Quan Chi was brutally murdered.
They were freed, completely conscious of what they were doing, but everyone who died decided to stay evil.
Stryker, Sindel, Liu Kang, Kabal, Smoke, Kung Lao, Kitana, Everyone decided to stay evil revenants. Not much of a choice seeing as they were dead, and the only person who could revive them was murdered as well.

Well quan chi and shinnok were defeated. So i dont think they were under control . i think eventually they had to start thinking on their own
 
I think NRS' goal of keeping them undead was to be able to keep them in for as many games as they want.

I need to watch this for myself. So after they were freed, you're saying that they didn't have much of a choice since they were still dead? How did they die yet again?

Huh?
They were never revived after MK9.
The alive costumes for Kitana, Kung Lao, and Liu Kang aren't canon. They have always been dead, never revived.

Alright, so let me explain.

EVERYONE died in MK9.
The only people who were REVIVED in MKX were Jax and Sub-Zero.

Liu Kang, Kitana, and Kung Lao have stayed dead and zombies through the ENTIRE story of MKX.

NRS only gave Liu Kang, Kitana, and Kung Lao human, alive primaries are for sales and for the casual fans.
In reality, they all stayed dead, there is no such thing as living Kang, Lao, or Kitana.
The primary costumes are human and living for what-if scenarios in intro dialogue.
Do you understand?

I remember seeing a screenshot of the social media page somewhere. It had a friend-list with Dan Forden and a bunch of MK characters. It had more stuff, like messages, I just don't remember it all.

I get that part. The part I don't get is where you said they decided to stay evil, and the only one who could revive them was dead.

The only person who was able to revive anyone in revenant form is Quan Chi.
Quan Chi was brutally murdered.
No chance at revival.
Liu Kang got his conscious back, along with all revenants regaining free will, but they all can't return to human form, so they all stay as revenant form in the netherrealm under Liu Kang and Kitana's rule.

Sorry, 2 seconds too late on cassie.
And there's no footage, but I witnessed it firsthand on the stream.
It's brutal as hell, definitely something I wouldn't expect johnny to have.
He pushes them to the ground and continuously smashes their face into the floor, slowly, then faster, then faster,
eventually he's smashing them into the floor at almost sonic speed until he finally stops.
I think you know what they look like after that.

Well, yes, and no.
Yes in the factor that they still want to be evil. They still are in favor of killing innocents and doing evil.
No in the factor that they are under someones control. They all have free will now, just tainted souls.
