Am I the only one who doesn't like any of the new characters??

Fans who want better representation of their favorite characters is not what I would consider a terrible concern. No one is seriously demanding that games like MK turn into a rainbow parade of diversity and understanding. The very LEAST that anyone has even remotely asked for is to simply design the women better. Jesus... NO ONE is trying to take videogames away from anyone and you know what? Thank GOD we're all starting to crawl out of the cesspool of 90s aesthetics. Cause all I'm seeing happening to the videogame landscape is more diversity and inclusion and developers trying to take their art MORE seriously than before. Sheesh. Do we REALLY want to go back to the vapid and shallow narratives of the 90s? Eh. Whatever. Lots of conservative gamers are just going to complain more and more about these so called SJWs and political correctness. All I can say is that gaming is slowly and surely and deliberately improving and leaving the antiquated and boring narratives behind. Thank god... seriously. THANK GOD.

Wow. I do not understand how this is turning into a whole discussion. I'm not saying that that sort of thing doens't belong in games. I was just saying how I don't want it in certain games. What a lot of people whining about 'representation' don't seem to understand is that not everybody is going to be represented in every game. That's what makes me frustrated. Seeing people swarm developers for 'representation' in a game - and then get it, and hate it. It's sad and funny all at the same time. You may "thank god" to see the landscape of games change - but I'd say that there's still a place for games that have "vapid and shallow 90's narratives". People seem to forget that games are a fantasy world -- and they're ya know, supposed to be fun. You say no one is trying to take games away? I disagree.

- I'm done de-railing this thread. Please continue if you want.

My opinions:

a) Character models are awesome, though I think Mileena coulda been wearing a bit less. She's still revealing, though maybe a little more would have been...... better? Jacqui, Sonya, Kitana, and Cassie are all well done. D'Vorah is probably naked.

B) as for political correctness..... I hate it for politically correctness. I don't really know how to explain it other than giving an example; One of my favorite anime characters, Bulat (Akame ga Kill, you should totally check it out) is gay, but he's not a Gay Character, he's a Character that is Gay. It's a part of who he is, but it's not his sole defining feature (unlike ALMOST EVERY gay character since the history of gay characters). Basically, a friend of his introduces him as "her gay friend", he hits on the main character a handful of times, and that's it; it's all just his character being awesome after that, no "Oh what does the Gay Guy Think?", it's always "What does Bulat think?". It's really hard to explain if that doesn't.

I don't hate gay characters, I hate stereotypes.

The landscape is changing indeed, but I promise you. No amount of SJW fans is ever going to take away Leisure Suit Larry. You forget that companies develop according to demographic analysis more than a bunch of people talking shit on twitter. They're simply responding to demand. That's not a problem, that's just them doing smart business. As far as the government taking away videogames... that's never. EVER. EVER. going to happen. Ever. It's just not. It doesn't matter how many irate gray hairs complain about videogames causing violence. NO ONE buys into that shit except for foolish people and their numbers aren't NEARLY large enough to change the way games are made. You all are terrified of absolute phantoms and paper tigers.

Political correctness isn't steriotypes though. I don't really see PC going on anywhere much in the media. Maybe in the news but... pffft. As far as entertainment goes, I see people telling more believable stories. Have you seen The Walking Dead? You have outright neo-nazi assholes who are virulent racists on that show and no one with any social clout is complaining. Those characters serve the narrative of the show and I don't think many people are seriously accusing Kirk of being a white supremacist.

From the otherwise entirely productive topic of The Marshall hating new characters? Hmm. ;)

LOL yeah you ain't kiddin'. I guess if there were any thread that it'd be okay to de-rail it's probably this one.

To the original poster: Yes, you are the only one. Most of the new characters are interesting. They will be even more interesting when the game comes out.

I think most of the new characters are really well done. The ones we have seen gameplay of seem to have had the time put into them so far. I don't like some o the returning characters, could of pushed maybe more 4 or even other MKT characters. But we all have characters we don't like thats the way it goes.

