Liu Kang/Ryu Comparison

@Ninja - Precisely! Let's not forget that this isn't about who's better, it's about who would consider equally as balanced. If you find Liu Kang to better than Ryu or vice versa, more power to you. But this isn't the thread for that and I appreciate Ninja pointing this out.

So once again I ask, who would you find MOST WELL EQUIPPED to deal with all players? Try to stay on topic this time guys.

I am willing to keep this thread open, for the OP did not intend for it to be a flamefest, but I ask you peeps to please make sure you keep it cool, avoid the flaming and have an intelligent discussion so I don't have to close the thread.

Thanks, dudes and dudettes =)

Thank you very much Jade. I really just wanted a general outlook on who everyone believed to be the most balanced in the game, someone with an all around moveset.

I appreciate it and wish to keep the discussion cool as an ice cube and free of flames. ^_^

I would almost say Scorpion is more Ryu-ish, gameplay wise, as long as you are talking SOLELY on the fact that they can deal with anything thats headed their way.

Crazy as it sounds I'd have to say sindels style is really close to ryus she's got the fireball and a leaping uppercut but as far as ballance goes I'd have to say cyrax is damn well balanced minus the traps he has until nrs patches um

ryu - cute
liu kang - sexy <3

Precisely, I could agree that he does have tools to deal with every situation, as I'm assuming you'd count his Teleport Punch as Anti-Air?

I guess you skipped over the key words "Jack of All Trades"? He is talking Nightwolf from a gameplay standpoint; a well-rounded character with tools for every situation.

Yeah I did skip it. Sorry guys"/.

Everyone is better as a hero than Liu Kang IMO but NRS choosed him from the beggining and thats what we got. NVM i dont think that Liu Kang is the hero even Nightwolf a character i dont like and i never play i think is more hero than liu kang. just what i think, dont want to start a character battle.
I never though LK as a hero just another character I rarely use.

I am basing the facts on story tho. I am not good at discussing about gameplay but how kan you tell if a fighter is a hero by the way they play?

Not to mention that I feel Nightwolf and Liu played equally beneficial roles in MK 2011. Liu Kang won a tournament, and Nightwolf saved Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade from Sindel who killed almost everyone. I'd call it about even, as the narrative couldn't advance without either events taking place.

I think Liu Kang was one of the main heroes there. He did all the work. He saved earthrealm twice and talked Kitana into good. If it wren't for Liu Kang the 2nd tournament would of not happened and the invasion wouldn't happen either. I do have to admit, Nightwolf is very heroric but IMO I still think Liu Kang is more of a hero than Nightwolf is. To me Nightwolf was the hero in the invasion, along with Raiden.

Do you understand what I am trying to say here dude?

EDIT: Sorry if that was off topic.

@Aldo Moreno - I can definitely agree with you on that. From a storyline standpoint, Liu is proven to be the main hero, so I'll give you that. However I also agree that I don't think you can decide if someone's a hero from their moveset, however I'm sure you can tell if someone's a villiain from their moveset.

I mean, look at Quan Chi. Green skull projectiles. Not so righteous to me XD

Liu Kang is just a stereotype in what is a genre filled with stereotypes.

He's the Bruce Lee clone, probably the most common of stereotypes in fighting games.

Liu Kang, Fei Long, Law etc.

Liu Kang is a hero:).
Yeah thats what I was thinking kause I didn't know characters kan be judged a protagisnt by their playstlye.

Lol but who was the 1st? Who started the Bruce Lee trend?

Bruce Lee had imitators long before video games. After his death there were many knock-off films produced with actors that took on stage names that sounded similar to the real Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee clones in fighting games are more or less a byproducts of his fame. Mortal Kombat did not need to be in the picture for that to happen.

Who came first though, Fei Long or Liu Kang?

Moveset wise, Kano's and Ryu's zoning are very similar.

Ryu has Hadouken, Kano has Knife Throw.
Ryu has Shoryuken, Kano has Vertical Canon Ball.
Ryu has Air Tatsu, Kano has Air Canon Ball.

I find Liu Kang to be very different from Ryu. The power of Ryu resides in his ability to adapt while Liu Kang uses his speed to mess up his opponents. In the SF world I would compare Liu to Vega, while in the MK world I would compare Ryu to Sub-Zero. In my opinion, SubZero is very versatile. Nightwolf also has the ability to adapt to every situation but in a very different way (projectile reflection, etc...)
