Kratos to star in upcoming mortal kombat

Dammit. I just wanted the old Mk back in modern form.

It's obvious there will be at least one other cross-over character for the 360. If I see Marcus Fenix or Master Chief make an appearance, I'm going back to the real MK games and nixing this off my buy list. I have a feeling they're going to start mashing content into this game for quantity sake (like the past 3-4 MK games) and forget they were ever on a mission to return to the old MK game style.

So... where's that HD remake?

Screw what I said before about being on the complainers' side. Now I'm on the pro-Kratos side. And if you all were true fans, you wouldn't let something like Kratos destroy your overall enjoyment and excitement for the game.

And besides, who said that you're going to have to see a bunch of people playing as Kratos online? NS might do something like Naughty Dog did with Uncharted 2: The people who don't have the DLC don't play with other people who have the DLC.

All fo this won't matter in the long run anyway, because you all will get over it. Or at least the hate for it will die down (I remember when people were doing the exact same things you all are doing when the Star Wars characters were announced to be in Soul Calibur 4, and now barely anyone's complaining about it).

I'm a fan of the original MK. I'm not a "true fan" who buys everything MK-related regardless of content.

This IMO is dumb because it can't be taking at a competitive level... What if someone mains Kratos and the tournament is on a 360? I don't like this idea one bit at all because I want to see MK9 at a competitive level up with SSF4 at evo... not a game you play one month and get tired because no one takes the game serious...

They gotta work on the fighting mechanics and make sure its as good or better than SSF4...

Is that really the only correlation that the people who are for him being in this can come up with?!
If that's the case why not add a ****ing deathclaw or super mutant from Fallout. I mean, it's full of
dismemberment and violence. Hey, let's add some zombies from the Call of Duty Zombies mode.
After all it IS full of dismemberment.

Hmm usually I don't get too deep in forum coversations anymore but I'll make an acception. I think so many of you are taking this as if it's the end of the world. Can I please ask you to be reasonable?

The God of War franchise has done quite a bit in it's small time, but it's main driving point was always a very, very, very violent experience. Of course it wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the Mk franchise pushing the violence factor into video game and making it a common thought in the creative process in so many games today. God of War pushed it even farther when it was brought into this world. In other words MK=God of War.

Both franchises go hand in hand not by genre, but by the ideals of pushing violence in video games farther and farther. This isn't just a marketing idea, this is also two very big forces in video game history coming together and promoting the same game. Almost like Mk passing the torch and GoW saying "Keep it. Your far from done."

I never said true fans buy everything MK-related regardless of content. You seem to be reading too much into what I said. I'm talking about true fans who are excited that we get a new Mortal Kombat that isn't a crappy toned-down version (MK vs. DC), or that has too many needless features and feels incomplete (Armageddon). All I'm saying is that with all of the disappointments that those two games had, it seems incredibly idiotic and childish to go so overboard about ONE outside character being featured (And like I said before, we don't know all of the details about Kratos being in the game, so he could be an optional downloadable character for all we know). It's just that you all are taking this way too seriously.

I respect your opinion man, but if we weren't true fans, we wouldn't be on this site voicing our opinions about it.
How many non-Mortal Kombat fans do you know that are on this site?

ON A SIDE NOTE:
Gore factor is the most lame used excuse, for those wanting him in the game.
MK is so much more than that, gameplay-wise.
Sure, gore is a huge part of it, but the fighting mechanics / combo system and overall feel of MK 9 (from what we've seen so far), doesn't clash right with Kratos.

I have no problem with him as DLC, because then I would have the choice NOT to download him, if I wanted to.
The only thing I ask of NetherRealm, is to give the players the CHOICE.

How much do you want to bet that 1 turns into 2 or 3? I'm not really taking anything seriously other than the fact that games cost $60. So, when I spend $60 on a Mortal Kombat game, I personally want the MK game that goes back to its roots as they've been advertising this whole time

Kratos is one hell of a curve ball for me. I don't require bunches of fluff to lure me in as the GOW fan that I am to play MK. I'm not going to get pissed about it, I'll just be disappointed and return to playing UMK3.

The gore factor is the entire basis on why he's in. I mean if it wasn't we could always add rachet and clank or sly cooper or crash bandicoot. If there's one thing I've learned while following the MK franchise throughout the years is that anything's possible. If they can add a centuar to an MK game and make it work, I don;t see how they can't add Kratos and make it work.

Also I gotta agree, true fans express their opinions when their needed most. Hell I hardly post on here and I'm sharing my honest opinion. Everyone has an opinion, some differ from others, but never say they arn't MK fans for the basis of their opinions.

I understand what you mean, but I just don't see how the people who don't like this say that MK is ruined now because of one little thing (And like I said before, a thing that we don't know much info about). I still think that you are all blowing it way out of proportion because you will all see that in a few months it wasn't as serious as you thought it was.

While this is true, the various reasons why people don't want him in the game are equally stupid. Things like "One character slot that could've been used for someone is now given to Kratos". Like someone said, there is no cap on how many characters they could bring in. Hell, they could bring in all of the other characters if they wanted to. They did it before in Armageddon and the technology in those consoles and game discs are inferior to the ones we play now, so what's stopping them from doing that?

I have no problem with him as DLC, because then I would have the choice NOT to download him, if I wanted to.
That's the only thing I ask of NetherRealm.
Give the players the CHOICE.

