for some reason whenever i start a game i start getting nervous and panic attacks before the game. Its all of the time its as if i have no confidence in my playing and its something i cant prevent. During these "attacks" my hands and arms start to shake and feel cold which messes my game. This is my first fighting game btw. Will it get better after i get some experience or is this something permanent?

(my hands are still shaking even now lol :( )

Uhhhhmmm, I'm not sure, I've never experienced anything like that, and this is my first real fighting game too. I'm no medical professional, but it sounds like something that you should at least talk to someone about. Shakes can be normal, but that getting cold thing is really weird. (and possibly worrisome)

Odd, when I get these "attacks" you speak of, I usually start playing pretty much perfectly.

That was in Gears of War, though, haven't had it happen since I started playing MK.

yea you'll be good once you play enough. i used to get nervous b4 a Starcraft 2 match initially until i played enough. i found the fact that you were 1 v. 1 made it more pressing, even if the other player didn't have a mic. i was never anxious in COD even though there was constant communication and shit talking but i just felt like 1 of many so it never bothered me.

All I can say is the more you do it, the more natural it gets

Hmmm sounds like you may have some kinda condition there I'm no professional but I'd suggest getting that checked

Awww! Fear not, it's not that bad. Just a bit of pre-game anxiety you got going there. Have a shot, it'll calm you down (j/k). It's gonna go away with time. Try playing in rooms named BEGINNER and play against people will bad W/L ratios. Do you have anxiety/panic in any other areas of your life? If so, you may have a generalized anxiety issue, and many people have that.

i think your just having panic attacks which are never fun, i hope with experience you are able to overcome these(i have them too but lucky not too often)

As you gain experience the anxiety should go away. In the meantime, take deep breaths and remember to have fun while playing as it's just a game.

I think it is normal nervousness getting ready to play and your excited. Same type of thing happens to most players when they have very little life left, and they go bananas trying to win and stay away at the same time. Maybe without all of the extra symptoms your are experiencing but they should go away with some more practice and experience playing against other people.

Try playing in rooms named BEGINNER

I have found that these rooms are for beginners, like me, to go and get slaughtered. Seems like people with 85% win percentages go there to pad their stats. When I go into just any MK named room I do much better regardless of the persons W/L record.

my tip: don't go all hectic and just stay calm. combos dont need lightning reflexes and thats what beginners tend to think and make them fail. as everyone stated before. it should come natural. try going in to practice mode. nothing to worry about there ^^

your adrenaline is pumpin before a match so you feel that way. It will go away. If it doesnt and those symptoms happen at other random times, get it checked out it could be anxiety you are having. Believe me, anxiety manifests itself in physical ways you cannot imagine.

Dont worry your not the only one that has experienced this, I used to get panic and anxiety before and during every match I played online, this was back when I played Tekken 5. I had a real problem with anxiety and panic attacks. Sometimes I would have to quit the game because it was to much for me to handle. The symptoms I used to experience during an online match was, racing heart, disorientation, shaky hand, trembling arms, pins and needles in my fingertips and feet, extreme dizzyness, wavy and foggy vision. The major part that will start these feeling is your rush of adrenaline. Once your subconcious mind realizes that you are perfectly safe the symptoms will disappear.

This is all part of the Flight or Fight response of the human body. Ironically the Flight or Fight response is to help us, not hurt us, it is mainly for survival purposes as if you were getting chased by a lion, or something serious. You just need to play over and over and it will fade over time. The more you play online in these intense matches the more your symptoms will fade away. You need to become desensitized to it. Sometime I would get it so bad my anxiety would linger on after the match was over. Just take it one day at a time, trust me it will fade away. All these symptoms your experiencing cannot and will not hurt you in anyway.

You dont need a doctor. You dont need hypnosis. The only thing you need to do is to keep approaching your fear (playing online) and teach your mind through trial and error that its nothing to worry about. Your subconcious mind will adapt and your anxiety will fade away forever.

I've been playing Mortal Kombat ever since the original in the Arcades. And STILL TO THIS DAY, I experience the same stuff you are feeling! It comes and goes though. My suggestion, is to smoke a joint and have 2 beers before your first fight. Get you all loosened up for the battle

;)

Yeah that always works for me, just the beer part though, smoking makes my anxiety worse.
