An off-handed remark by Microsoft Corporate VP, Peter Moore, during Microsoft's CES 2006 keynote revealed that Capcom is bringing Street Fighter II - its most popular arcade game - to the Xbox Live Arcade. This amazing announcement for classic arcade gamers can only put even more pressure on Midway to either consider bringing the classic Mortal Kombat franchise to the online multiplayer arena.

Often the excuse for not creating a Mortal Kombat that can be played online was that the fast-twitch gameplay was not possible over a wide-area network, such was the reason given in our Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play Developer Interview. If Capcom can figure out a way to put a fast-twitch fighter like Street Fighter 2 online, then there should be no excuse for Mortal Kombat to remain offline.

Many of you expressed great interest in getting the classic arcade Mortal Kombat series on Xbox Live Arcade. Does the fact that Street Fighter 2 is coming to Xbox Live Arcade make you want Mortal Kombat II even more on Xbox Live Arcade? Let us know what you're thinking by expressing your feelings by leaving us a comment.

This is bull man, there is not reason why SF should be able to play live on Xbox, and MK can't. There is already emulation for online play (in mame), which is the same arcade port as in video games...... No reason why the xbox shouldn't be able to handle that. Give me MK.

I think they should beacuse it would be awesome to play MK1 online against people from all around the world.

I agree that it is extremely frustrating that the company line has always been, "too fast-twitch, won't work". Well are they going to let Capcom show that they're not trying hard enough? I don't want to hear excuses. I want to hear, we are working on it and coming up with the best solution. There is clearly enough interest/money in this for Midway to do it. What in the world are they waiting for? For everyone to have direct point to point fiber optic connections to everyone in the world?

I think it's SSF2 (turbo?) which is an extremly fast pacing game, and is probilby as fast or faster than MK2, I think maybe a petition should do. But then again, they've ignored us before, perhaps it will just be the same result. This topic should grab some attention though.. Hopefully enough people will reply...

Doesn't bother me whats live or not... I don't have a X-Box... My bro hasn't mentioned he wants one. So I'll never play it. Its properly a case of 'We can't be bothered' on the MK team's part. Or their too busy. there is suppose to be one MK game a year from now on afterall. Though if they have time to fix MK in the Treasures thingy I'm sure they can find time anyway.

Exactly what I would like to know.[/quote] I think Boon said that they structured the gameplay mechanics to flow better to support online.

Well, Xbox Live Arcade isn't the first online SF2. It started with Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. I believe they're going to add "Hyper Fighting" gameplay in this version. Midway obviously is having financial problems. It's too bad they can't see the payoff on these smaller scale projects.

You could take out the Hyper and put in Mortal Kombat, and Ed Boon would make millions. What is Midway thinking letting something like this slip right by them?

I would believe that if this SF 2 re-emergence is popular on Live Arcade it might create interest for Midway. Thus releasing whichever oldschool version of MK they choose to and capitalize on this new market. I'm really excited to see that Capcom isn't abandoning its old games and is keeping the experience fresh by adding new features. Hopefully, Midway will follow and heck why not go further by doing the same for Rare's Killer Instinct??

Well I must say this is great and all but, I would like to see more of actually XBOX 360 games. Screw XBOX live arcade. All there doing is trying to get all the old games (which r cool) that have mostly already been out on greatest hits comp and have had online comp already ex - like Street Fighter Anniversary edition and recycle them on live arcade to make more money. I would pay for MK series being online cause those have always rocked. I really want to see the next MK on the next gen system but it looks like so far the new one will still be on the old systems. Oh well. Bottom line is there should be no excuse not to fart around and not put MK series online. I am talking MK1 all the way to gold even.

This news is very exciting to the gaming world, however I would love to see MK on the new xbox. Street Fighter is childsplay compared to the world of MK. However I am looking forward to the release!
