What is the hardest game you've played?

I decided to make this thread because I'm currently playing the hardest game I've ever played:

Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne.

This game just seriously kicks you in the balls, spits on your face then just proceeds to rape the shit out of you.

Escaping from battles is damn near impossible
Random encounters are constant (It's hard for me to even get down 1 short hallway without running into a random encounter). I even had one instance were I had a random encounter, won, then took 3 steps then got another which then the battle just destroyed me.

Critical rates, enemy stats and damage you take is high as hell.

NORMAL difficulty in SMT3 Nocturne = Hard on standard games.
HARD on SMT3 Nocturne = Impossible for casual gamers.

The game isn't cheap by any means, it just FORCES you to think on your next move very carefully and if you make 1 mistake, then it's game over and back to your last save point.

It shows no mercy.

This is a hard one to answer for me, as there are a lot of games I didn't bother finishing because of the difficulty.

Hardest game I actually conquered? Sonic Spinball, no question.

Ghosts N' Goblins

  • Enemies spawn randomly and constantly. You can easily get overwhelmed if you are not alert at all times. Memorizing levels don't do you much good, due to the random element.
  • Like many games around that time you have little control over your jumps. This means one mistake will mean taking a hit. Getting hit two times will usually result in death.
  • Power-ups are questionable in their effectiveness, heck they can even gimp you in the wrong situation.

I can't remember the absolute hardest, but I can remember some hard ones.

Black

I also remember this game for Ps1 where you started out in a room, and my friend and I could never figure out how to leave.

MKII and UMKIII

Time Splitters II, one of the missions where you played as a dude who thought he was a robot.

Probably Ghouls and Ghosts for the Sega Genesis. I used to always play this back in the day because it was one of the only Genesis games I had (The others being Earthworm Jim and SF2)

Shit was insanely hard and to make things worse, once you beat the last stage it makes you play the whole damn game over again

Now you reminded me why I haven't played RTSs in a long time.

lololol

sorry flawless

You only need to be THAT ridiculous for top level tournament play.

The APM needed in Starcraft 2 is ALOT less.

Brood war has somewhere in 300-400APM

Starcraft 2. you can compete against really good players at only 80apm. Because the layout and the way the game was designed gave alot of short cuts.

I don't know my APM for sure, but I believe its a lot slower than 80. Even with games that are considered less twitchy like Kohan II: Kings of War, I'm always behind in production.

I'm not trying to convince you to play SC2, just defending that it's not for "hardcore only"

It's got different leagues, and if you only have something like 1 click every 2 seconds. which is 30apm. you'll fight other people your skill level. So it's not like you absolutely HAVE to play at the highest level.

aka probably put you in bronze league. The game itself has APM measuring system inside it, that you can view during replay.

Sonic Adventure 2. It wasn't really overbearingly hard or the hardest game ever, but at times it could be extremely frustrating, ESPECIALLY if you tried to get all the emblems/A-Rank on all of the stage missions. I never did finish the game 100% because of that

dante's inferno - the quicktime events and final boss on the hardest difficulty is damn near broken... I said eff it and went evil insead.

Hmmm, I dunno... probably F-Zero GX? It took all my manpower to unlock Phoenix in that damn game

that game kicked my ass so much. You get so tense cause you are going so fast and having to concentrate the whole time, make one wrong move and BAM!, off course and I'm throwing the controller out of hand and shooting up out of my chair swearing and screaming in a split second.

I've had the game since 2003 and only recently completed all 5 cups on master and unlocked every character.

ah shit, I still havnt gotten all A ranks either and I've had it since release too. I've gotten all A ranks on all the Shadow missions (not sonic's cause of shit slow paced levels like crazy gadget) and I really have no desire to play the treasure hunting levels, so screw it. Maybe one of these days though.

Oh my God, I ****ing hated Crazy Gadget >_<

It's bad enough that the enemies in that stage are a pain, but then there's those ****ing annoying ass gravity sections, especially that colored block section at the end

Only thing good to come out of that stage was Eggman/Robotnik/Baldy McNoseHair talking to Sonic over the intercom (seriously, Eggman was the shit in SA2)

The only treasuring hunting stages I liked were Security Hall and Meteor Herd (the multiplayer version, **** the story mode version with the flying meteors and enemies and shit)
