Who plans on being competitive in MK9?

I thought they did? where u and a friend at home can play against another with his/her friend? unless your talking about 4 ps3/xbox users then idunno. im hoping mines right cuz i got friends and cousins in New York!

this is correct; you just cant do 4 ps3/xbox users; but you and your bud at your house can play online against other tag teams

KANO (THEORETICALLY):

how do you guys feel about his CANNON BALL special move being much of a challenge to pull off knowing from interviews and such that it is not <-- --> 4 anymore?? it is now a full Counterclockwise 4.

-Do you guys feel that you can pull off a combo ending with this move?
-Quick hands a solution? theoretically, i think it will take me a couple of hours just like how it took me to pull of Raiden's grab/teleportation pro move in MK Vs DC.

I bet kano is, if not, probably the most challenging fighter to master just because of his canon ball.
But i believe that it would be easier to pull that move off with the TE fightstick in contrast to regular xbox360 controllers.
I don't know how harder it will be for PS3 users to pull off his Canon Ball special move.

Good luck guys....kano is gonna be my main dude in the game. just wait and see!
-I'm glad us 360 users still don't have the demo....its more surprising for us because we get to learn at the same time. (no pun intended for ps3 users, but i don't plan against playing ya'll....even if i had a ps3...unless i know you lol)

Peace.

It's good to try to improve in the game, I mean, trying to become good, to have chance of winning matches, and being satisfied on having enough skill to have more wins than loss, and not being a "noob" forever or a "online punch bag" ....

Summarizing : having chance to survive, and winning more matches than losing, and having fun knowing you can do moves, fatalities, combos and put a win too, when you played better than your oponent ......

Anyway, Personally I take well and light being defeated and having a loss online, specially when I see that I have been lazy to try to win , and the other guy/girls played much better than me, he/she really took that match serious and put effort to win it .....

It's OK being half/half , 50%-50% : being competitive, but , knowing how react on victory and the same attitude on loss ..... basically , being cool , and having fun , winning or losing ..... and, in fact, losing is unavoidable, and happens to improve your game , to show how you sucks and need to go in Training Mode more .....

I know some confident guys will ignore partially or totally the training mode, and go straight online at first to play only vs online, but, some of them having their assess kicked later, when some others guys that spent time training this game, feel prepared to go online and put competitive battles ......

Regarding MK 2011 Life Cycle Improvement time line, picking a newbie that intend to be a pro, I think works more or less accurate as this summary above :

** Having the game for 1-2 weeks : when the game is released, you spend the first weeks "feeling" it, training, playing some matches online, and accepting well defeats when they come ....

** Having the game for 1 month : With one month of practice, you start to become more good, more quick, more smart, and more daring, trying more of your personal touch in the game, and copying less other's people style and gameplay ....

** Having the game for 3 months : With 3 months practicing, you do pratically everything naturally , the moves commands turn into a second nature, you start to take more serious a match and try to win, and , if you lose, at least you fought hard ....

** Having the game for 6 months: With 6 months, you know pratically everything about the game : basic and custom combos for every character, all offensive tactics, all defensive strategies, and probably, you have a win/loss rate about 5:1 or even 7:1 .... at this point the game has none secret anymore for you, and you play to keep training, avoid rust, and become pretty competitive ..... you still accept being defeated, but, only if you see your oponent really, really put a hell of battle and he was better than you in that match ..... against any other person below your skill level, you have no mercy , and destroy them online. Against MK 2011 newcomers, you can only lose if you want .... hehe

** Having the game for 1 year : With 1 year having the game and pratice, you could easily do well in any paid tournament, since, at this point, you are so skilled, that playing with people much more worse than you, becomes "boring" : you want to test yourself in high level, and so, online you seek for right ranked players, you send messages in forum wanting to play with people who are so skillful as you, and you want to break all game's limit, doing super hard and crazy combos, long combos sequences , and trying to put some hard flawless victory .... from this point to foward , if you are still motivated, you dominates totally or almost all aspects of this game ..... you can keep a 10:1 w/l rate almost all the time .......

Do you have a source?
If that is true it really disappointments me. I was hoping that people who use fight sticks didn't automatically have a huge advantage over people who use controllers/pads, unlike almost every other fighting game to date.

Those guys playing for "fun", do you ever plan on going online? Chances are, people that play online will be good so enjoy those losses.

I will. Hopefully it will be godd enough and have a lasting scene. I've already started with Tekken, MK will be my second.

One thing I don't get is that when people say playing competitvely takes the fun out, I don't think that is true. It's more that you don't have the competitive sprirt. You're either competitive or you're not.

