Does Jade have no fans?

p.W. speaks truth. It's okay for people to get defensive over Jade, but he really did hit the nail on the head. Though I must admit that I wish he would weigh a little bit more on how he feels about Kitana or her past iterations anyway. I agree with him. I too feel like the MK9 bikini designs are lazy low hanging fruit. They lacked the imagination to make all of the female ninjas unique and interesting, so they opted to cake on the heteronormative sex appeal and let it ride. At least with mk9 they did. I dig the assessment. Though I have to admit that I disagree with him a bit on the current Kitana. It's still very skimpy, but I think I've come to accept that NRS just wants to use the female ninjas as sex appeal for the game and there's just nothing around it. Their minds are made up about that I think. At least there's Cassie, Sonya, Ferra/Tor, and D'vorah.

MK females always looked sexy. MKII they were, IMO, the more "conservative" on their outfits.

MK3 they also looked sexy, but not exaggerated appealing.

The games evolved, and they got more details. Stil, Mileena was the most appealing on her costumes, and was already ridiculous (her primary MK:D is not that ridiculous).

The point is: NOBODY goes to fight to the death like that. Unitl MK9, I found just Mileena's alternate outfit an exaggeration.

Other were weird, could have been better.

But MK9 took it to another level. Absurd stripper sexual appealing costumes that on shot could kill. Besides the fact that was a lazy unnecessary sexual appeal. And it was sexual appeal for sure, when you have a military with boobs exposed, waiting for a bullet, and the prize for 300 challenges was naked Mileena on toilet paper.

I'm very happy that they realized that they are there to fight, they can look sexy, but not forgetting they are there to fight, so, no bikinis.

Do any of you remember when we knew the Challenge Tower actually had a reward for the last mission? NRS Team confirmed it saying the award was fricking awesome and everyone would love it... I mean... the funny thing was that everyone was expecting Motaro, or playable bosses, or even unlock some arcade game, but no... it literally was Mileena in toilet paper... Sometimes I wonder if the NRS Team member ever got laid in their entire life. It is NOT normal adult men expecting people to actually like that kind of award, it was STUPID beyond belief.

I too dislike Kitana's alt, and her Mournful variation is a disaster...

And it wasn't even a human woman in toilet paper, it was a hideous female monster with yellow eyes and teeth like needles. I don't know about you guys but for me that's big turn off.

Agreed.

Disagreed, fully. I think it's a great idea. Hell, I thought it'd be a way to keep both Jade and Kitana fans happy. I saw Boon respond to a tweet from a fan today saying that they weren't going to buy the game because Jade isn't in it. IMO fans like that make us all look bad. Like whiny babies throwing a temper tantrum for no reason

I agree, I love the idea of Kitana using Jade's weapons. The fact that she can now throw the Glaive in mid-air... oh, the mix-ups are endless lol!!! While I like Kitana and her variations overall, this will be one of the first ones I try out for sure.

Seems like no one here is really in an uproar that Jade was deconfirmed

I love Jade. She is my second main in MK9. I'm a little upset she won't be in MKX, but Kitana has her move-set, and according to NRS, that variation is similar to Jade's moves in MK9. I have a feeling her Player 2 color will be a bit green rather than blue.

She had fans in MK2, but it was later replaced with a staff... *badum tish*

But seriously, Jade is my #1 favourite MK character. I have made peace of her not being in MKX though. Though her popularity spiked up in MK9, it was clearly not enough. I remember back when she was announced to be in MKD. I was uber-thrilled! But everyone else were all "Why is she in the game? She's just a bad Kitana copy! No one likes her!".

Kitana and Mileena were always alot more popular than Jade, even in MK9. They have a greater following amongst the MK fanbase. And Jade has always been a secondary character when it comes to the story. Because of this, I accepted a long time ago that Jade would most likely not make it into MKX as a playable character. And I think other Jade fans have accepted that too.

Jade was awesome in MK9, imo. But I think it is time for other characters to get some spotlight, particularly another favourite of mine: Tanya.

I'm a jade fan (story and look, gameplay hell no), and yes, I've accepted she won't be, i even desired it, because there must be characters which haven't had a good chance... However I think it's a creative way to include her in spirit in Kitana, i bet there will be even a green suit for her... But even if this benefits jade, it destroys Kitana, and I'm really angry with that

I do think they should give her P2 a green tint, if not outright green. Not like it'll be confusing for some.