Kotal is growing on me. D'vorah is by far the most interesting of the bunch. Ferra/Torr could have potential, but I'm not seeing it. The rest of the characters are pretty bland.

I don't know what the word bland or generic means anymore in mortal Kombat but I will say that I think D'vorah will be just as iconic as MIleena for years to come ..hopefully they give her long hair.

Edit: hopefully the long hair doesn't make her look that attractive because prudes will say she looks like a slut and a bee lady shouldn't have human hair in a video game.

"Hereeeee's JOHNNY!!!!"

Yeah give her long hair and huge tits like all of the chicks in MK9

I like that they have diversity in MKX.

Well I admit I HATE many things in MK, but most things I hate are related to Jax and Sonya Blade being in the game, and Reiko, Havik, Tanya, Rain and Sektor not getting the attention they deserve, the new characters are mostly very very awesome.

From best to worst:

1) D'vorah, I love insects and I loved d'vorah even more in the comic when she used some maggot-creatures to clean the bullets from the wounds, I can see her grow in power with that amulet and summon swarms of horrid insects creatures to fight for her, i'm very curious what she does with that amulet! By far D'vorah is my favorite new character, as i'm really a fan of insect creatures. (not in real life though, I squash them if they sleep in my bed)

+ New type of creatures other than Humans are always fun in MK! This is one of the best in years!
+ More than awesome design
+ New Race
+ Insects Powers
+ Cool insects healers in comic
+ Cool abilities
+ Awesome brutality and fatality so far
- Hoped she had more bug like abilities in her special moves, those whirlwind bees don't cut it for me
- If she turns into another simple traitor and is a try to replace Tanya

2) Kotal Kahn, this one won my heart over in the comics many times, I already loved his design (never played that horrid boring game tekken with its generic characters, so what the f is everybody talking about a guy named ogre? Last time I checked that character I didn't seee anything I liked in Ogre and a lot in Kotal) I love Kotal's strong role and he will be the reason i'm watching the youtube storymode with little hope the story doesn't suck and be all about special boring forces.

+ Awesome design
+ New creature, I love new creatures in MK
+ AWESOME brutal comic appearance
+ Not generic badguy
+ Neutral Guy
+ Awesome team
+ Respectable appearance
+- Rather bland fatality, but still suiting
- All this talk about Tekken makes me sick, but that isn't kotals fault.

3) Ferra/Torr, very interesting concept and I love such strange concepts! Small girl like pygmy riding atop a giant! I'm loving it! Maybe not original for some who watch too many movies, but I never recall seeing such a thing before in a fighting game and I love the new flavor.

+ Original design
+ New type of creature (pygmy)
+ Love their gameplay
+ Love their blade-filled outfits, armed to the tooth gets a new meaning
+ Duo character
+ Annoying voice will annoy many people, I love it
+ Everybody else seem to hate them, which is a good thing
+ Ed Boon's favorite together with D'vorah, so they probably get Scorpionized in the future and don't simply die
+ Another cool member of Team Kotal
- If generic lackies in story

4) Erron Black, while I don't like gun characters, his mystic, mysterious and enigmatic design lure me into his character. While I know nothing of him yet, i'm already in love, THOUGH I kinda wished he wore a tiger-stripe bandana from the comic, and not that ninja-like brown mask. Still one of the better designs in a LONG time.

+ Design
+ Cowboy stuff
+ Enigmatic and mysterious character
+ Black Dragon connection
+ Really makes the picture of Kotal's team seem very cool and diverse
- If he only uses his gun with no special powers whatsoever
- If he's really Sonya's father

5) Kung Jin, I just love bows and never cared for the Nightwolf one (he's more about spirits, axes, animals, plants and rituals, not about bows), and Kung Jin is the first to do fatalities with it! At first I hated the though of another liu kang in MK, but this dude really rocks with his arrows, can't wait to see his moves.

