Thanks for the info, man. One of the things that still baffles me though, is the sole detail that if WB and NR are willing to risk very low sales of the MK HD if they release it one month before their main event. Don't get me wrong, surely I would buy it, I know all you guys also.. but release a game just for fans prior to one of the most anticipated games of the last couple of years.. not a good idea for marketing and overall profit perspectives for the companies.

I still have this feeling that if the games its released sometime in the near future, it will be a downloadable game in the PS and 360 respective networks or its going to be a surprise bundle within MK 2011.

As a lover of the classic MKs... my nerves still pump everytime a hint goes out into the light.

Im in love with this HD kollection...how awesome would it be to play the classics in HD??? BUT, the biggest perk for me would be the DEMO of MK2011 that is rumored to be included with the game. I think March would be a perfect time to release this so all the fans can get a feel for the gameplay of the new MK. I want to get used to the new gameplay before April! Thank God Feb. is a short month...makes the wait somewhat better (not by much though)!

I've got to believe this date is premature and will get pushed out.

Has NRS/Midway ever released an MK game without any official marketing being released several months before the actual game dropped whatsoever? Actually I'll even throw that out as a general game question to any company. I've never bought a game in my life that I couldn't find official screenshots/articles/videos for months or even a year ahead of time.

It just doesn't happen. I'm not saying they don't have an MK HD Collection out there, but If this were a bet I'd bet my next week's paycheck it isn't dropping in March. Even though this is a peculiar date (the 2nd of a month. Usually if its just a placeholder date they'll use the 1st), I still don't like the chances of this game coming out in March when we're almost 30 days away from that date and haven't heard anything official.

I could be wrong; I hope I'm wrong. However, this to my recollection would be a first for NRS, and a huge gamble if that's how they are going to release it.

nice thread ShawnBronald. The March date is possible. There is enuff time for an announcement and if a demo would be included, it would be the right timing. Tough with all de wrong dates that have been floating around since this thing started and silence from WB/NRS, this is still really unreliabled data. But yeah...we're already well aware of that. *sigh*

Been checking for any updates on Dutch websites, but no news. Still 30th june according to distributor micromedia and december according to retailer bol.com.

Somewhere I read the 3d artist cut the game from his Resume now. This can either be because WB contacted him, because they want it to remain secret or the game got cancelled. Another possibility is that MK fans kept mailing and calling him about the game:P

Even if? it turns out so that there is a demo for MK9. Thats enough reason to buy it.

my 2 theories:

1- the game was in development as trmk said but will be a 20th anniversary "game" (2012).
2- the first "info" of this games was trmk BS. you know.. patrick exchanges a lot of "twits" with ed boon, and instead of making a poll or something ed "says" to patrick: "throw some "info" to see the fans reaction". remember that ed was asked back in E3 about the posibility of a new game in old format (digitalized actors)

Interesting. So you are of the opinion that the HD Kollection will benefit, rather than hinder, sales of MK9?

Many fans have debated that both ways. On one hand, they say selling two separate games from the same franchise months (or possibly weeks, in this case) apart isn't such a good idea. Also, they say if you sell MKHD in between "official" games, you'll sell more copies. On the other hand, it's believed the HD Kollection will be a good way to market the old school, 2D MK games that many newer fans may not have played. Also, assuming there is an MK9 demo... well.... that's fairly self explanatory.

Honestly, i dont think that discussion or topic is relevant to anything regarding either game tbh. I think its just something people have discussed because their isnt really anything official to discuss.

Regardless, both games will sell well, with MK9 probably selling TONS more, but who knows. The demo can go away. This game doesnt need a demo, nor should it be marketed so sell copies of the HDK. I'd rather have the original final revision of MK4 emu'd and put on there instead.

So Tim, assuming this does drop in March, any reason for the secrecy and lack of marketing? I just can't recall a game released on disc/cartridge that was released without some coverage on IGN or a spread in a magazine at least several months out (3-6 at least) from release (the exception being that there are probably PSN and XBL Marketplace downloadable games that release with no coverage). That is the main reason I'm suspicious of a March release date

They should be DLC imo. but thats neither here nor there.

I never said it was gonna be released in March, I just said the original plan was to release it before MK9. I dont know if thats still the case, and if i knew, I still wouldnt say either way. It IS coming, but when? I dont know atm

What if it comes out with the preorder of anygame like MKA had UMK3 but only this time it is a surprize since Mortal Kombat is know for secrets and etc..

Apologies, I must have misread into your answer to ShawnBronald's question earlier and thought you meant that was both the original plan, and that you had inside information that they were sticking to that plan.

Not sure what you're referring to? I thought UMK3 came on a seperate disk with the collector's edition of MKA, not anything to do with a pre-order. Whatever the case may be I do think this is its own seperate game and won't show up as an in game surprise (Mk2 in Shaolin Monks) or on a bonus disk, because it seems several retailers have been given SKU's for the product and its popped up for pre-order on several of them. That would be a hassle for them to have to try to refund pre-orders for a fake SKU, so I don't think NRS would do that.

My opinion based on what we know, it is disc based (not DLC) and will drop, but I'm 50/50 on if its March or after MK9 (would be odd marketing if its March)

since mk 20th anniversary coming up in 2012, wonder if mkhd will be the mk game for that year? that would be a great holdover game after mk9 and also serve as a mk retrospect with a shitload of nostalgia thrown in and at the same time look fresh and new. i hope thats not the case though, cuz i want this game 9 weeks ago.
