What videogames would make awesome movies? God of War is first and foremost on my list.

I'd rather they'd just leave video games alone rather than keep pumping out crap like Street Fighter, House of The Dead, Alone in the Dark, Asteroids and whatever the hell else they want to ruin. If God of War were to be done it'd want to be animated and live up to the standards of Resident Evil Degeneration or Final Fantasy - Advent Children. Lets see how much they screw up Tekken.

I thank that splinter cell would be a good move as long as there is not much green and not super dark even though the game is

No more video game movies, it just ruins the whole game, if you make the game into a sucky movie, like street fighter, and they ruined dragon ball z with that stupid Dragon ball movie.

There has never been a great video game movie. Maybe a video game TV series, or mini-series, but not movie.

Not a movie but not quite thread worthy and ties in. DC and Wildstorm are doing a new God Of War comic series, could be good.

They're doing a God of War movie too. Supposedly the script was leaked and it follows the game exactly until the very last second. *SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS* Instead of becoming a god Kratos jumps off the cliff to his death saying "You're next Hades". *End SPOILERS* So it seems they're pulling a Watchmen and changing only the ending...weird.

Wait a minute... That doesn't seem right.

Spoiler:
Hades dies before he jumps off The Bluffs. So what happens before Kratos saying that couldn't possibly be true to the game.

EDIT: HOOOOLY Crap... I got myself mixed between Hades and Ares.

See, here's the things with new games. What with cutscenes and intensified graphics, is there any NEED to see them made into a movie? Take Force Unleashed, for example. How was it for a game? It was okay, could have done a lot better. Was I, at any point, left pondering anything about the story? No. There were fmv's and actual in-game footage that explained it to me. Do I need to see Ben Afleck playing Galen Marek to bring him to life for me? No, I got a perfectly good view of that in game. The fact of the matter is, the only games that even REMOTELY lend themselves to being made into movies are the old games that weren't so story and graphic heavy (take the old Super Mario movie, for example. Was it the greatest? No, but it wasn't the worst, either)

Personally, I feel that if you TRULY have the desire to make a video game movie, rather than make it a direct translation of what was already in the game, try and make it more of an expansion of the universe, a new storyline, or even a parallel universe. That way, you can have the same characters and maybe even the same origins, but they don't have to flow true to form, as most of us expect them to do.

Is it wrong for me to say I liked Prince of Persia? Yes? Too late, I did.
Starfox? That'd be random. Don't like your chances dude.
I'm glad I checked up on the Tekken movie, the fact it's being made in Japan is heartening. Hollywood would kill it.

A Starfox Movie would be awesome!the plot of Starfox Assualt would make perfection.

the rule:

movies dont make good games and games dont make good movies.

Goldeneye N64. Relatively good movie, and a great game.

Despite the abundance of bad game movies from Uwe Boll and Paul Andereson's RE movies, the fact remains that gamer mentality will always have a proverbial mental block to accept even the handful of good ones for what they are: adaptations of the games. Every time I hear a movie getting panned by a gamer, the sentence "it doesn't follow the game's story" comes up. Well no shit, 99% of games have nonsensical stories often put there to merely complement the gameplay.

The closest game adaptation was the Silent Hill movie, and it was a special case. Some critics didn't like the storytelling, which followed the games well and gamers *****ed that the director took liberties with the story and characterization. The fact that the look and atmosphere was authentic was ignored.

The Silent Hill movie didn't follow the game. THE MOVIE MADE SENSE.

The storytelling was similar, but the actual content wasn't. The original game made sense too if you closely followed what went on, and the third game was actually the continuation of the story.

Frankly, the games (the first 4 anyway) had much better personal stories than the movie ever did but I don't think they would translate well into a movie. The whole cult thing in the movie was really unoriginal and somewhat idiotic.

I never played any of them outside of the first one. I saw an explanation for the story once, and where the story wasn't loose, it was straight corny.

Back on topic, I'd like to see a Dig-Dug movie. They could base it on some Iraqi soldiers whose job was locating IEDs. :p
