In Midway's Q4 2007 conference call to investors, David Zucker - CEO of Midway Games - reiterated that plans are still on track to release a Mortal Kombat title for next-generation consoles, Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, in 2008. Zucker also mentioned a bit of information that Mortal Kombat fans have been waiting very patiently for. This April, the first details of the next Mortal Kombat game will be revealed at Midway's Gamers Day event on April 17th in Las Vegas.

And then later in the year, we expect to launch the next generation debut of our perennial top selling franchise Mortal Kombat. The Mortal Kombat franchise has sold over 7 million units during the PS2 console cycle and we will be unveiling details on the next iteration at our Gamers Day event in mid April.

Coincidentally, the personal website - Noob.com - of Mortal Kombat series co-creator, Ed Boon, has been updated with a countdown timer to Midway's Gamers Day event. Suffice it to say, April 17th, 2008 should be marked on every Mortal Kombat fan's calendar as the "re-imaging" of a 15 year franchise is revealed to the public.

What to expect from the reveal of "Mortal Kombat 8" this April? Previously Boon went on record to say that "It’s going to be nothing like you’ve ever seen before." Inspired by the art direction of Gears of War, Boon looks to create a "gritty" and "very dark, serious Mortal Kombat" that the game is "reinventing everything from the ground up."

Back in September rumors sprouted up regarding "Mortal Kombat 8" being a 'versus' title along with another well-established intellectual property. So far no new information on this rumor has presented itself to us; however, signs still point to that possibility and soon we shall find out if our tipster was on the money.

Keep with us as we continue to follow the developments of the next iteration of the Mortal Kombat franchise and remember to check back in April for the big reveal at Midway's Gamers Day event.

Update on 3/20/2008 by Patrick McCarron - There seems to be a slight update to the counter site now, brought to our attention by Forums member Tim Static. At first what appeared be a visitor counter, now may appear to be some code: 238,868.

What does the code mean? Could it point to a future release date of 8/8/08? Or just referring to the year 2008? I guess we'll know more in less than a month! Stay tuned!

Update on 3/28/2008 by Patrick McCarron - Ed has gone and made more updates this week. The website now shows a set of mysterious eyes under the words ANSWERS along with a series of animal pictures and numbers along the bottom edge of the animals.

You can decode the animal's common names to spell out RAGE and for the numbers under the pictures replaced with that letter in the alphabet it becomes FREE and KLOSE. What does it all mean? Stay tuned, I'm guessing the ANSWERS are very KLOSE. ;)

Does anyone know if Ed still owns this domain? Nothing there but Noob.com in bold print on a black page. Used to be great when he'd update it with info and bs (Zebron? WTF?).

The "Moon" is actually a greyed out version of the Earth, alternate realm possibly. The "lightening" looks more like a heart beat monitor style graphing thing to me. And the numbers spell out Free and Klose converting them into their equivelent in the alphabet. I think the pictures are referencing words too. Face, ?, ?, ?, ?, Free, blank, blank, Klose/Close. I'm not sure what the 2nd animal is but if you take the first letter of all of their names then you get R?GE, I'm guessing the 2nd letter is animal starts with an A (Ant Eater?). So then you have Face, Rage, Free, (blank), (blank), Klose as a possibility. The timer could be part of this too - Time (to) Face (the) Rage. The Earth and Greyed version/Moon being tied together with the MK symbol seems to support another actual MK Tournament or that these two realms are bound in some way, without one the other could not exist or the destruction of one destroys them both etc.

I've been saving the last few images, I wasn't thinking either. He made another update, it shows a series of numbers under the pictures. Not sure what it means but it could be decoded to FREE and KLOSE. So it's likely what he meant. So we have RAGE with the animals, and FREE and KLOSE. Any ideas out there? I'm drawing a blank.

There isn't much you need to know about it, really. A cataclysmic event took place that somehow led to the release of god-like dinosaurs that took over the Earth and the continents reformed into the super-continent of Pangaea. I was completely joking when I said it could be MK vs. PR. Aside from the fatalities and gore, the games are really nothing alike and exist in two completely different realities. Even if there is a "when worlds collide" thing going on here, Primal Rage still seems incredibly unlikely.

Yea but I wasn't joking. I actually thought that when I saw all the clues. And it scares me shitless to think they might mean that. As far as I'm concerned, I'd be happy with MK vs. DC, MK vs. KI, or MK vs. SC. Those are the only 3 options I'd be pleased with.

I don't think it'll cross over with Primal Rage. For one Primal Rage was never that big of a game, the sequel was cancelled with it being very close to finished. A PR VS title would do nothing to sell the game. Secondly I can't see the next MK game being a VS game unless its a stand alone game outside of the series. I can see there being characters from other universes in the game (Maybe a PR or DC character or two). I don't think we'll see a DC crossover either. DC characters have been marketed towards kids and I can't see them being allowed in a traditional MK game. A severly toned down game maybe. I could however see characters like Batman or some villians being hidden or extra characters but not as a way to market the game, there would be an uproar since , again, DC chracters are known in the mainstream for their cartoons. Boon's said he wants a gritty more realalistic game and the DC (non-comic) universe as it is now doesn't fit. I don't think the animal pictures have anything at all to do with the game, just a clue to spelling out Rage, which I don't think connects to Primal Rage.

Unfortunately there's not enough characters to have MK vs. Rampage because I wouldn't object to that either.

if we did get an MK vs. PR, it'd be silly cos the characters in PR are like as big as skyscrapers. To make MK vs. SC, you'd have to either make MK without gore or make SC really violent, which doesn't fit. Nothing in the western market fits with Mortal Kombat, and Eastern franchises are all too anime orientated.

Yea it's not like Marvel Vs. Capcom where they have a similar feel to them.

I never noticed the Moon was actually Earth, so that's an interesting theory. And never thought of the face meaning FACE. I have a feeling more clues are coming soon since his updates seem to be two days apart. April 17th is also quickly fast approaching.

Purple is only to distinguish between overlapping words that looked wierd otehrwise. Red contains several words that could be LET, LETS, SAGE, AGE, or VEGAS (backwards). It seems the red H begins 2 words. Also, before you jump on me saying "I founds more words than yous!" well I purposefully ignored a few that seemed unimportant. Happy hunting!

Yea, I suspect that one is important because that's a very telling word these days. Usually 3-letter words are ignored in word searches, simply because it's so easy for a random word to come out of random letters, but Wii is just too important (and obvious) not to be noticed and corrected by the makers.

And here I converted each number corresponding to the letter in the English alphabet 01 = A, 02 = B, 03 = C, and etc. I did this because there are 26 characters in the English alphabet, and the highest number in here is 26, and the lowest 01. Making it a total of 26, eaqualy matching the alphabet. Except for the number 8 in 5th row from the bottom, 4th column from left, because unlike other single digit values, it has no number 0 before it. So I left it be.

It was quite easy actually, to get the numbers from the image in to text form I used an OCR program that automatically takes text (and numbers) from images and makes them editable. To convert the numbers in to letters I used Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express, and used a feature it has that lets you convert any text you specify in to another, automatically. It all took no more than 15 - 20 minutes. However I did all this before I realized someone else has done it already.

I doubt the point of his post was to suggest you went to all that much trouble (I did it by hand and it took 15-20 minutes as well, but I was able to circle words in mine using Photoshop). I think the point is, read the thread before you post stuff that's been done and discussed for the past 2 pages. On a side note, countdown ends thursday! I'm excited!
