Who plans on being competitive in MK9?

I hope everyone plans on being competitive with this game. This is what Ed Boon is aiming for with this title so lets not let him down.

Besides, winner at PDP Tournament at Vegas is 10k grand prize.

Hold the phone; is that a Johnny Cage alternate costume displayed at the beginning?

Because the intro seems to be a cinematic from story mode, and that guy looks EXACTLY like Cage, down to the sunglasses.

Lol bro his alt is old news. Look up Liu Kang's gameplay video for a better shot of it.

yeah i plan on being competitive...unfortunately i was always good at streetfighter, and sucked at MK...was a hare to fast for me, but as far as the demo goes, the speed feels right...i think i'll manage. i'll definitley be looking for ppl on here to team up with/play against online to improve skills...so anyone can add me as well on xbox

I have to say I've never been invested in a fighting game and certainly not been good at one (they go hand in hand) but I feel I can relate to this discussion.

Never played multiplayer FPS till MW2. Got pretty decent by myself. Managed to impress skilled players and we sort of made a clan. 6 or 7 of us. Hours a week all having fun practicing and socializing etc.

We had our most fun when we played search and destroy and took it hella seriously. Everyone went try hard if we were going to lose. We went on a 70 game win streak. Took 3 nights. At 1 point I was the only player left on the map against 3 people and if we were to lose it would have been over. Killed the other team, we played another round and won. Kept the streak rolling.

Never had that much exhilaration and sense of epicness in a video game before that. Of course, we, as a group played around alot just being stupid but we had our most fun when we tried.

Now IMO the only way to take a game "seriously" and enjoy winning is to be good at the game. In other words, not all people who play for fun are bad, but most people who try hard are good.

I'd love to be skilled at this game and play with friends competitively. Engine looks deep and hopefully the suite of online options is robust so as to enhance the multiplayer portion of the game.

why make it so serious?

I grew up always being on soccer teams, track in middle school/high school and wrestling all throughout high school. And now that I'm done with all that I use fighting/shooting games to please my competitive side =)

It's something I could practice and strive to be the best at in the comfort of my own home, online or with my equally competitive friends. Taking wrestling to the next level would be making it my life. This is just a hobby on the side that still feeds my competitive spirit through owning people online, or going to tournys.

That's just me though. Or is it? Anyone else like competitive gaming because they use to play sports on this forum? O_o

It depends for me really with friends I will only sometimes like if were having tournements. But against strangers probably the same, especially against better players so that it helps make me better.

I do want to practice and be really good with all the characters though especially Sub-Zero and Noob

Ya I didnt think about that, but yeah I played alot of sports back in HS so this and Pool at the bar with my buddies is the only competitive thing I got left, well besides work too lol. Yeah I find work competitive

That makes sense, my dad used to be like that and when he got injured (2 broken legs in the same injury! Though at like parents vs teachers soccer days he'd still play and beat them lol) he started playing on the sega genesis for his soccer fix lol. Now he doesn't play video games anymore which sucks.

Dude! I'm the exact same way! I've been bred to be competitive. Been playing basketball since I was 4. There isn't a sport I haven't played at least once. I had to finally quit playing basketball my sophomore year, which was when I really started getting Into playing video games competitively. Video games really help to get my competitive fix. Whether it be by practicing for tourneys, or just playing against my friends.

I play for fun, and competitively at the same time. If you get to angry for losing it just turns the game into something different.

Mind you, if I lose to some homo that plays 24/7, who thinks their better then ANYONE else, and doesn't have a job and still lives in his mommas basement at the age of 30+..... THEN IM A BE A LIL HULKRAGE.

It's pretty much a mix for me but i'd have to say more towards competitive as far as improving and playing with others at a high level of play. I'll still always make time to play my friends etc. It's not likely i'll be going to any tournaments (might do a few online ones i dunno yet). I'm probably gonna go for being in the top 100 rank for MK9 like i did with MvC3 tho i doubt i'll get bored as fast as i did on that. It gets old with the typical stuff on there and lost even more interest after my tourney friends didn't even bother to play online. Retired after like 2 weeks or so lol. Definitely looking forward to getting decent/good in MK9 tho. At the end of the day it's about having fun and for me it's soooo much fun at a high level of play. So many mind games etc. lol.

I personally like the idea of MK clans. Getting a group of fighting game fanatics together and having a few tag tournaments against other clans would be sweet. I love the 'team player' aspect of competitive gaming.

EDIT: AAAAUGH! Just remembered there's no online tag matches.. So lame..

i play for fun; i just happen to always win

BoooooYAH

(jk of course; but i will play to win)
