their own take and not care about what came before the game. And end up bastardizing a great character and kill the essence of what made them a great character in the first place. They've found a happy medium of taking bits and pieces from the books and turning it into something fresh and new. I see them doing Batman: Gotham City and then wrapping it up after that. But here's a question if you could see RockSteady do another comic book franchise what would it be?

There were rumors running around that Rocksteady was considering doing a Superman game after they finish with Batman. I really don't think they should, however. Superman's a hard character to work with for games, just the whole mechanics of him. How do you balance him? Have everyone carry Kryptonite, or have Kryptonite guns? I think they should avoid Superman at all costs.

If I had to pick one character, however, I would like to see them attempt an Iron Man game. He's never really had a good game, or many games for that matter. They could play on his humanity and alcohloism, and that's where War Machine would come in. He could be balanced by a battery system used as health or a limiting system to weapons, with some sort of armor integrety for health.

But definitely, they shouldn't attempt Superman. He's just too risky. Iron Man could be cool, but he could also have some balance issues. I'd really like to see Rocksteady's take on a Batman Beyond universe or an Iron man game, but hopefully they finish off with Batman before they decide to leave him.

I would definitely like some sort of DLC themed around the Dark Knight Returns or Year One, especially since their costumes are included in the game already. Where is the Year One costume being distributed from, as it got announced and then I heard nothing about it.

I was hoping for a year one skin but I didn't see that one. Maybe its amazon or just later DLC. I personally would like to see Rocksteady do Green Lantern. Set the film aside because it was shit. If they took Geoff Johns take on Green Lantern and covered the whole war of the lanterns saga( sinestro corps war, rage of the red lanterns, agent orange and blackest night.) Would be epic. Superman just seems too unrelatable. All star superman was great it took superman and broke him down because he was dying. So he wasn't all powerful and couldn't just kick everythings ass. Plus he's more of a boyscout and I couldn't see them going from dark and gritty(batman) to bright and polished(superman). Hellboy,Wolverine,Suicide Squad or Teen Titans would also be cool to see done well. If they were gonna do a graphic novel that wasn't a super hero, Preacher or Y: the last man could be cool.
As for Iron Man, I've always been a fan and he deserves to have a great game. If they did it like an FPS they could limit ammo and have regenerating health that way you wouldn't be indestructible but still felt like a bad ass. It would be awesome to blow shit up as Iron Man in an Epicly done world, with good combat mechanics.

I getting the game once it comes out. Pre-ordered it at Gamestop. I will be on it non-stop, after work and stuff.

Story-wise in the future, I like to see something taking place in Neo-Gotham when Terry as Batman, goes up against Blight, Inque and Shriek at once. Plus, have a occasion run-in with the Jokerz gang. And gameplay, make it just like Arkham City, but add more options to the Batman Beyond abilities and gears.

And off-topic, Kyle. I put up new chapters to my Bloodsport War story. I'm currently almost done drafting the final chapter. Anyone else is interested, come check this link out:

There's already a Year One skin, but I think it's only available to the UK. We also have Sinestro Corps Batman with the Green Lantern Blu-ray, but that movie and costume weren't that great.

I never cared for Green Lantern. He always had a cool costume, but I don't know. Never liked the story or something. An Iron Man game or a Green Lantern game would be great though.

As for news, K-mart is offering a great deal for their version of PowerUp Rewards members. Buy Batman:Arkham City within the first week of release and receive a free $30 gaming coupon, plus a free t-shirt. Considering all the games coming out this fall, that coupon will come in real handy. I've already commited to Gamestop and the Joker challenge map+ Batman:TAS skin+ Batman: Gotham Knight. But for anyone who hasn't yet, K-mart sounds like the way to go econimcally.

Here's the site reporting it: http://www.gamertell.com/technology...man-arkham-city-offer-is-too-good-to-pass-up/

9 days to go!

i hope you can actually get health packs or some sort of health item in the game instead of having to win the next fight to get more life. it just sucks going to a boss fight with no health because there was no fight before him.

oh and mine is pre ordered and paid for. i cant wait.

mmm instead of that maybe regenerative health, but if the game will have the same health systems as AA it will be fine for me

I thought the health bar system was fine. And it regenerated after a few minutes, but yes, there were the ocassions early on where I went into a boss fight with little health, but that's where checkpoints come in handy.

To be honest, I prefer the health bar to the regen system anyday. It makes the game more difficult as you are limited to how much damage you can take rather than waiting a second and being fine. Besides, regen health is done so often these days that it is refreshing to have health bars. For me, Health bar over regen any day.

Health packs could be nice, but I don't know. I never had a problem with it in AA, so I don't see why they would be needed in AC.

I'm playing AA right now and loving it.

Love this part. Skip to 4:40 and then listen to it. I love it when Grodon says "I'm over here" and Harley throws the mug at him.

Batman just stays confident looking in while Harley is just messing with Jim is priceless, hope their's plenty of scenes like this in AC and then just walks away calmly is kind of cool and disturbing to just see whats happening and then leave like that

Yeah, I hope so as well. All three of them had terrific voice acting in that scene, which is what made it cool as well. I really am looking forward to this game, and to see where Rocksteady takes the story.

My fears have come to fruition. When asked what franchise Paul Dini (writer of Batman:Arkham City and many of the Timm-verse DC cartoons), he stated that his first choice would be Superman. This isn't really a surprise given the new 52 Superman and the fact that Dini's worked with Superman before. Also, the new Superman film hits next year, so popularity could pieque from that.

It would be interesting if Dini could make him more relatable than before, but I have many doubts on the gameplay. I think a good Superman game would be cool, but it is very hard to balance him, which is why his games haven't really been successful. I don't know. He also expressed interest in a Green Lantern game and a Captain Marvel game as well.

What do you think of this news? Would the team be able to pull it off? Would you even like the idea of a new Superman game given the poor history of previous games?

Discuss. 8 days as of tomorrow!

9 days and counting peeps its gonna be ****ing epic! I am not a fan of Superman except the grant morrison All Star run. So I really hope RockSteady does a Green Lantern game. And if your only exposure is the movie, I feel sorry for you. Go buy Geoff Johns Green Lantern: Rebirth trade and you'll be hooked. If Rocksteady started there and went into the Sinestro Corps war. It would be boss.