Sadly, they already have given in to the bullshit pressure from the fans.
Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Raiden, Quan Chi, Kano, Kitana, Kung Lao, Reptile, Ermac, Goro.
Plus, Sonya, Johnny, Liu Kang, Mileena and Jax are rumored to also be in.

Ah but in the case of Quan Chi he has a lot to contribute to story. Just look at the major roles he's had. I'm curious about you though. I think you've said before that Sub Zero is your favourite. How would you honestly feel if he was excluded? Especially considering this new variation system he could have missed out on (in some strange alternate universe where he's missing from the roster).

Sub-Zero is my favorite character gameplay wise (Noob-Saibot story), and I honestly feel if he wasn't such a series icon he really shouldn't be in this game. Scorpion, yes he should. Netherrealm War and all. But IMO Sub-Zero should've stayed dead for this game... but that was never gonna happen obviously.

Maybe I'm the only one who felt like the MK2 and MK3 looks were both attractive and made sense for a martial arts tournament. A leotard with boots and gloves makes sense. And yet the female ninjas STILL showed skin then, but it was something I could believe a female combatant would wear and I must admit that I think the actors had a little say in what their costumes were going to look like, thus why the female ninjas never looked like strippers UNTIL they went IIRC, past MK4. I think part of the design flaw is that they think the female characters HAVE to look pretty in some way to be appealing. Yet we have characters from other games such as the rebooted Tomb Raider where the woman is in jeans, a tank top, and boots and I would say with full confidence that NONE of the female ninjas of MK hold a candle to Laura Croft in terms of attractiveness. I'm hoping that if Frost is in the game, she's functionally covered and combat ready as Cassie and Sub Zero. And really... a female ninja doesn't have to be half naked to look attractive. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/7e/b3/47/7eb347bb67109ab9b3957e213adb7222.jpg is a great example of attractive without having to resort to being skimpy. I'm convinced this is where Kitana's design was inspired. But why NRS felt that a female assassin should show more skin than the inspiration is beyond me. How does having most of your skin exposed make you more stealthy? How does it help conceal her in the shadows? But whatever. All I can say is that even though her costume is a huge improvement, they still have I think a long way to go before they can convince me that they take the female fighters seriously. Cassie, again, is an amazing step in that direction though. I love her.

Sex sales. Netherrealm Studios knows that most of their fans are likely men and what do men like seeing? Sexualized women. It may sound chauvinistic but it is true. The women in the game, including the ones with less human-looking featuress like Mileena and Sheeva, have always been that way. I think Ashrah might be the only exception. I'm usually the type that says, "If it isn't broken, there's no need to fix it." However, if they truly are going in a different route with character models, I think they should at least have one or two characters that remain true to the "temptress" fashion because it won't completely piss off older fans who like seeing it and new fans won't have as many gripes about it.

I have one major issue I have with Ibuki being linked with the word "attractive".

How old is she? I seem to have read in her game bios that she is a school girl, which is practically jail bait.

Well you bring up a valid point. My question then is a decent one I think. We're talking about female characters in videogames being attractive. But I have to wonder why their ability to be attractive or be sexy is necessary at all when it comes to designing them. I can almost guarantee that when they design male characters, their ability to be attractive to women and homosexuals does not factor into their design. "We need to make Liu Kang and Scorpion more sexually appealing. Liu Kang MUST be shirtless so that the women gamers and the bi/gay gamers have something to gaze on and fantasize about." Yeah... that just doesn't make any sense.

And as for Ibuki. I don't know how old she is. I suspect maybe somewhere between 16-18.

Japan... yeah. I mean, it's not like SF is entirely innocent of using sex to sell a product. FatalityFitness is unfortunately correct in his assessment, but I'm glad he acknowledges that the fan base is changing and for what it's worth, I think NRS is trying to make amends and to no alienate their fans. I think the change is for the better. The change isn't as immediate as I'd prefer, but it's a much better step in the right direction as opposed to what we got in MK9.

Frost's primary in the OT was pretty good. But then it was just a rather generic Lin Kuei garb.

Slightly Off-Topic, but if Frost were to return, I'd love to see her return as a rehabilitated Special Forces agent. With an angry streak of course.

If all they were planning on doing was to give Kitana some of Jades moves why not just include Jade in the first place? And this whole Cassie Cage thing is just ridiculous why not just create new characters without them having to be a relative of someone else like Kotal Khan.

Im excited to play this but I kinda feel like NRS should've went with an adventure game before taking on another mk sequel
