Will the Wii U get respect from the fighting community?

I'm picking up the WiiU this November and I noticed only two fighting games are announced for the system TTT2 and Injustice but I'm most likely picking up the PS3 version of Injustice because I don't see many people playing the WiiU verson ( online anyway ) so my question is will the fighting community ever respect the Wii U? I do understand its too early yet but it does strike me as odd the lack of enthusiasm the fighting community has toward Nintendo's new console. What do you think?

Well let me start off by saying I'm not planning on purchasing a Wii U.

Anywho, I honestly do not see the Wii U becoming as successful as the original Wii console (obviously), and therefore I personally do not see it getting much love from the fighting community. Yes, fighting games will be released on the console, but I assume most people will buy those games for their PS3's and Xbox's. Also, I have a feeling most gaming companies are waiting for the next generation consoles to be announced to start on new projects. I would not consider the Wii U a 'next gen' console, but rather a glorified version of an existing one. But of course, that is just me. :)

OG, you took the words right out of my mouth.

I'm sure there will be a few okay fighting games on there, but I don't see it being spectacular. I still have nightmares over MK Armageddon on the Wii.

Nope, why play fighting games with a lumpy controller and all other fighters will also be available on the other consoles which already have a foundation.

Only real option is Smash Bros.

Not happening. Especially if Nintendo wants to be a clusterfluff of retards again and make us use friendcodes. Plus the controller thats actually decent for fighting games is sold separate.

I see absolutely no reason why any tournament would use WiiU's for nonexclusives. It isn't even really next gen, it just finally caught up to the current one.

Exactly what I was thinking, lugging around that tank of a controller. Then having to pay for one that would be optimal.

No, the WiiU has missed its mark with the fighting community.

Tatsunoko vs.Capcom is a Wii exclusive and if I remember correctly its made by the same developers as Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. I think it's harsh to say Nintendo has no tournament worthy games.

Nintendo already lifted restrictions (that gave them a reputation as a kid-friendly console) they imposed on developers a long time ago. Now it's just a matter of which consoles 3rd-party developers want to work with, something that is beyond Nintendo's control. Besides, we know virtually nothing about consoles that Microsoft, Sony, or anybody else might produce.

As many have touched on here, the issue will be that the Wii U is competing against already established consoles. So, the strength of the system will be its exclusives, which most of these fighting games will not be. I can't see many people buying the Wii U versions of multi-platform games, other than those rare individuals who buy a Wii U who still haven't ever bought an X360 or PS3 (like me if I buy a Wii U)

The Wii U has already earned the respect of the gaming community at large (and that includes the fighting game community) by being the most pro-consumer console of the next generation.

Whether or not the Wii U will receive the respect it is entitled to is a different story altogether.

I believe if Injustice is superior on the Wii U ( online is better more features ect ) people will not care because its Nintendo. COD BLOPS2 will be treated the same way even though its the better verson. I'm picking the WiiU up for the exclusives ( obviously ) but I do feel its a long up hill battle for the company which is a little unfair but I can't change peoples opinions.

Nintendo shat on my favorite franchises, So sorry if my confidence is excessively low, Nintendo did this to itself. So yes, even if I had a Wii U, I would purchase the game for my PS3 first because not just to "smite' them or anything,

but more than likely a larger number of people will have a ps3 vs Wii U. thus larger crowd to compete against.

It's does make me wonder if WB will re-release MK9 on the WiiU with unique features (like the Vita has)but I'm NOT getting my hopes up.

I tried the Wii U for a bit. The controller is a bit on the heavy side, otherwise more comfortable to hold than I expected. Whether or not the d-pad can handle the precision needed for fighting games is yet to be seen though.

No one takes anything made by Nintendo seriously.

No one took the Wii seriously and Nintendo dominated the console market. I look at this way Sony is in deep financial trouble (2.9 billion dollar loss and look at the Vita's sales for example), Microsoft only care about being a cable box with social apps and Kinect more than being a console but Nintendo has nothing else but the gaming community to drive their sales. I know it's a tough battle for Nintendo to win but they are making steps in the right direction (funding Bayonetta 2). All I'm saying is it's crazy to declare the WiiU dead before it even has a chance.

I don't think anyways calling it dead...

but I mean.. I've had a game cube and a wii...

The most games I bought for my cube were like 8 games

SSBM
resident Evil 4
resident evil 1 remake
Resident Evil Zero
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime Echoes

nvm I can't think of anymore games.

I believe this was the extent of my collection.

As for the Wii?

Super smash brothers Brawl (which I threw in the microwave)
Metroid Prime Corruption
Metroid: other M
Zelda Twilight Princess (didn't even finish it)

this is just my experience.

So I probably won't even look at it. tbh.

As a console for fighters, I have no respect.

As a console for first party games?

No other console has exclusives like Nintendo.
