Variation Discussion

I am talking for casual players who just like to pick up and play and do something flashy. Sub-Zero being one of the most recognisable characters in MORTAL KOMBAT, should in my opinion have a rather easy to perform xray attack.

Mr. Ed Boon has said in many interviews that they want as many players as possible to be able to do great looking moves easily (as many out of 10 as possible.).

does Unbreakable have more than just parry? Because if it has only 1 different move, i'd rather play Grand Master if i want to play defensive/turtle style. Parry depends too much on read, so there'll be more risk for me. And seems like Grand Master can zone better cuz ice clone can block fireballs now.

If I had my custom character it'd be like this with the following style.

All my styles would involve a knife, a 45 caliber pistol, and hand-to-hand combat.

1. Shocking Whip: It'd be attacks with a cattle prod and a fatality involving the cattle prod being shoved in a victim's mouth while shocking him to death until he burns all over his body.
2. Nasty Impaler: It'd be attacks using a Yari (a spear type of weapon) and would involve have a fatality involving the staff being shoved in the victim's rectum.
3. Chainsaw Freak: It'd be attacks with a chainsaw that would have a fatality that'd involve vertically cutting the victim in half.

We aren't talking about your custom character, Nasty. Please don't derail the thread.

Lol, X-rays aren't hard to perform. A counter X-ray is just as likely to miss as a normal x-ray is likely to be blocked. Throw shit out randomly, no matter how flashy you want to look, and it won't work. Maybe against the CPU on very easy or something, though.

Smh, there's always something to complain about. Ed boon may want this to be accessible, but there has to be a balance and Boon is not an idiot.

Mr. Ed Boon is a very talented person, there is no difference of opinion in that. But it still can't be chained to a combo.

Wuuuut? Nah, Son lol. Making the right read is one of the most satisfying things in fighters. I love the feeling of being inside someone's head while playing. That's just me though.

The Ice clone can block fireballs now? That's sick, but does the projectile destroys the Ice clone after hitting it?

i know, i play 3S too so making the right read is like having sex with porn stars lol. But if that variation has only parry, i'll never use it. imo it doesn't reward me enough.
and yes, ice clone can block fireballs now
get

you can see that her bug hits the ice clone right before she hit SZ.

I feel you, it's more so a personal preference thing, and that's freakin' God-like. I can't wait to play Sub in MKX, just curious, is the parry similar to Batman's in Injustice or do we have time to convert into a full combo?

i just watched ign live vid again, seems like you do full combo after that (thank god), i think it's not too bad, but i still prefer V3 if i want to play defensive style. :P

I can't wait to see some really good rub combos with Sub-Zero. I'd need to look at a video to see the duration, but I wonder if you can freeze them in the air from full-screen and run over to them to combo. Probably not. Maybe half screen. but it will still be awesome to be able to cash in on some decent damage from a half-screen air freeze.

I was thinking about that as I was typing my last post. It sounds amazing, but overpowered. haha

Yeah, it would be really stupid. Other people's fireballs would be pretty much useless against him; because the recovery would be so godlike, the chance of a trade happening would become significantly less. Instead the exchange going completely in Subz's favour and with that run button, he could probably get in for a full combo from full screen.

At least with Kabal's IAGB, you had to hit confirm the nomad dash.

Let's just not go there, haha.

What if, while in the air, his ice ball only did damage? It would change properties from on the ground VS in the air. I don't know, just a thought. I think Sub-Zero is looking pretty good so far though. Probably upper-mid tier. I'm just glad that he isn't a turtle anymore.

I suppose that would be a pretty cool idea. Like instant air ice daggers or something like that. It adds anther layer of depth to his game. He would have to make a conscious decision on whether he should go for the ice ball trade, or go for the spacing/zoning/chip damage.

The thing is, we can't judge what tier he looks to be now because we don't know what other characters play like, and more importantly, we haven't touched the game. For all we know, this Subz is top tier and giving him instant air projectiles would make him broken. Who knows?

And in MK9, Subz wasn't a complete turtle... he had great corner pressure.

MK9 Subz got his Ground Ice nerfed to hell, though, and it made the move completely useless because much like Kano, someone b****ed and then it was gone.
The move was slow as hell, to begin with.
Then when it was taken out, you couldn't even combo into it anymore, unless you use Cyrax in Tag Team, but fvck that noise.

I sure as hell hope that the 3 variations eliminate a lot of that useless b****ing in MK X.
People need to stop whining and start getting better.

Wasn't the ground freeze nerfed because of resets?

There were more pressing issues at the time, but I do remember that being pretty retarded. I remember him doing a lot of damage, too. After the nerf, Sub Zero was still viable.

I didn't complain, or anything... I didn't really care. I'd prefer if they held off on the nerfs, to be honest.

Obviously, there was much more stupid shit going on at the time (which is still going on... Kabal and Cyrax spring to mind here) but Sub's nerf wasn't completely uncalled for at the time and it didn't break him.

Now, he's upper low tier, but shit, I can think of worse characters.

Wha bothers me is that they didn't deal with the smoke, cyrax resets at the time. Still haven't and they never will.
