Any brand new character really should be saved for the next one, but I really want cyber smoke, and cyber reptile (the oone from the challenge tower will be fine, or even a new mock up... it doesn't matter)

I doubt it's a new character. The demand for older characters is too high, especially considering the fact that everything on MK9 is considered 'new', so it would be nice to see older, fan-favorite characters come back with new models, moves, fatalities, look, etc. I don't really see a new character jumping in and fitting in afterward. Then again I could be totally wrong. But, it always seems like when they come up with new characters, it's some garbage, cookie-cutter copycat character with a new look and a different name. If they are going to make a new character, put some effort into it.

Im going to have to agree with this guy....The demand is too high for older characters and couldnt see them adding a new character...Although if it were up to me I'd like to see a new character. Ya Matt I see what your saying about the newer MK characters how they seem like "cookie cutter" characters but at the same time I think it is possible for them to come up with new original designs, story, fighting styles, fatalities andd all that other stuff because the tech is better than its ever been and they havnt had to come up with new character for awhile now and Im sure after all these years they have plenty of good new kombatant ideas floating around.

While it is sadly true that a lot of the post-UMK3 characters got pretty derivative and uninspired, most of those games (Deadly Alliance, Deception, Armageddon) were really rushed out. If NRS took their time and actually put some effort into the characters I think they could make some cool new characters. Hell, I think that most post-UMK3 characters are worth salvaging if NRS actually puts in some time with them. Even with time though, Kobra will still be lame lol. =P

So it looks like the 4th DLC character WILL be someone new....

From today's Xbox Season Pass press release said:
"The first Mortal Kombat downloadable warrior, Skarlet, will be available for download starting June 21st and will be followed by Kenshi, Rain, and an unannounced new entrant to the Mortal Kombat tournament!"

seriously though, I'm torn between cSmoke, guest and new character. I hope for new character right now and also to get cSmoke in fall

Really all we need for DLC:

1) Kenshi: best character post MKT. Amazing story.

2) Rain: complete the MKT cast.

3) Cyber Smoke: complete the MKT cast.

4) Fujin: I want to see another god aside from Raiden.

Skarlet, Reiko, etc are all fine. But I don't see the potential for a great moveset in them as I do in the four characters I mentioned above. Psychic sword manipulation, water manipulation, wind manipulation, and MK9 Smoke on cyber steroids.

I don't even think they know who the last character will be. They're probably playing around with a few different ideas, but nothing concrete. Or at least I don't think so.

Ed Boon said that they've already worked on and decided on the 4 DLC characters at E3. Plus, I doubt WB would let us pre-order a character that they haven't even decided on yet. Or maybe I'm just naive. Gotta be one of the two. Anyways, I'm pretty sure they're just keeping the new character a mystery to build up hype for them; NinjaBoy66 said that details on the unannounced character will be coming in a few weeks.


Besides, they're releasing this character in the summer along with Rain and Kenshi, and from what I know, it takes a couple of months for a character to be finished up, so they would have to start working on them at least a month from now in order to get them ready for a summer release.

And who is Ninjaboy?

Anyway... Ed Boon says a lot of things. So don't think his word is always solid. But you may be right. I don't know. I just get the feeling that the ??? character isn't even officially decided on. They probably have it narrowed down to one or two characters, though.
