While everyone wants to win, few people actually go out of their way to compete with the best players. That includes understanding the game's mechanics, their chosen character, and the opposition. Those that really want the edge are going to use the best tools available, to maximize their rewards and minimize risks. Most people are comfortable staying the way they are, and in some cases, don't take responsibility for their losses.

Even so, the older games like Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon weren't "tournament fighters," per se.
They were straigt-to-console ports.

NRS is trying to get MK back into the Tournament scene like in the glory days (as it did very well with MK9), and if they are planning to do the same with MK10, then the MK10 fighting game mechanics will largely be based on how it will best fit into the tournament scene.
The best players dictate A LOT of what goes on in fighting game mechanics.
Some of them even Beta test those games and give their input as to what needs to be tweaked.

Perhaps that what your gaming experience has led you to believe, but not mine...

If you're not using the best tools which could be a weapon, then how badly you want to win will be questioned.

Obviously if you completely avoid grabbing weapons even if holding the weapon turns out to be more advantageous. You can still "Play and try to win."

But when Araknyd speaks of play to win.

He means using every arsenal in your tool set at the optimal time you should use it. Even if its things you don't like about the game.

I don't like Stage hazards personally, but I will use them, and adapt to them if the situation calls for it to increase my odds of winning.

If you limit yourself, how badly you want to win is questioned and people often think you aren't "really" playing to win.

araknyd argues for the sense that if we are about to have a RACE on foot. The people who take it seriously and REALLY REALLY want to win, will buy the best shoes, train, map out the best way to conserve energy, and when to expel it. Ect ect.

IF you show up, and you choose to race on all 4's. While you may be moving as fast as you can... you're still VERY VERY likely to come in last place.

No restriction was placed on you. So people would naturally question if you "really..." wanted to win.

That's what I hate about competitive video gaming in general, I'm one of those players who have too much pride, or stubbornness depending on what perspective you're viewing from to do certain things, yet want to play to win. However, your opponent thinks you're not willing to do whatever to win.

The greatest example I have is in FIFA (I don't play MK competitively), I think the two man press is the cheapest defensive tactic alive, but it's essential to use sometimes to win games. I however refuse to use it and I see people who love to use it as soft players. Same can be said of Death Traps and Weapons/MKDA Impaling.

But to each his own I guess, as pointed out by you by using all methods available to win.

If it's as cheap as you say it should be banned. Otherwise everything is
Fair game. If the race I mentioned allows tripping i would get knee pads and
Get ready to trip people myself.

If you find tripping lame, you shouldn't play in this race then. Because people will do what they gotta do to win. Don't like it, then you need to push for a ban on tripping.

If steroids were legal to use for olympics I wouldn't judge, but since their against the rules. I'm against people using
It anyways and trying to get away with it. That's true cheating.

If a certain move/tactic was truly overpowering to the point that nothing can be done about it, it would either be banned in competition (which doesn't happen often) or people would simply stop playing the game altogether. Pretenses of honor is usually an excuse to hide behind one's own weakness, the refusal to go outside one's comfort zone. Finding a solution to work around the problem is far more productive than restricting oneself with artificial rules that do nothing to change what's in the framework of the game. I mean, I heard people call throws, projectiles, and even low attacks "cheap"...where the hell does it end?

The only MK game that had an enduring tourney scene (if any) outside MK9 is UMK3. The MK team should have listened to tourney player feedback sooner, but it's better late than never. Otherwise, I agree with what you said.

Okay I this this has gone way off topic but w/e.

People think easy to use = high tier but that has not been the case in any fighting game.

What people saw as high
Spoiler:
Kung Lao

What really was high tier
Spoiler:
Kabal

Easy to use characters are usually the main ones winning out of the gate but once the others get weeded out the ones on top are usually the ones who took the longest to explore. With that said "weapons" are just another tool in the game, example: if you pick Kabal and I pick Mileena and we just stand there its 0-0 - now if we set the computer to go at eachother its 5-5 no matter what because if kabal does iagb mileena will duck to avoid it and they would counter everytime because the machine is reading the other machine so no reaction is required. Tier list is said to be the match up of two players with the same skill level in a FT10 - simply put it measures how well a player uses the tools vs how well another would react to those said tools. People who "win" Tournaments are there because they learned how to react to those bad MUs and are comfortable enough with their character to be part of that 3 in 3-7 OP favor.

Not trying to bust your balls but who is this directed at? I don't remember anyone claiming easy = high tier lol

Oh this isn't tym lol. Seriously tho, remember the injustice debate about using interactables... I fear weapons will have the same fate... Too strong, broken, nerf, ban.... -_-

It all depends on balance and whether or not people think
The developers can pull it off.

Some stages for some matchups interactables were a
Bit OP, some touch ups could fix it. I don't trust them to
Balance essentially 2 fighting styles per character. That's
Essentially havin to balance twice as many match ups.

No thanks, I would rather the weapons be used as a special move, or in a combo as what Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 had.

My only wish is that if Fujin returns soon, he has his crossbow. That was by far the single greatest weapon I've seen in this series.

If MK10 will have the gameplay of MK9 (no extra weapons and stances), I hope Li Mei returns with a Chinese sword similar to Xianghua's from Soul Calibur as part of her moveset, Sareena with her Kamas and/or some kind of blade/sword in her moveset, and Tanya returns with her Kobu Jutsu Tonfa Blades, as part of her moveset.

I hope Sareena is nowhere near MK10.

That bich is infamous for the manliest face in all of MK

No actually, Sheeva and Tanya (since MKD) are.

There's a strong chance that Sareena will be in MK10 though.

1. She serves Quan Chi.
2. She was in the background of MK9's Pit Stage.
3. Boon might want to develop her even further.
4. She has a fair amount of fans (including me).
