i'll say this, forget the text-books and stuff like that. if you want to really know about vietnam, this is what you need to see.

watching this and seeing through the perspective of the actual men and women who fought in this, you get much greater grasp on this whole thing. wheather the war was right or wrong, wheather they wanted to be there or not. when you see what these people had to sacrifice, whether they wanted to or not, the emotions that run through me as i'm watching this and my emotions swing from everything from guilt, pity, remorse to anger, hate and sadness. having an uncle who had actually served in Vietnam these emotions i feel are only amplified more.

that's all i really have to say. if there's anyone else here who's been following this feel free to share your thoughts.

Families are still being haunted by this war, those who served in this war like my uncle was their and still talks about it and gets very emotional from time to time

Vietnam in HD is an emotional and intense experience, that shouldn't be missed their's too much to be seen

I know this girl whose dad was sprayed with agent orange. Well, says a lot about the girl. :\

Btw, has this been on History lately? I have not seen it, I have seen all the WWII in HD though.

Right you are, thanks. I work with 2 Vietnamese men I feel honored to be around. One even get a medal from Nixon, I saw the picture. He was with the American troops their their tank got stuck when, a bunch of Viet Cong started to ambush and he got out of the tank and started lobbing grenades left and right at them. He was also spotting outside the tank and got a sniper rifle right through his stomach. Another was a helicopter pilot who put more hours flying then most commercial pilots today. I have only heard these stories from them through another cook who translated them for me. Who actually escaped Vietnam to America through a fake identification of his brother. But after seeing Dieu with Nixon. I was like, damn. Just so much wtf moments, talking to the actual Vietnamese about this war. Not just American soldiers but, citizens and soldiers of Vietnam.

it was bad for everyone, especially the civilians. when we left, we left a South vietnam that everyone pretty much knew didn't stand a chance against the VC and NVA. the SVA got totally slaughtered and any SV civillians that didn't make it out before the NV showed up got treated even worse. it was all ugly but you know, since when has war ever been pretty.

Gonna have to watch this.

My husband is Vietnamese. He lived there at the time, then went to live in Hong Kong when he was 5, which would have been 1976, a year after the war ended.

I'm American so his parents (mom is Chinese, dad is Vietnamese) had an interesting convo in Vietnamese the first time they met me and asked where I was from <.<

That had to be a little awkward.

It was, but they are cool and don't treat me like crap or anything, lol, they are just old school. They always make sure I am fed :)

I still have yet to watch this. Probably gonna find it on the net and have a watch. I told my husband about it and he was telling me about how him and his family had to go to the countryside during the war.

That was probly the safest place to be at the time but that's considering there was nowhere really that truely safe during the war.

This was a great documentary, I'm glad to see history channel getting back to its roots and putting on programs that actually talk about history.
2 other great documentaries on the Vietnam war are PBS' Vietnam: a television history, and National Geographic's Inside the Vietnam war, these both go a little more in depth than Vietnam in HD and actually discuss each individual major battle fought in the war in detail, again, told by the soldiers who actually were there.

America...stolen land of natives and place where thousands of Africans were forced to work and killed for no reason...Attack other nations for oil and talks about human right...Karma does exist and Americans will pay one way or another...

God bless the rest of the world! ...

Wow, ignorance.

Don't group all Americans together and wishing for Americans to 'pay' doesn't make you a good person.

Jade, you know he just be trolling right?

Anyways, in terms of both length and quality, how does this compare to WWII in HD(besides the obvious fact that the actual film used is better)?

i'd say it's just as good if not better WWII in HD.
