Tryning to guess who will be the final boss...

An evil and brainwashed Liu Kang is all I want at this point. That will satisfy me.

If it's going to be Shinnok, I will peacefully accept it.

If it's going to be Shang Tsung, I will be upset and tweet Ed 10x times asking 'Why?'.

And if it's going to be Shao Kahn again, I will poop or piss on the disc and never play it again.

They set it up for Shinnok. I can see resurrected Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung making story cameos, since people in MK never stay dead.

please no shao khan i know he is bad ass, but its time for someone else. i think shinnok will be the boss but a god like lui kang would be cool too

you will do no such thing!

Guys, Boon said we're going to be "shocked and surprised" at the Final Boss. To me, that renders Shao Kahn and Shinnok out of the question.

Ed specifically said: "It's going to be a fun surprise returning character. Some people, not a lot of people will see it coming, but there's a lot of surprises in the story."

Going with that, yes, it shouldn't be Shao Kahn and it also shouldn't be Shang Tsung, but I can't rule them out completely.

Shinnok is more probable, but... and this is a very important but... how popular and known is he? Not to us, but the average mainstream casual audience/players. On a scale of 1 to 10. 4? 6? More?

The thing is, it has to be (or should be) a popular character people know. Not us, but people. The character has to be fun (could be anyone) and his return should surprise people.

Would Shinnok as the main boss surprise people or would they see it coming? We all suspect he's in the game, at least as a boss/sub-boss, but that's us - hardcore fans that know their stuff back and forth even at 3am. But what about Joe Average?

This factor alone eliminates many of the potential candidates. Everybody knows Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung by now. Everybody. So I doubt their return would surprise anyone. Plus they've been done to death and this game is supposed to be about the NEW.

So that brings us back to Shinnok, who story-wise makes sense. Heck, I think he's a given. But... is he bad enough?

Same for Quan-Chi. Obviously he's bad as well, but again... bad enough?

Together? Perhaps. Alone? I simply don't think so. Which brings us to Liu Kang.

Why him? Putting aside he's probably the most recognized and known MK character that has been basically in every game, getting also his own game and being the main hero of the movies, his MK9 ending is all one needs to see.

Liu became a god, the new protector of Earthrealm. Raiden is no more. He basically created the Fantastic Four and is who knows where.

And with Raiden out of the way, it will also be Fujin's moment to shine.

The thing is, though, that Liu is pretty angry right now. He's not a happy god. He's a pissed god.

But as Ermac says, he is but one. He needs help.

So who's he gonna call? Shinnok and Quan Chi of course. The evil duo. Or maybe they'll call him.

Either way they make a deal of some sort and decide to help each other and cooperate. Or maybe Quan Chi will totally brainwash Liu to make things easier.

Quan Chi and Shinnok will be sub-bosses and Dark Kang will be the main boss at the very end.

Makes perfect sense to me.

It can't be anyone else than Liu Kang, because no one else will shock the mainstream audience. Everybody thinks all these years that Liu is the good guy. The hero. The chosen one. He's been promoted that way all along. So once everyone finds out he's evil as hell now, they'll flip their $hit, because they won't see it coming. At all.

We (the hardcore fans) will see it coming and that's why Ed at first said "Some people won't see it coming." Some referring to average players who think Liu represents good.

I don't know. I don't think it rules out Shinnok. Shinnok isn't really a well known character, despite being the main villain in MK4.

I just don't see how they're going to remove Shinnok from the equation. MK9 purposely sets him up as an up and coming villain.

You can't just completely go 100% off of Arcade Ladder endings, though.
Ever since MK: Deadly Alliance, Konquest / Story Mode has been the determining factor as to what happens in the next game.

Hell I'd be ÜBER surprised if Raiden WASN'T in MK9.

I know I shouldn't and I'm not. More like 90% and in this particular case it is a (IMHO) valid exception.

I think in MKX both the Arcade Ladder ending(s) and Story Mode ending(s) will be used and built on.

Raiden will be in MKX, with that I agree. However, I'm not entirely sure wheter he will be playable or entirely the same Raiden we are used to.

I see what you mean, but I still don't see Raiden being in MK X and NOT being playable.
I'm betting that if he's in MK X (which is pretty much a give-in), that he's also playable.

Shujinko should be in this equation too.As far as we know, his quest is still going to happen.Possibly Shinnok will be more succesful in his invasion than in the original timeline,so he can send forces to stop Onaga for being ressurected. Then you can build something from here.

While I do think it is likely Raiden will be in MKX and playable, I wouldn't exactly bet on it. Personally, I think Fujin's chances are this time greater than Raiden's. If both make the cut, I hope they manage to make them distinguishable enough and different.

One is a Wind God (Fujin) and the other is a Thunder God (Raiden).
I don't see what 1 has to do with the other, and I really don't see what 1 has to do with the other one being in or not.
In fact, I expect BOTH of them being in, since they are nothing like each other.
I WOULD bet on Raiden being in.
The main plot point of MK9 revolved around Raiden, and since MK X picks up shortly after MK9, Raiden should definitely make the cut.

Araknyd_Commander, you don't see what Fujin and Raiden have to do with each other? Their MK4 endings showed that they were allies in the fight against Shinnok and Quan Chi. After Raiden ascended to elder-godhood, he chose Fujin to become the new protector of Earthrealm. Given that Raiden had to relinquish his elder-god status to participate in the next battle against the oh-so-lame deadly alliance, his prior ascension was canon, so Fujin's new role as earth's protector probably was too.

I'm personally betting on Noob Saibot. That may sound crazy, but I have a theory. Say Scorpion and Sub-Zero do team up and help stop Shinnok and Quan Chi. That could make Shinnok unplayable Sub-boss 1.

Then flash forward 25 years. Earth feels safe. Nobody has tried to merge the realms for years now. It would seem the world is at peace. Then history repeats itself. Noob Saibot along with Havik try and merge the realms once again.

Sub-Zero and Scorpion have retired over the years, but they step out of the shadows in order to stop him.

Raiden gathers the new forces of light for Earthrealm. One of these fighters names is Cassie Cage.

I just hope it's something along these lines. Like the more things change (and we are changing a lot with this game) the more they stay the same.

Taven or Daegon. Daegon is already awake before MK1 happened. This was shown in Armageddon's Konquest mode after defeating Sub Zero. Argus and Delia still expects Armageddon to occur since it's still not prevented in this timeline. It's just not gonna be finished by Shao Kahn. The plot of this game could be about Armageddon. I mean, what else could the 25 year span be for? Taven wakes up just for that moment in the original timeline, it would be the same for the new one as well.

Okay so im thinking everyone is pretty dead set on the big bad being Liu Kang. I see this possibly happening too.

So IF it is indeed, Liu. The next question is, Who is going to be the one to stop him?

Raiden? Will he be the hero that defeats the big bad once again...?
Maybe One of the NEW chars that have not been announced?

Whoever it is, that char is gonna be someone who plays a HUGE part in the story.

And then whats gonna happen to Liu once you defeat him? Will he die...again?(personally im tired of Liu dying because thats getting old...), Will he be saved?(if he's unwittingly evil, which im gonna say could be very possible).

Uh, hopefully Liu Kang comes back super crazy evil and just starts killing shitty characters. Like a total bloodbath. Daegon and Taven should definitely be victims of his. Rampage Liu Kang! Rampage! I will like him a lot more if he kills all the crappy characters.

Kid NOVA wishes this was true. Noob Saibot ftw!
