What in the world are you talking about? Looks has nothing to do with how much a character is played. It's all based on their gameplay. I really didn't care for Kitana's look, but did that stop me from playing her? Absolutely not. You have to be some sort of dummy to not play a character based solely on the appearance of a character instead of basing it on its gameplay.

That mentality really only translates over to competitive players. Scorpion's gameplay in MK9 was pretty gimmicky, he mostly relied on his vortex. But he was still the most used character in the game on a casual level.

I don't consider myself a dummy for not using a character based on their appearance. If aesthetics didn't matter then every character would be a wireframe. If anything, it lead me to maining many more characters in MKX. There are so many designs that I like, so I try out everyone. I literally only picked up Quan Chi because when he uses his trance on Jax, he says "Is there a problem, Jax?" And he became my top dog main for months lol

Meh, to me I just don't see appearance being an up or down for me to play a character, especially if the wardrobe or the look of a character has any effect on gameplay. If it doesn't personally effect anything with gameplay, it's not that big of a deal to me. I mean, I despised Sub-Zero's Deception costumes, yet I still played the crap out of him.

Maybe "dummy" was a poor choice of word to use, but I do think it's silly to sit here and say as a fact that the main reason why Ferra Torr is one of the least played characters is due to their appearance. That's just downright not even true. Might for some, but it's not the primary reason.

I liked it at first, but then it just grew "blah" to me the more I played it. I think it was all due to his secondary. That I know he's partially bald underneath that helmet.

Same here.
I also despised the "Shredder" Sub-Zero look in Deception, but it didn't stop me from using him.

As for the reason why people may not like Ferra / Torr as much, it may also be for the same reasons that I don't normally use characters like Ferra / Torr, Goro and Jax, because they're slow power characters.
I'm pretty sure that if Goro, Jax and Ferra / Torr were all rush-down characters with a better balance of safe and unsafe moves, more people would play as those characters more often.
Sure, the punch walk looks nice and can be effective, but you can see it coming from a mile away, and if your opponent simply jumps over it, you get left wide open to be punished.
The thing is, most people either love offensive or defensive characters, but they don't care as much for the slower / power characters.
How many people in Injustice placed Deathstroke VS how the people who played as Bane?
And why?
Because Deathstroke has a machinegun move that has a quick frame-rate and that they can use online, so more people pick up that character in hopes of using those quick moves to get an easy win online.
The same goes for MK9 Scorpion.
MK9 Scorpion has a gimmicky spear, Teleport and flame move in MK9, which can all be rinsed and repeated in combination with the vortex, and can be deadly, when he's in the hands of the right player.
The start up frames for the Spear, Teleport and flame move are SUPER quick to pull off, and MK9 Scorpion is probably the easiest character for any MK n00b to start to play as and eventually master, compared with the rest of the MK9 roster.

that's how you feel and I get that, however, there is another group of people that need the character's appearance to call out to them to be interested in them in the first place. the reason why those two are hated massively is their design, not their playstyle

I choose characters because of how they look...

... AND how they play.

If I think a character looks cool, I will do what I can to be (somewhat) good with that character. If I just can't get used to the gameplay though, then I will have it as a secondary. That's how I feel about Vega from Street Fighter. I suck at charge-gameplay characters, so him changing to a a motion-gameplay character in SFV is the best thing, imo!

But yeah, a character's looks need to be appealing to me before I want to play as them. I am no competitive player though, so BLP's statement about what regards those could be right.

Edit:
Oh, btw, on-topic...
No character deserves to return. That's humanizing fictional characters, as if they've done something good that gives them a free pass onto the roster of the next game. That's not how it works. It's a mix of demand and supply and who the devs favourize. If there's a character they don't want on the roster, it's not getting on the roster. If they think a character won't get them any cash, it won't get on the roster.

Never been a big fan of Sindel, or Kang / stryker player, but just bring all of them back with 1 variation, the system is nice for a change, but imho more characters would have been better, so just all of them.

Let's say that in the MK story, Kitana returns back to life and Jade remains dead.

I hope Kitana would have a variation where she'd summon Jade's spirit and attack the opponent while using Jade's staff. Kind of like Kenshi's "Possessed" variation. I got this idea from Chizuru Kagura and Maki Kagura from King of Fighters.

Though I really hope Jade stays alive this time.
