Guess I'm actually going to be buying DLC for this game. Was waiting to see who the 4th character was because Rain looked "meh" at best.

I am a HUGE horror buff
I hate remakes so I didn't see the new Nightmare.
I wont spend my money on a non MK character but I will purchase the comp pack so others can use him
I think it would've been wiser to release Freddy as a Halloween gimmick in Oct and maybe Jason aswell so we could have battles (Freddy v. Jason=horrible movie)

[edit] slowly moving in the direction of "yes" to Freddy.

Guys, please don't be asinine and avoid the Compatibility Pack.

At first I was on the fence on this idea, but I mean besides how much more effort they obviously put into these fatalities stacked on to how freaking long they are, he's an excellent addition to the MK9 cast! Gotta say, his Win Animation is pretty bad ass, although is entrance reminds me to much of Scorpion/Baraka.

Nope, MK is about fighting. The gore is just a gimmick that's been used to draw attention. Much like Freddy is a gimmick being used to draw attention now.

Anyway, after watching the trailer a few more times I think I'm coming around. NOES is part of my childhood and I'd be lying if I said part of me wasn't keen to try Freddy. I admit NR did do a satisfying job with him. The other part of me...well everyone knows that one already.

Look at the schedule we had this year.

1 Addition, 2 Returning Fighters, and 1 Guest.

Don't give up hope for the next cycle :)

In terms of style, Freddy does fit in. He's dark and you can see his personality when he kills.

ONE problem though is that do to the fact that he has a long series of movies, we know a lot about him, his past, and his methods. I have a feeling fights are going to be centered around him, unless, you know, all the noobs pull him down to the status of Scorpion.

He doesn't really appeal to me. If he has an alt that resembles the Original Freddy that I grew up on, then I'll consider him. For now, I'll download the comp pack.

ehhh i disagree, respectfully, of course.

while MK is a fighting game (obviously), the thing that sets it apart from every other game in its genre is its renown goriness.
 
Can anyone sum up Fredy's story? Never saw the movies.

I gotta say, his grab and specials look pretty bad ass.

Also it was pretty lame how the Reveal trailer started off. Slow mo of some fighters' entrances. LAME.

From what I remember, (I haven't seen the movies since I was young) he was a pedophile (janitor?) who was attacked by the townspeople and died in a boiler accident/explosion. Years later, he comes back to take revenge on the children of the townspeople. I may have a few details off, but that should be the basic idea.

An entrance that I would have really liked: Freddy walks in scraping his "nails" on a metal railing (or the ground/wall, depending on the stage) with sparks flying around him.

Edit: By the way, I don't remember him ever kill children. They were all teenagers or young adults.

Freddy Kreuger was a pedophile that raped and murdered children. When he was found innocent on the charges due to technicalities the parents in the town took justice into their own hands and burned Freddy alive. Years later when their children were teenagers Freddy would haunt and murder the children of the parents that murdered him in their dreams

Yep pretty much. Although the pedophile aspect was played on more in the remake than the originals where it was more subtle. But, hey that's how the story was originally supposed to be anyways.

Yeah it definitely helped define MK's identity, but what I meant is the gore was created to draw attention, so it's a gimmick. Not that I don't like it, on the contrary MK wouldn't be the same without it. But it had no other use outside of what I said, unlike other aesthetics in the game.
