Your wishlist for MK10

Compare the amount of people who didn't buy MK9 because of guest characters to the people who did.

And locking them away is completely nonsensical. So few people share your opinion of guest characters. Your idea just sounds selfish.

MK9 doesn't need guest characters to stand on its own legs, and combined sales prove that.
Just as many people bought it on 360 as did on PS3, if not a little less because people prefer the DualShock for fighters, not because of guest characters.

There are LOTS of people who hate the idea of guest characters.
Maybe you were asleep during the MK9 Freddy and Injustice Scorpion shit-storms, but I clearly remember it, and there were tons of people pissed off on major gaming forums like here, TYM, IGN, GameTrailers, Gamespot and so on.

Also, my idea (thus far) is the only suggested idea that appeases both fans of guest characters and purists / non-guest character fans alike, yet I'm the selfish one?
Ok, sure.

You want to lock away special content for every player because you don't want to see it in your game. That's selfish.

MK does not need guest characters to stand, but it does benefit massively from it. What generated more buzz? Kratos or Rain? And the whole shitstorm of hate was an isolated incident. The amount of people who didn't give a shit and just wanted the characters vastly outnumber the people who were crying about it here.

No.
It's a solution for both types of people.
If you want a guest character and I don't then why not have the best of both worlds?
Being an unlockable or having a mandatory compatibility pack works best.
At the very least, a patch update with the compatibility added in.

Rain and Kratos both got TONS buzz for different reasons.
Rain got lots of buzz, due to fans wanting him in and complaining that he wasn't.
Rain was an actual UMK3 character that was missing from the main roster and LOTS people were pissed off.
Kratos got lots of buzz, due to people not wanting him on the main roster, and that he got priority over Rain.

Also, the Freddy and Scorpion rage wasn't just and isolated incident.
Obviously, you were wearing horse vision blinkers.
As I stated above, it was pretty much everywhere that people were pissed off, not just here.

In the words of Cliff Burton, Kill 'em all!

The only fans that matter are the purists! Everyone else can eat shit and DIE!

Hell yeah! Kill 90% of the sales!
Then the pure fans can enjoy past games since the franchise will die soon after! Major success!

Who has contributed more money over the life of the product? The casual or the purist? Who stays more loyal to the product long-term? The casual or the purist?

The answer to both questions is the same...

I lol'ed

That aside, BBBLP, people like Ames are the exception, not the rule.
Ed Boon specifically said that MK9 would have every MK1 thru UMK3 character that you could think of (aka an MK1 thru UMK3 reboot), so yeah, tons of people sure as hell were pissed when Rain (a legit UMK3 character) didn't make the main roster.
It's most likely the reason why Boon rectified Rain via DLC, and even gave Rain his proper UMK3 costume in the Vita version, once the 150th Challenge was completed.

How is it selfish when the players who want it can look it up and find it for themselves? That's like saying Midway was selfish for locking away someone's favourite piece of art in the krypt while the rest of it is in the menus.

This.
Thank you.
It's not selfish.
BBBLP just personally has it out for me.

The people who want it can unlock it in the Krypt, and the people who don't, don't have to unlock it.
It's accessible to both types of people on the disc, just like the MK9 alternate skins, Quan Chi and Cyber Sub-Zero (it's there for those who want it and don't want it) and online people would still be able to use it.

Btw, I also suggested this very same idea of making human Sub-Zero and Liu Kang unlockable characters in MK10.
This way, they don't HAVE to be part of the story, and it would allow for the same type of situation.
The people who want them can unlock them and use them online, and the people who dont want them don't have to unlock them, and it doesn't hinder the people who do want to use them online.
Think of it like compatibility packs, but already on the disc.

Get off your own dick, kid.
It's selfish because you don't want guest characters and that mindset is VASTLY outnumbered by people who do. Just because you want your "pure" MK (A series that thrived off of borrowing ideas from other franchises) other people have to jump through hoops to use the character they want? How would that be a selling point on the box? "PS3 Exclusive! Play as Kratos the God of War! After you jump through hoops even though you are a casual fan who just wants to use a cool character"

Anyways, it's a mere solution to appease both fan types.
Plain and simple.

That being said, the pure MK is what MK what it is today.
Don't like it, then go and play MvC, Tekken or something else.
Jump through hoops?
As I just said, the pure MK is what made MK MK, and if you solely pick up MK JUST for a guest character, then you truly aren't an MK fan, and a little searching in the Krypt never hurt anyone.
As for marketing, it SIMPLE.
"Unlock Kratos on PS3" <====== It's a mere 4 words, and if you can't spend a few minutes to unlock something in the Krypt, and spend some time with MK, then maybe MK just isn't for you.

When I was growing up, jumping through hoops was a badge of honor! Did the former Squaresoft ever give us the ability to summon King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table on a silver platter? Did they sell us a shortcut to get it? Nope! If we wanted to summon King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, we needed to spend hours and millions of gil breeding chocobos.

That's right, we had to EARN the right to summon King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table! It wasn't given to us like Kratos was!
