Okay, so many people consider Liu Kang and Ryu to be alike for the following reasons:
-Both are easy to play but difficult to master
-Both can be considered the main character
-Both are considered the "Jack of All Trades, Master of None" in their respective series
The bolded point therein lies my problem. Now, I most definitely consider Ryu to be the most balanced character in SF, as he can generally deal with all tactics.
-Projectile Wars (HADOOOOKEN!)
-Jump-Ins/Anti Air (SHORYUUUKENNNN!) -Zoning (Tatsumaki/Hurricane Kick)
However I don't find Liu to possess the same tools. His fireball is viable, sure. But look at his Bicycle Kick. If blocked, it can be punished far to easy, same for his Flying Kick.
To be honest I don't consider Liu Kang to be the protagonist at this point (due to the sheer amount of branching storylines in 2011), not to mention his not so all-around moveset.
So who would you consider the true Jack of All Trades in MK 2011. Personally I'd give the award to Nightwolf, he has pretty much a Special move for any situation, even giving you two options for Projectile spam: Arrows or Reflector. I find him to far more be the Ryu stereotype than Liu Kang.
What do you think?