That's what I hope happens because if he's included in the game as a hidden character you need to unlock, then the people complaining have a good excuse to complain. Until then you all have no logical reason to complain until all the facts about Kratos being in MK are revealed.

How much do you want to bet that 1 turns into 2 or 3? I'm not really taking anything seriously other than the fact that games cost $60. So, when I spend $60 on a Mortal Kombat game, I personally want the MK game that goes back to its roots as they've been advertising this whole time

Like I said before, Kratos (And any other non-MK character they want to introduce) will most likely be DLC, so all of the complaining will be pointless seeing how you'll have the option to not get them.

i dont understand why people are saying theyre not gonna buy the game now cause kratos is in it. Whether you like him or not, he doesn't affect the story and its not gonna change the gameplay which def looks like the most solid a mk game has ever been. he's just an extra, if you dont like him just play as one of the other great characters there are. Im actually disappointed i dont have a ps3 to play as him

Okay people who are saying they wont get this game because of Kratos being in it, is probably an exaggeration, or youre idiots. MK will be MK regardless, so if you like the series in general, then you should get this game. With that being said, people still dont understand why people like me and Viking Poodle are pissed off. Okay fine, hes not in the story mode, it still doesnt matter, his presence is in the damned game. This game, like NR studios said, is supposed to be a FAN SERVICE. If you say something like that, then you should stick with your word. Here we are, most of us thinking OMG, theyre bringing MK back to what it was a long time ago, so us old fans can rejoice, and new fans can experience the hype. But with the Kratos announcement, that takes away from that factor. Every general gamer is gonna be like HOLY SHIT, lets grab MK because KRATOS IS IN IT, they wont realize that the team was making this game to bring it back to the old days. Yeah he fits in the game, with the gore, gods, everything like that, but if youre going to do a REBOOT, a FAN SERVICE FOR PEOPLE WHO ENJOYED THE ORIGINAL 3 GAMES, then shit like this should not be included REGARDLESS. Its a slap in the face to the hardcore fans, who believed this game was going to be pure MK that we loved.

Hmm I'm an old fan and I'm rejoicing still. Why would you let someone else who wants to buy it for Kratos screw with your purchase? It's still a fan service at the end of the day even if Kratos is in. It's like saying a portrait is ruined by signing your name on the back of it. It's not what draws others to it that should be on your mind, it's what draws you most to it. Everyone has an opinion of whats right and wrong, but don't let something small destroy the big picture for you.

Hey pal, tell me something. How long have you been on this site? Who the **** are you to decide who are true fans and who aren't? I've played Mortal Kombat my whole life and have never given up on it! When the 2nd MK film caused backlash, I was still there! When fans hated Special Forces, I was still there! When MK vs DC was announced, I was MOTHER ****ING there! I have a damn right to ***** about Kratos being included into the series I know and love! You have no ****ing right to spit bullshit to those who know what they're talking about.

Taj Gill, lately you've proven to me time and time again that you have a good head on your shoulders. Taj is right! It's a REBOOT a FAN SERVICE!! This is not SoulCalibur!! Yes, I enjoyed Kratos in SoulCalibur on the PSP, but this is Mortal Kombat! It is a universe exclusive to itself, with the exception of any OFFICIAL crossovers (such as MK vs DC). Yes, even if Kratos is in the final product, I will still buy the game. I won't enjoy the fact that Ed and his team kinda sold out, Mortal Kombat is Mortal Kombat dammit!

I don't know whether to be elated or raging. I love Kratos, but I feel that he shouldn't take up a character slot. Hopefully all the characters I feel deserve a place in this game are still in. Oh well, we'll see.

Thank you, this is the whole point that I was trying to make. This whole situation with Kratos is like if you're looking forward to eating a big meal that was prepared the way you like it, and then you see that parsley is being used as a garnish so you decide to throw the entire meal in the trash without even touching it at all.

Damn dude, take it easy, this whole thing with Kratos and MK isn't as serious as you make it to be. I'm just like you with sticking by Mortal Kombat since the 1st one. And I wasn't even deciding who were and weren't true fans on this site. You really need to stop reading too much into what I type and just take a chill pill. And I do know what I'm talking about. This whole "RAGE RAGE RAGE BEFORE THE GAME COMES OUT" thing has happened so many times with video games and the end result has always been the same, so why should I change my mind about what I know is going to be the end result for this recent rage session with Kratos?

Let's all keep in mind that this news is still fresh and we don't have a clue about the details. Many people want to vent and they should be allowed to do that without having their fanaticism questioned or their opinions put down, and those who support this deserve the same respect. Understand that those who are venting were also likely disappointed by MK vs. DC in a similar fashion, so it would help to look at things from their perspective before calling them out.

Keep it civil, please.

I'm one of those people Deathcore.

I felt like MKvsDC took away from what could have been a GREAT game.
I'm not saying that such is the case with Kratos, because MK 9 looks phenominal so far.

All that I'm saying, is that NetherRealm should consider the fans that don't want him in, as well.
ATLEAST give us the option to NOT HAVE him (or HAVE him), VIA DLC.
You know, a happy medium for both types of fans.

I hear you, and I agree with you. But I still think Kratos is gonna be only DLC, I don't think NRS would be that stupid to put him in the final disc. If he is DLC, than there's nothing to complain about. You get him if you want, if not, them stay with the old characters and enjoy the fan service they've been talking about.
