Raiden in Story Mode

....kind of a dick, isn't he?

Not sure if that was the intention, but it seems like everything he does in story mode ends up making things worse for everyone involved to the point where it sort of makes everyone following him look like a tool for staying around.

I hated how everything ended up because of that dickhead... If there is an MK10, NRS will have to make nearly an entirely new cast.

No way it was Liu Kang that was the dick Raiden did his best. But Liu Kang just assumed he was the chosen one and got himself killed for it.

I hope everyone returns but like humans (or tehir respective race, cryomancer, edenian, enenra...) not as wraith or darker versions.

To me neither were dicks. The situation was just bad. Liu became like that to Raiden (understandably) because all his friends just died and it seemed like Raiden's actions were just making matters worse. But, since we see what Raiden sees (flashbacks and such), it's hard to call him a dick because he was just trying his best to prevent Armageddon.

What I find funny is that everything still went according to cannon, except for a few people dying.
My thoughts exactly, I was so pissed when Kung Lao got the axe and Sub-Zero became Cyber SZ. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of the main story line with the next installment.

/facepalm
Smoke stays human.
A LOT of people die.
Sub-Zero is turned into a cyborg.
Raiden receives messages from his future self.
Just in the story from MKI-MKT, Quan Chi didn't exist, neither did Shinnok.
In terms of just the arcade endings I've seen, nor did Fujin or Havik.
Skarlett has never existed.
And my inner Grammar Nazi needs to inform you that it in "canon" in that usage.

EDIT: Also, Jax's arms were completely replaced.
I don't think that the Black Dragon sold weapons to the Outworld army.

^The only exception is, these characters did exist during those times. They were just yet to be introduced into the games. In case the common sense logic of, "these characters weren't just born in the games they debuted in" doesn't suit your epistemological needs, then you can see easily in certain MK3/UMK3/MKT endings, Shinnok is referenced in certain endings.

I was speaking as if MK4-MKA didn't exist. NRS said something to the effect of MK9 being a remake of MK1-MKT or something like that, except with some changes, of course.

Raiden wasn't a dick. He was just trying to keep shit together. He made a few mistakes, but in the end... Liu Kang was the huge dick.

In terms of most of the things he did, no, he isn't a dick. It was a hard situation, stuff happens.

Offering the souls of those he could protect so that Quan Chi could assist in killing Shao Kahn however...... Seriously, Raiden....**** you.
