New interview from E3 with Polygon:

One of the tidbits: Boon says Mortal Kombat X will have a roster at least as big as the last Mortal Kombat — which shipped with nearly 30 fighters — and that "obviously" downloadable characters will follow.

So we're probably looking at closer to 30, rather than 24/25.

I am willing to bet that Hotaru and Havik will make it in since they were the best designed characters and Deception and would make for interesting movesets on a 2.5D plane

i think kano is in it too. but it will be the MK 3 kano with bald head coz he has aged. this fits better with the timeline and i like the mk3 kano better with the glowing knives

I'm saying anyone HUMAN (from earth realm), probably won't be as present on the roster, but maybe in the story mode as a cameo. That being said, I do think Cage and Kano make a return.

I'm so positive that Johnny cage will make it on .Boon said that we will pick up where we left off and then there will be a five year time jump and a couple of more time jumps.No way did they let Cage survive MK9 to kill him off before playing him in the next game.

^ They will keep him alive long enough to get it on with Sonya before killing him off. They there is a good chance we may see many cameos from MK9 and some post MK3 characters if they wish to stay true to the story.

Well I just hope that my new favorite duo (Noob & Smoke) are in, I don´t think Cage and Sonya will be in, I think they are going to be just cameo.

Someone like Noob-Smoke from MKD will actually be a great character - 1 style - Noob Saibot, 2nd - Smoke, 3rd - Noob-Smoke as a duo.
This way two characters who don't have enough moves on their own, but are actual fan favorites can have a chance to appear. Like Baraka/Mileena or Rain/Tanya - i'am sure most fans will love to see them and they make sence as fighting duos.
Or maybe each variantion can use different character model, with slightly different movesets, like Sareena/Jattaka/Kia trio from Myth.

Yeah would be cool, but I prefer both be each own character, Imagine how the fighting styles would be, I think Noob will be Back because of Shinnok.

As Noob Saibot fan, i will love him to come back, but at the same time, too many ressurections is a bad thing, cause it null effect MK9 events. And i'm ready for bigger number of new characters.

I'd like to see a Kia and Jataaka should have that Noob-Smoke vibe duo instead! One style is Kia, the other style is Jataaka, and the third style is Kia and Jataaka. Sareena should be her own character since she has her own motives.

Kia and Jataaka = Juli and Juni (Street Fighter) = Mature and Vice (King of Fighters)

Sareena = Cammy (Street Fighter) = Shermie (King of Fighters)

There's a guarantee 1 more character aside from scorpion and subzero is returning because Ed boon said the final boss in this game was"a supprising returning character" so that shao Kahn is out of the question

3 returning is not enough. The game needs more star power than that.

Popular characters will most certainly come back, I do feel however this is the time for MK4 characters to make their debut next-gen:
- Shinnok, Quan Chi, Reiko, Tanya, Meat, Jarek, Kai and Fujin should be featured in X. They're just 8, so there is enough space for both new characters and old school veterans...