I find joy in proving my skills to other people. I play to win but don't mind losing(because you learn something). Is it fun? Hell yeah! I just think people have a misconception about the competitive mindset.

My response to both of you is in this video....
Basically, in the PAX demo built, Kano is in it....and they talk about his canon ball....its one of my favorite moves of all time.
I don't care if its challenging. i love the fact that it is....thats why i like mortal kombat over any other fighting game because its not all about button mashing. so check these videos out.

no pun intended but its annoying how people talk about "rain this....skarlett that" but with all honesty, they're not even out yet and SOME/MANY are already *****ing about them....KNOW WHATS IN THE GAME FIRST before you talk about premonitions and foreshadows about what new characters will come. Obviously, a lot of people still aren't resourceful about whats in the gameplay and specific moves for characters. Watch more videos and OBSERVE, investigate, and visually learn from what meets the eye.

I could careless about the characters, whats more important is the game engine and mechanics. I know and understand they took 10 tournament players to help tweak the game, which i think is very awesome of Ed Boon to do, so then hopefully MK will finally have a game engine worth playing competitive for.

Lets be honest, they havent had a competitive scene since mk2/umk3.

I always play to win, but if you always play like your life is depending on it, it can get very stressful and frustrating. I can't deal with the stress of rankings and stuff. I don't play good when i know it's serious business. I'm not the tournament type of player you can say.

being competitive online is always a goal for me. i usually start fighting online as soon as possible because other online users are doing things like creating new combos that the computers won't.

as for the kano ball...with enough practice, you should be able to pull it off mid-combo, or at the end of a combo. in MK vs. DC a lot of Liu Kang's better combos involve his bicycle kick which is back, back, forward, B. if you press the first few buttons fast enough you'll give yourself enough time to pull off the more difficult moves!

Yes, about the kano ball mid kombo...absolutely possible and i believe in it. But its completely different from lui kangs since his you just press it in sequence back back forward b. but i heard kano's you have to do the 360 harmoniously as in not pressing down forward up back b. you actually have to do it SMOOTHLY.

I'll be playing for fun, because when you take video games too seriously it takes the fun out.

+1. winning feels good obviously but losing is 'bad' for me more because I lost using a favorite player and got his ass kicked rather than the loss itself :P for online matches, I don't mind I guess but when it comes to playing with friends, I definitely wanna kick their ass in a constant basis for the fun of it :P

Sounds like youre scared to be competitive because youre a sore loser when it comes to it. I've been playing competitive fighter games for the past 10 years and all the games ive played is still fun to me. I dont get the whole point of, "If I play competitive the game isnt fun."

No, it isnt fun because youre a sore loser. Man up and take the loss, thats your cue to go online find combos that works and better yourself. How do you play a fighting game without being competitive anyway?

I guess from my experience, thats like sandbagging yourself. Whenever I'm online and dont want to play competitive, I just joke around and not do combos..yeah sandbagging myself.

I intend to but with my schedule I wont be able to get as much quality time in as you youngsters but I will do what I can.

uhh no I'm not, I'm quite good actually. there is no point in being competitive in a game though imo, no matter which game it is. your little speech about maning up is quite ridiculous, it's just a game, I'm not hurt by loss. you just made yourself sound like someone who needs approval and confidence via winning a freaking game dude, get a grip or better yet, get some mental help :P

Shoryuken.com disagrees with your whole posts. Not going to waste my time debating about this, if you dont think its worth being competitive over then thats your view, go have fun being a punching bag for everyone online.

Just because someone doesn't play competitively online doesn't mean that they suck. For example, this dude named Desk has all of these videos on YouTube that show you how to do infinite combos on Marvel vs Capcom 3. And he doesn't play competitively online anymore because quite frankly, he would murder everybody.

Besides, just because one website thinks differently than someone about fighting games doesn't make them right or wrong. It seems to me like you take all of this stuff a bit too seriously...

Dont use Desk as an example, hes got different motives for finding infinites, loops, glitches..ect. Desk wouldnt murder everyone online thats very silly to say. Theres a ranking system that only lets you fight against someone with the same level of skill. He;s subpar at best against tournament players.

I'm taking this a bit too seriously? Thats just the competitive side of me, I apologize if I have a drive to compete. I guess you can say, its the Alpha side of me :)
Anyway, if you cant see that Boon is pushing for a competitive scene with this MK then you are blind. Dont forget that this is a fighting game not a RPG.

I know Boon is trying to make this game real big in the competitive scene. Hell, that's one of the first things he said when talking about this game back at E3 '10, and he seemed to have accomplished this a bit by it being featured at Evo. I'm just saying that you shouldn't disrespect people and just pass them off as being unskilled because they don't feel like competing competitively.
