[SPOILER] Everything about story mode. Pics, videos, discussion, etc.

Well it'll need to be addressed eventually and hopefully we'll get a hella rad boss out of it. And this is off-topic but Shao Kahn-mac, for some reason sounds like a Mcdonalds deal to me XD

LOL.
Ermao Kahn, whatever works.
They'd just turn ermac into a distorted freak like they did for Blaze and Shinnok.
Not looking forward to it.

But the story opens up a whole new direction now if they take it. They can focus on other realms, Kitana and Liu vs XXXX, Earthrealm on Offense, or they can waste it and go with a revamped Onaga story and follow same path that lead

That's what I expected too, and we got that with Cassie's team (even though they over-did it, IMO), but Kotal and his group were wasted. Absolutely zero development for Erron, Ferra and Torr, and very little for Kotal (most of it bad). If it wasn't for the comics, I'd think Kotal was a complete idiot.

Yeah, I agree. They definitely put more effort into building up the new descendant chars than they did with Kotal's crew. I assume that's because NRS want's to go with Cassie's team as the future "big draw" of the series.

Okay, I'm really sorry but Ermao Kahn makes me think of the two merged with Mao Zedong XD

But on a serious note, I really hope NRS' concept of what a boss looks like evolves. This big, weird, monster thing isn't very interesting.
For me personally, the way a boss looks doesn't need to be confined to big and monster-y.

It was dumb writing and incredibly stupid, but what she did is infinitely more memorable than anything Shinnok did, which is my point. I feel like they could have turned Shinnok into someone as iconic as Shao Kahn if they played him up right. Make him the brains to Shao Kahn's brawn. But he really didn't do anything besides show up and get merc'd - twice.

Hardcore fans will appreciate some of the nuances of Shinnok's revamp in MKX, but no casual will remember him two games from now. I think that's what you're getting at, and it's an unfortunate reality. He should have probably killed Raiden, and the climax shouldn't have been Cassie taking him down alone - that flies completely in the face of her needing to be any kind of leader. She should have made Kotal see the truth, and her team and Kotal's should have taken Shinnok down together.

You're not wrong. Shinnok was enjoyable to watch. But that's because NRS has improved on its presentation, voice acting, animations. I'm not going to compare that to the presentation for old MK villains because that feels unfair.

But you're taking for granted the fact that MK characters are universally being written to be more dramatic and more entertaining than ever before, and I don't know that that's fair either. Not every franchise can boast that "it simply keeps getting better."

Plenty of sequels are actually less dramatic and less entertaining than the originals in very basic ways, including dialogue. In film, think Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Terminator, Alien, Pirates of the Caribbean - each series got dumber and sillier as it went on. In games, look at StarCraft, which had more gravitas and less cheesy dialogue in 1997 than it does now in 2015.

No, that's just as bad. I didn't say that this inconsistent plot armor thing is exclusive to MK9+. It's always been annoying. It has nothing to do with what I prefer about the old storytelling.

OK, so then for my own curiosity's sake, what would you like MK11 to look like? And I mean realistically. If you say "basically Mass Effect"... ;)

I shouldn't be completely negative, but it was a rant. :) I do liked a lot of aspects of the story, but the writing is the most important to me, and that's what disappoints on so many levels, so I can't help but feel salty.

That's fair enough, rants can be good for the soul. :)

I was actually worried they'd bring Havik in and turn him into some gross demonic fat monster.
Luckily they only did that for Shinnok.
One day, I hope for an MK4 type final boss. A normal character who is just swift and powerful.
I thought they might do that for MKX, but Nah, they decided to make Shinnok a knockoff Dark Kahn.
One can only dream.

There's absolutely a MK11, eventually. Even though I love them, I don't feel Ferra/Torr are returning.

Same.
I seriously feel like they're gonna be left behind.

Why not? I mean, I don't think they'll create them and just get rid of them next game.

You're right, NRS would never do that.

I don't think that Ferra/Torr will ever return unless we get some Armageddon type game, honestly.
Would I like them to? Absolutely. Very great concept.
Do I think they will? Absolutely not. Unfortunately.

Considering it's pretty damn obvious you don't really like Nightwolf, let's get something straight here. It was clear, by story mode standarts, that Nightwolf was most definitely not a "random shmuck", he was the second in command after Raiden. He defeated Quan Chi, killed Noob Saibot (apparently) and saved Earthrealm souls all by himself. It was also in his command that Lin Kuei failed. When Sindel approached the heroes, it was pretty much stated for us viewers he was clearly the only one capable of defeating her there. This was not a "random" twist in the story at all. If you don't like a character and think they're "shmuck" fine, but LOL saying Nightwolf biggest contribution was being defeated by Scorpion (licking his balls already?) proves exactly that your point is flawed and it's mostly subjective of course. You are ignoring what you don't care because he's a character that you don't like no matter how important those scenes were for the flow of the story.

At least have the decency of weighting all facts that the story mode presented.

That being said, Sindel's scene was indeed over the top and she could have very well only killed Kitana.

I just didn't buy it, simple as that. If Nightwolf was such a big deal, then where was that during the MK1 part of the tournament? Why did Raiden never ask for his advice or help? Why did no one ever talk to him?

I didn't mean to imply that he's a weak character, per se. He's clearly meant to be strong. I just don't buy him as a strong character, he doesn't carry himself like one outside of his chapter and it says a lot about Sindel as a villain that she gets taken out by someone who only acts tough during his 5 minutes of fame.

Yeah the idea of a boss that's relatively smaller and faster and can actually fight sounds so much better than "I'm so big I'll kick you a couple of times till you die". Tbh, a smaller, faster boss sounds more terrifying.

(I just imagined Ferra as a boss: "We no need Torr. We big boss now!")

Ferra/Torr are returning alright?! Ed said they're his favorite out of the newcomers...

I mean, he's lied before...

But they're still going to return!

Same.

What? Are you seriously comparing Ferra/Torr to these? I don't even know them wow. Those characters were created in the 3D era. It's not the same thing. MK is now rebooted and why should they abandon Ferra/Torr if they're so awesome?! They just need some story progression and they're ready.

I think they just want to differ the big bad from the previous tower lackeys, but that's pretty obvious.
I'm just saying, for MKX, the first round against Shinnok is the closest you can get to having a normal sized boss.

In all honesty I don't see it, but I also thought they might leave Kang out, and I was wrong there.
We'll see.
If she does come back, I expect a new brute.

Does anyone know who has the game if all fatalities and brutalities are unlocked in the moves list from the start or do you have to find them?

Huh?
So if a character was created and then abandoned in the next game, it's not the same as being created and abandoned in the next gen consoles..?
I'm confused.

They just need some story progression and they're ready.

So did a ton of the other characters in MKDA that were abandoned in MKD.