+ Bow
+ Bow
+ Bow
+ Awesome fatalities as far as i've seen
- Descendant
- HORRID name, really so much possibilities, why Kung Jin?
- Special Forces

6) Takeda, really like Kenshi having a son, one of the only characters I like having offspring for some reason. Just hope he doesn't have telekinesis like his father and plays too much like scorpion, his omega red like whips are so extremely awesome, I had to put him above Cassie.

+ Whip
+ Whip
+ Whip
+ Son of Kenshi
+ Silent type of guy
+ Gives Scorpion a purpose beyond revenge
- In Special Forces
- If he's telekinesis
- If he's too much of Scorpion

7) Cassie Cage, while I hate her mother with passion, cassie steals the show with her cool attitude and lovely humor. I hate selfies, but that fatality made me laugh so freaking hard! I hope she replaces Sonya (not johnny though, I kinda grew on him) in the future, that stupid trigger-happy bores me beyond anything else (well spare for jax), the only thing they can do wrong with cassie cage is if they make her kill Havik or Reiko, which is not only super stupid as they live many more years than a simple human, but also stupid as many people will hate her for doing that, she already killed Mavado...

+ Very nice attitude
+ Cool intro talks
+ bubblegum and making fun of selfies
+ Spoiled child, reminds me of myself
+- reasonable design, bit bland though
- Together in game with mother
- Special Forces
- Bland outfit
- Boring special moves
- Gun

20) Jacqui, really, what good can Jax do ? NOthing, his child will be just as annoying probably, i'm not even willing to give her a chance, she is the one offspring TOO much, could have been a cool other new character, but no, jax had to f somebody and create that boring daughter... it's one thing they brought Jax back, why his bland looking daughter? If she has sektors firethrower she will be on my ultimate hate list with Jax and Sonya.

- Jax Daughter
- Bland design
- Bland costume
- ALSO in special forces
- One offspring too much, destroys the hype for the others.

It looks like you haven't learned anything from the bans you've gotten.

So, you blatantly criticize a popular character & expect no censure in return?

I stated that you using such flawed logic in your posts made you look foolish. I fail to see how this is 'breaking rules' or how it has anything to do with me being banned in the past, so I don't know why you keep bringing it up? Quite pathetic.

Besides, I couldn't care less about conforming to the so-called 'rules' on this forum, especially since they only apply to certain people & only certain people get punished.

I really find these kinds of topics to be funny. The reason why is that they're giving us a weird new bunch of characters ,after having been told that the fans want newer characters, and they're still getting hated upon. I don't understand what exactly will actually please people. And I get that you can't please everyone, but still. I just find this thread funny because you haven't experienced these new characters yourself and they're immediately getting the cold shoulder.

And I know you're gonna play as them even if you say you're not. You are. You most definitely will be playing them :-P

Because Icebaby, (it is so hard to see? geez) people love the characters, they can tell by design only if they like it or not, sometimes their moves, powers and other stuff help in loving a character, but the race, appearance, design, costume help people make their FIRST connection with the characters.

And many people dislike the though of descendants, more Special Forces and human characters, and with that being in the game pretty much overbalanced, no wonder people complain about 4 of the 8 new characters. They are all

1) from special forces
2) descendants
3) Still have their parents fighting with them in the game.

That is asking for trouble

if it was for me, I would give Sonya a child cassie and turn Sonya into DLC, Takeda son of Kenshi, and VERY different from his father, still both could be playable, I would make Kung Jin a non descendant and give him another name, even turn him into Kai which he seems to replace a bit, and then cut everything about Jacqui and give a evil character a descendant instead.

Everyone keep this thread on topic and stop the personal insults. Or I'm closing it and issuing lifetime bans. I'm completely sick of everyone attacking everyone over each other's opinions. Debate is fine, but what I'm seeing here is far from debate by many members.
